HI, just looking for some advice....

Looking at the Splendor 8 day Eastern from NYC on June 17, 2015 and notice its in San Juan from 3-11pm. This seems a little late to do anything other than shop or dinner, certainly no beach time. Are there others out there that feel the same? We stayed in San Juan for 2 days pre-Valor in 2013 and saw much of the city and Bacardi. Anyone have any suggestions? Wondering if Carnivals excursions (ATV tour, etc) will start this late? Thanks in advance.

San Juan at night tends to be a bit more of a party stop, in my experience. There were ship excursions, but I don't remember if they included anything beachy or active (most people I spoke to that chose excursions did city tours). For that stop we got off the ship, had a nice, leisurely dinner, a few drinks, wandered around in the shops, and were back at the ship by 9:30 or 10. There were quite a few people getting back to the ship that had been drinking A LOT and the party continued into the night once they were on the ship too.

We were there in 2008 from 3pm to 11pm. We did a night kayak tour of the bio bay. It was incredible - one of the coolest things I've done. We used kayakpuertorico.com and highly recommend them. Check out the moon phase for the night you are there. It is best when there is a new moon.

We have taken 10 day long vacations in Puerto Rico, and we still didn't have enough time to do everything there's to do.

With that said, one of our most memorable ports of call was exactly when we did San Juan from 4pm to 12am on the Liberty a few years back. We started by strolling down Paseo La Princesa and along the outside of the walls of Old San Juan. We then crossed into the city through La Puerta de San Juan and did a bit of shopping along Calle del Cristo and other streets (several stores stay open late when ships are in town). We then walked up to the historic hotel El Convento, where we sat down for some drinks and light tapas. After that, we worked our way to the SoFo area (South Fortaleza street), where several of the best restaurants in San Juan are located, including Dragonfly, Aguaviva, and Parrot Club. We did have dinner at the Parrot Club, which offers nuevo latino cuisine (Puertorican cuisine but with a twist. Wonderful food, lively atmosphere, and great music). After that, we headed to the Sheraton Old San Juan where a live local band was playing near the casino. We then headed back to the ship shortly before departure.

Considering the limited amount of time we had, it was a wonderful visit! Too bad that a lot of people don't make it past Senor Frog's because they consider this stop "a waste of time". :(

We were in SJ last year 3-11 and did a guided walking tour of OSJ and the forts. Really informative, but a little too long. Was definitely dark by the end of the tour. Lots of bars and restaurants were crowded and the night life seemed to be in full swing.

What time did you get back? I really want to do this. We are in San Juan from 1:00 to 10:00. A different company I emailed said there is not enough time. I certainly dint want to miss the ship. I've emailed the company you used to see what they say.

This has been a few years ago, but we were in San Juan, and were fortunate enough for a crew member to take us around. We probably"walked" for about 6 hours, getting back around 9:00PM. What a "sight" to see. We took our time, and as someone on here mentioned, going up/down hills, etc. you definately get your exercise, but it was very enjoyable. Coming back, and see the ship all lit up, was pretty too.

We have never been on the Splendor, but are really thinking of doing it within the next couple of months, so if anyone on here, wants to let me know anything about this ship, pro/con, please let me know.

My first visit to San Juan was ten years ago on the Triumph and was supposed to arrive at 5pm and stay till midnight. I was already pretty bummed by this, as I was cruising solo and did not want to roam around on my own that late. Ship ended up getting in late around 7pm, and it was dark by the time I got off the ship. I did walk around a bit and stuck with groups of other cruisers, but just was too nervous to go it alone and turned around and headed back to the ship feeling quite disappointed.

Fast forward to last November, Freedom got in at 0900 and had the full day to wander and see in the daylight. I just fell in love with the place and am now planning to take the cruise that goes out of San Juan some time in 2016 as a retirement gift to myself. I will fly down there a few days before to have time to see more of Puerto Rico. It is now my favorite Caribbean destination.

With such a short time in port as you have, I would just pick a restaurant that is not too far, you can walk or take a taxi there and back. Just pick a nice one that is special for you. (NOT Senor Frogs)!!! Have a nice meal of local food and drink, and enjoy the time as best you can.

I never understand why some ships stop there for such a late arrival and short time. Beautiful and interesting place.

For me that is not enough time. I need more time in Puerto Rico so I can go up the mountains and get lost. That is why I have not done this cruise. I would love to take a cruise to Puerto Rico.

We have been through PR many times. We left on a cruise from there and went in four days ahead of time.. We had a great time. A land tour there is really teriffic. You might try that sometime.

There is a segway tour that we did that was really great! You can walk to the pier from the ship and the segway was easy to ride and so much fun. My husband and daughter and I did the tour, and i already reserved it again in April with friends. I believe he has a two hour tour at 4pm. Google segway Puerto Rico and you can email Jose re reservations! Have fun!
