FYI...I have been Princess Ships with a retractable pool cover but have never seen it retracted even in great weather.

It's unusual but they are opened every now and then. On the Island Princess last November, the first two days, the cover was open. It was then closed for the rest of the 19-day cruise.

Yes it does and the smell of Chlorine is awful.
