Tracy Arm

We are cruising the inside passage with HAL at the end of June and Tracy Arm Fjord is on the itinery. We would like to take a smaller ship to view the scenery\wildlife. Is it better to book direct with the ship or are there alternatives?

Do ships stop at Tracy Arm? Or is it just a "cruising Tracy Arm" day?

If the latter, then you see what you can see from your ship. If the former, then the Alaska board is your best resource

No ships "stop" at Tracy Arm. There is no port. It is always scenic sailing.

There are small tour boats which get up very close to the glaciers. We saw them when we sailed Tracy Arm on Oosterdam. Everyone who takes that tour raves about it.

AFAIK, all of those small-boat adventures begin and/or end alongside the cruise ship, so I'd think every one of those tour operators would want to keep the ship's business and therefore only offer direct with the ship.

I did the Tracy Arm excursion with Adventure Bound round trip from Juneau. It's a 10 hour excursion, so many of the ships are not in port long enough to do this excursion. It is an absolutely fabulous excursion. The photos from this excursion are my screen savers.

A couple of HAL ships do have excursions from the ship on smaller boats that do get close to Tracy Arm. These can only be booked from the ship. The small boat meets the ship. On this run, the ship does not get close to Tracy Arm but continues on to Juneau. The small boat ends it tour in Juneau.
