Still hasn't been added back to the card. I just sent Carnival an inquiry via the "contact us" link (have had good success using that in the past).

I fly to FLL in two more weeks. It better be there by then!

Have you also tried this email: giftcards@carnival.com

Or this gift card number: 1-866-270-1064

I tried to read all the posts to find the answer to my question, but I gave up somewhere around page 9 or 10. Anyway, if we use the gift card towards our cruise balance and say we owe $417 but use a $500 card, what happens to the balance of the gift card? Is the balance still there or will they take the entire amount?

CruiserNic:

I just did this and the balance remains on the card. I then just reprinted the e-card and it showed a balance of $3.46. I will take that printed e-card along with the additional e-cards I purchased to guest services in 8 days when I board the fantasy (woot, woot!) and have the money applied to my Sail and Sign account. Hope that answers your question.

I did the same. It deducted $37 from my $100 card. Now the rest is on the card. Sailing in 17 days!

So, it appears that they're handled differently.

If you use a card to pay the balance (less than the card amount), the difference remains on the card. Makes sense. Carnival isn't going to take more than the balance due, no matter what you use to pay it off.

It states that right on the e-card page on Carnival's website.

But if you apply the card to your S&S and don't use it all, it does NOT go back on the card. You get a refund check.

Got a response from Carnival. Part of what was said was this...

"We apologize for the miscommunication but they should have advised you that the balance left would not go back on the gift card and that you would receive it via mail."

So, lesson learned. Use the large cards to pay balance on cruise; use smaller denominations to apply to S&S account. Not that getting the refund check was a big deal. I just expected it to go back on the card. At least now I don't have to keep up with that piece of paper, right? ;)

I was curious to know what happened if you pay on your balance with your gift cards & you cancel your cruise. I called Carnival and was told the refund is going to be put on a gift card. This makes sense except I might not want a $1000 or so dollars on a Carnival gift card vs a charge card that I can use for other items. Just another thing to consider when using the cards.

Except it wouldn't have gone back on the card! You would've received a refund check, like I did. You didn't need to cash it out in the casino.

If you apply it onboard to your S&S card, and don't spend it all, you get a refund check.

Personally, I'd just as soon not carry a wad of cash around on my way home, so the refund check (think it arrived in just under a week) was just fine.

Has anyone had problems getting registered for the rewards program? My husband has verizon so I tried to register for the program. I got a message for "restricted account access" saying that he's not the account manager. We've called to confirm that he is indeed the account manager. Any ideas before he calls verizon again?

My cruise is already paid for... Can I use these towards my sail and sign account if I buy them?

Yes you are supposed to be able to. Others have reported that you can apply them by going to guest services or at the self-service kiosks.

I am sailing the Freedom 12/13/14 and plan on taking some with me for OBC.

They work great. In Jacksonville, they would not take them at check in, but they took them at Guest Services right after sail away (the line was short). Easy Peasy.

Just wondering how the cards work at the kiosks. I noticed that some of my cards have a bar code while others just have numbers. Does anyone know if either can be used at the kiosk?

I tried to use mine at the kiosk. There wasn't an option to scan the barcode so it instructs you to enter the gift card number. I could not get mine to take. Took them to guest services and they had no trouble getting it on my account.

Thanks, I will give it a try at the kiosk first.

  • 2 weeks later...

Ok I haven't had good luck lately with gift cards ( bought for gifts at reputable site and not for cruise) and really wanted to take advantage of this so I sucked it up and bought the 50$ e card and used advice on here about how to apply towards the cost of my cruise and it worked so easily! Thank you guys! :D

I'm going to buy some next week to mostly pay off my cruise and then buy some for OBC..

I recently joined verizon. I helped a co-worker with her points, so I am happy to see that carnival is participating in this!

I just went to purchase e-certificates from the verizon website and there are none. Just $100.00 certificate that does not have all the features as the e-certificates. I hope they bring them back.

I bought $500 worth and when I booked our shore excursion when it came time to pay it said something like do you have a gift certificate so I put all of them in one at a time I had a few dollars left over and I used them on something else you just put that certificate # in again. Saved us $50 on shore excursions!

I called Verizon this morning and was told they are temporarily unavailable. Hopefully they'll be back soon, have 2 cruises to pay for and I like saving $$$.

Thanks John. I sent an e-mail but I haven't heard anything. I will keep an eye out. We have a cruise on May 3, 2015 and wanted to get some for OBC.
