NorEaster Posted April 12, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 12, 2004 On the Serinade last week on the sea day (Friday) the pool police were going around clearing chairs. If your stuff was taken you would have to go the Guest Relations to get it back. The only problem was that you could go to the bathroom come back and your stuff was gone. You should have seen how some people reacted. They had all kinds of managment calming people down.
Sophie Posted April 12, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 12, 2004 Well, it's about time! As for going to the bathroom, my DH and I take turns so we can watch each other's stuff. But if we both leave our chairs, we don't expect to return to emty chairs waiting for us! Sophie
BigDave Posted April 12, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 12, 2004 Hooray! Sorry for the few folks that were in the restroom. Good policing would require they actually post someone to watch chair usage, and they might not have had someone free for that. Perhaps they did watch carefully and the folks did more than go to the restroom but won't admit it. It's routine to see folks use towels and a random item (usually a book or magazine) and see a whole block reserved that way, with nobody showing up for several hours. I frankly wouldn't have a problem moving them if nobody has came back in 15 minutes, my wife however is not that willing to risk confrontation with someone that willing to be rude. As usual, the few rude folks make things difficult for the rest. justcruzin85374 Posted April 12, 2004 #9 Share Posted April 12, 2004 On the Brilliance last week, they had the deck patrol out, but not so much in the Solarium. One chair hog in there had her sun and her shade chair everyday and sometimes another one at the outdoor pool all at the same time! What a hog! No one said anything to her. The deck patrol did a fantastic job at keeping the kids out of the solarium pool with or without parents! I hated the new towel policy. We were given 2 towels in our cabin with a letter saying if not returned we would be charged $25.00. You could exchange them for dry ones, but still only one per person. Not good!!! There were about 6 cushions missing from the solarium chairs. People changed chairs, cushions like you were playing checkers....you had to be there early on sea days. I just woner if any of these policies were all new ones or just enforced during spring break times??????? Soveriegn 92 E. Caribbean Majesty 95 W. Caribbean Granduer 97 E. F5Loar Posted April 12, 2004 #11 Share Posted April 12, 2004 Your sign in the chair while away sounds like a great idea but keep in mind the majority of the guys that take your stuff up can't speak English let alone read it! I've noticed a direct relation between chair hogs with the line busters and Formal night dress code busters. They seem to be one and the same. academicdeluge Posted April 12, 2004 #12 Share Posted April 12, 2004 I sure hope RCCL sticks this out and doesn't decide that the confrontations with the chair hogs are too much to deal with. The problem is that the people with manners don't make a fuss. They're easier to deal with than chair hogs who obviously don't care about other people to begin with. madforcruising Posted April 12, 2004 #14 Share Posted April 12, 2004 Good idea to do something against the chair hogs, but 10 minutes is a darn short time. I might be in the pool sometimes for half an hour and I don´t feel like a chair hog when leaving the chair occupied with my towel and stuff for the half hour in the pool or hot tub (Where else should I leave my stuff during this time ) Well saying this I´m thinking also about how often I use a deck chair. As I´m not really a pool and sun type person it´s maybe once during a cruise. So go ahead it doesn´t bother me too much. NorEaster Posted April 12, 2004 Author #15 Share Posted April 12, 2004 Your thoughts about placing a sign make me LOL. When I had to leave my chair I did speak to the pool attendent and told him I would be back in 15 min and not to remove my stuff. As for the comments about the beach towels we just asked our room stewart who then came back with 6 towels and keep changing them for clean ones every day. flamingosun Posted April 12, 2004 #16 Share Posted April 12, 2004 On the Radiance last week, towels were routinely picked up by a crew member from empty deck chairs.. wonder if those people had to pay the towel fine??? My DH, who is not a water person, is always there in the next chair when I take a dip... usually only for a few minutes. I must remember to thank him. cruisingirls Posted April 12, 2004 #17 Share Posted April 12, 2004 Ok...so I am a newbie, and will be taking my first cruise on May 9th. All this chair hogging talk has me a bit concerned! Is it really so difficult to get a chair by the pool-or is it just prime locations that are the problem? Also-just my two cents-but if this is such a problem, why doesn't RCCL start a sign out program for a pool chair on a daily basis? The resort that we stayed at in Aruba did this with their beach chairs/umbrellas and seemed to work very well. It was on a first come first serve basis. When you were finished with your chair for the day you brought the reservation card back and picked up your sign out card (that you keep for your stay and use each day that you want to sign out a chair). Straughn Posted April 12, 2004 #18 Share Posted April 12, 2004 We just returned from Radiance and I did notice that one of the pool attendents was being very diligent about removing towels from chairs. I don't know if he removed personal items, but he was going around on a semi-regular bais removing towels that had been left on chairs. I didn't see any repercussions from unhappy passengers, but it must have been a real shock for the folks who neatly tucked towels into several chairs in a row and then disappeared for an hour. I think it is pretty clear to the pool attendents when chairs are being "saved" compared to chairs whose occupants have disappeared for a short period of time. I don't think they are fooled by one sandal on a chair and its mate on the next chair!
john&kelly Posted April 12, 2004 #19 Share Posted April 12, 2004 I always carry a sock filled with ball bearings. Follow someone into the pool, discreetly let them have it over the melon, and when they go down, you've got their chair. brn2crz Posted April 12, 2004 #23 Share Posted April 12, 2004 RCI did have a checkout policey,at the pool.. They just changed it... I tell you one thing.. I hate hoggers as much as the next person... But if someone takes my towell while I am in the pool, its gonna get ugly..Especially if they try to charge for it. I think I am just gonna go against all I believe in,and start taking my own. Last cruise,I saw people who had misplaced theirs, take one off someone elses chair, and turn it in..(back when they had the check-in policey).not worth the hassle. justcruzin85374 Posted April 12, 2004 #25 Share Posted April 12, 2004 One other thing I noticed in the solarium was that couples with chairs together would leave and go to lunch, come back with no problem. I didn't use the outdoor pool so I can't say what went on there except the one woman who was a 3 chair hog....2 in the solarium and one outdoor. Then there was the oxnoxious woman who came up behind me and threw her towel over my shoulder on the empty chair and stated "this chair is taken!" I saw about 4 mouths drop to the floor on her behavior. People avoided her the remainder of the cruise. Soveriegn 92 E. Caribbean Majesty 95 W. Caribbean Granduer 97 E.
