What Clothes to take to NOLA for 3 days prior to cruise

We will be sailing with Royal Caribbean Serenade of the Seas on February 21, 2015 out of NOLA. We will be arriving in New Orleans on the 18th. So I have no idea what type of clothes to take for the days in NOLA. I am sure we will have to take rain gear, but what about coats, etc. Also, since it apparently rains so much there, would gym shoes be ok for walking around?

It's too early to tell what the weather will be like at that time. It could be 80 degrees or 30 degrees, sunny or rainy.

If you check the forecast on weather.com for New Orleans before you leave on the 17th, they will have a pretty accurate temperature forecast and if they say 0 or 10% chance of rain for those days you can be pretty sure that it won't rain.

Agreed. No one can tell you the weather this far out. Just check a few days before and go ahead with your packing. I would suggest layers as opposed to heavy outerwear. Yes, gym shoes will be fine and take a few pairs of socks.

Thanks for the info. Yes, I will for sure check on the weather forecast. I thought in case I have to take a heavier jacket, I would have to order like a heavy fleece or something from LL Bean now.

We're having a pretty mild winter this year down here in the South. If I had to guess I would say it will be between 40-60 degrees in New Orleans that time of year and you won't need a heavy jacket. I get to wear my Chicago coat about 2-3 days out of every couple of years otherwise it is far too hot. Being from Michigan you can probably get by with your late Spring gear. :)

That is not to say that some freak storm cannot come up and it be 6 degrees but you can always layer in that case. (and will probably know before you come down)

I am confused, the original poster is from Michigan, wouldn't you have an abundance of cold weather gear in every shape and form being from such a colder climate. Also what southerners consider "cold" is downright balmy to someone from the Midwest. As others have stated, pack layers so you can add or subtract as needed.

I would plan for chilly weather, and for rain. February 18 is Ash Wednesday (Mardi Gras would be the day before), and in the 36 years I lived in New Orleans, it rained more times on Ash Wednesday than it did not. My mother always said it was "God washing away the sins of Mardi Gras."

Many locals take off the whole week, so businesses might be more crowded and service slower than usual. The city might still be cleaning up from Mardi Gras on Ash Wednesday; I know the stands along St. Charles Avenue will take several weeks to come down. And the restaurants will be introducing their Lenten menus, highlighting seafood and other vegetarian dishes.
