Docking in Sydney, Cape Breton

A cousin out in Neil's Harbour had mentioned to us that the cruise ships are now docking on the west side of the harbour in Sydney. Can anyone confirm this as the Port of Sydney website does not really give any information about that.

We docked in Sydney on the 31st May this year on a small, british based cruise ship (less than 30,000 ton). I do not have a map to hand but walking a very short distance uphill we came to a road running parallel to the coast and the Jost House was just by there. To get into the centre of town we needed to walk to the right for about 15 minutes.

There was a proper cruise terminal at the port with a big model of a fiddle, which I think is mentioned on the cruise critic port guide for Sydney.

We also docked at the cruise terminal in Sydney, in May, on the Maasdam.

Maybe the ships docking on the west side were one-offs? Just a guess on my part.

I'd suggest that your cousin is mistaken. There's no facility on the west side, and the only dock possibly large enough on that side would be totally unsuitable.

Just looked at Google Earth and I am wondering if your cousin is thinking of North Sydney which is to the west and north of Sydney proper. It is a different town, but smaller and is not far from Sydney. Look at Google Earth and you will see what I mean.

I have relatives in Newfoundland and that is where the ferry boats on the Newfoundland/mainland route dock.

Yes, North Sydney is for the ferries, but the Sydney cruise ship dock is right in town by the big fiddle. It is a great location.

We'll go with the ship docking at the port of Sydney. Maybe it was a one off thing as someone has suggested, maybe she had too much Screech that morning with her coffee. :D
