Yes, it is US dollars.

As you are Australian, check out the buying of OBC through Princess Australia (you will need ring them and ask for the prices for OBC).

I am going on Emerald Princess in June (med cruise) and have bought some OBC at a very good price! Maybe for your cruise this year, you may also be lucky and still be able to buy $500 USD 'gift' OBC's for yourself at a cost of $550 AUD. This is an effective rate of 0.91 USD to the AUD ( way better than the banks @ 0.74 ). And big plus, this is classed as a 'purchase' on the credit card. It is not a cash advance, and because the price charged is in $AUD, no transaction currency conversion fees on the CC. Of course, you can buy multiple gifts if need be. Any amount of this purchased OBC left over at end of cruise is returned as cash ($USD) at services desk, or can be credited back to your CC.

And also check out pre-paying the gratuities ( this is for us Australians only too). The prepaying of gratuities amount is also in $AUD. My cruise (in June) has the pre-payed gratuities amount showing in $AUD. Looks like Princess used that favourable exchange rate again of around $0.91 USD to the $AUD in converting the gratuities amount. Win.

p.s. If you can get this good rate and do end up buying some OBC, make sure you ask for a receipt sent to you personally (they like to send it to your TA only for some reason). Make sure you take the receipt with you as proof of purchase/transaction in case it doesn't show up on your folio on board. Note: OBC 'gifts' don't show anywhere on the personalizer. When you board, you should find the 'gift' card with the 'gifted' amount showing on it in your cabin.

For NZers too, the rate for gratuities and any prepurchased drinks or coffee cards are at a very good rate. Much better than the bank rate
Good point.

In your Personalizer there is now a tab where you can buy some drinks packages. The prices are again in $AUD (for us Aussie cruisers accessing through Princess Australia). Doing the conversion on the advertised $AUD prices for the coffee cards or drinks offers reveals you can certainly save some $ buying now rather than after you get on board.

NOTE. These pricings ( for Aussie cruisers and NZ'ers) that have the favourable currency conversion rates applied for OBC, pre-payed gratuities, drinks packages etc are for on 2015 cruise bookings and a different ( less favourable )rate applies for 2016 bookings.

Hi

If ship going to be in Europe for season crew happy to get tips in Euros.

yours Shogun

Thanks Shogun you're always helpful.

Never thought about tips in general, never mind Euros - first trip to Europe! We always carry lots of singles for room service tips, will make sure they are euros instead. Also will "tuck away" some extra euros for our special crew workers. :)
