Conservative attire in Malta?

We have an excursion booked in Malta and conservative attire is recommended for visiting places of religious importance.

We think that it's very important to be respectfull, what shall we wear?

Is it okay with tanktop and a short-sleeved shirt?

Can we wear shorts if they goes below the knees?

Is sandals ok if we bring socks we can put on when needed?

No off-shoulder, no plunging necklines, no transparent wear.

I wore a skirt that was below my knees and had a scarf/shawl for my shoulders. My husband wore shorts that were below his knees ..

Just cover your shoulders, Sandals are fine without socks.

Be sure to dress appropriately if you enter. That means women should cover shoulders if you’re wearing a ‘strappy top’ and not wear short skirts or shorts. For the men it’s the same story. No vest tops, and if you must wear shorts, make sure they come to or past the knee. No-one wants to see you walking around in budgie smugglers – and that’s a general life lesson not just for church visits!

Capris are also appropriate.

Two years ago we spent ten days in Malta. Wore shorts (above the knee), sandals, and a collared shirt every day. No issue whatsoever.

Except you would not get in the co-cathedral in Valletta, or the Cathedral in Mdina, at both of these locations have seen people turned away for being so dressed.

What kind of attire is needed there? Do you know?

Cover knees and shoulders. A tshirt and Capris would be fine.
