Poker

Card room is more for elderly ladies playing rummy.

But, would be fun to slap down a box of chips and start a poker game.

I wonder how long it would be before the security turned up.

As for the casino poker tables.

More akin to bingo that actual poker.

Do they run poker games on some ships?

Thought I read somewhere of a "card room", but it doesn't look close to the casino.

the card room is for casual play of board games, Mahjong and little old ladies playing pinochle.

maybe on the China cruises where Gambling is an art form will they run tournaments.

otherwise, just the tables in the casino.

So security would shut down a "for entertainment purposes only" poker game??? [emoji23]

in security's defense, how would they know? you could trade the chips in for cash at any point.

as to whether or not a private game is against ship policy, no idea.

All RCI ships (that I have sailed on, anyway) have hold 'em poker. Some have a live dealer and some use the electronic machines (all O class ships have the electronic machines, unfortunately).

As mentioned, they have the Royal Poker Tournament qualifying tournaments all throughout the cruise and I have seen some ships that have sit 'n go tournaments but those are relatively rare.

Whether or not a ship has cash games is entirely dependent upon how many poker players are on board. I have been on cruises where it was very hard to get enough people to play a cash game (almost exclusively played in the evenings after the theater lets out) - many evenings having none at all and I have been on cruises (a TA on the Jewel comes to mind) where we had a rowdy game in the afternoon and then another one in the evenings with long waiting lists to be seated, EVERY single day on a 12 night crossing, It just depends on the passengers.

The casino will ALWAYS try and make the cash game a $2-$5 game but if you stick to your guns and tell the host that you will only play if it is $1-$2 then they will relent and play $1-$2...but you have to set that precedent early in the cruise. If you let the host bully you into a $2-$5 game early then they will insist on a $2-$5 game the entire cruise. It's not hard to do you just have to be persistent and consistent and walk away if you have to....at least, the first time.

Whether or not they would shut it down, finding people who want to participate in a private "entertainment only" game may be a bit of a challenge.

And spookwife there are security cameras everywhere, so not sure how hard it would be for them to be aware of a game.
