Booking Carnival Ecstasy may have been a mistake

This will be my first Carnival cruise. Have done Royal Caribbean a few times and loved it. Booked Carnival Ecstasy and now find out only Suites have a mini fridge or even hair dryer. Now I'm feeling cheated. I also see the wine list is mostly low end wines. Hoping for a good time but going back to RCI really soon. Any thoughts on this ship? Thanks

Well, I think you did not research your ship very much before booking. Not that it would have changed your mind (?) but you would not be feeling cheated...It is well known here that Fantasy class ships do not have a fridge until you get to suites, nor hair dryers. Also true of Victory and Triumph (fridge). And most cabins on Sunshine (Destiny). It has never stopped me from sailing these ships. EM

No I didn't research. Am joining a group so just went for it. But at least I will be able to say I had the Carnival experience. I do have RC Oasis of the Seas to look forward to in the fall. Thanks

Mkay, so you know how RCCL has Grandeur and Legend OTS, they're small and old and don't have many bells and whistles compared to the newer ships right? Thats what the class ship Ecstasy is to Carnival. The smallest/oldest class, with the least bells and whistles.

I will say this, we sailed it last month and the service and food were GREAT- they far exceeded our previous cruise on Independence Of The Seas which is of course a huge BEAUTIFUL RCCL ship. The casino was also much better!

Just go with a good attitude, don't expect anything fancy or spectacular as far as berthing (the cabins are very tired imo) and the ships decor... and you will appreciate what it DOES offer.

We were just off the Ecstasy about a month ago. She is recently out of dry dock and in great shape! You can ask your room steward for a hair dryer. Have a great time on your cruise and enjoy all of the 2.0 upgrades!

We did a Christmas cruise last year on the Ecstasy and that was before her dry dock. She now has Guys Burgers which is a fun place for lunch. We also found the staff to be outstanding. We have done both Fantasy Class and the newer larger ships and like both. Have a great time.

I've sailed on all sizes of Carnival's fleet. Some had fridge and some didn't. My first was on Glory with a balcony and fridge. I was hooked. Sailed other times on smaller ships that just had an ocean view window and no fridge. I still had a great time. I don't like having a bad vacation so I try not to let things get me down. Not worth letting others control my life. Maybe that old adage is true cause I sure do like lemonade. 😋 😁 😎.

Have a blast on your trip!!

I wouldn't say you have had the Carnival experience. I wouldn't expect the 2nd oldest ship in the fleet to be anywhere near an accurate Carnival experience.

True, but what do you suggest?

I'd bring my own hair dryer. I've used the ship's many, many times, but I find mine better for styling vise just drying my hair.

Just a response to the person who said there is only one world. And I do what I can by volunteering and trying not to throw away piles of food. :) And by understanding that my world is different from an inner city in Detroit, or the countryside in Pakistan, and everywhere in between.

Anthomaniac. I do understand those things. And do lots of volunteer work. But the concept of first world, third world is colonial crap designed to make some feel innately less than others. We all all on planet earth. One world. If you disagree with my quibble about my minor issue of fridge no fridge that's cool. But it's not a first world problem. One world.

Anthomaniac, shopping for collapsible cooler tomorrow. Great suggestion. Thanks

Carnival has a size limit of 12 x 12 in for coolers. I pack mine in the suitcase with it expanded and I pack things inside it like my makeup and things that may need extra protection inside the suitcase.

You're allowed to take that off the ship too, correct?
