calmpets Posted February 28, 2015 #1 Share Posted February 28, 2015 I just discovered that the America's Cup World Series will be in Bermuda 10/16-18/2015. I'll be arriving in Bermuda at 11am on 10/18/2015 via the NCL Dawn. Does anyone know if I'll be able to catch any of the last race? There is no info online anywhere yet about the timing of the races, so I'm hoping someone who has attended in past years can give me an idea of what to expect. Thanks in advance! njhorseman Posted February 28, 2015 #2 Share Posted February 28, 2015 This event has not been held in Bermuda in the past. As I understand it, this is only the second time the America's Cup World Series has been contested. The first time was in 2011-2013 as a lead up to the 2013 America's Cup, and Bermuda wasn't one of the race locations. The 2017 America's Cup will be contested in Bermuda, so presumably that's why they were also awarded one of the World series events in 2015. Rare Got2Cruise Posted June 21, 2015 #5 Share Posted June 21, 2015 I read either here on CC or a Celebrity Cruiser fan page that the American team is already down there practicing and they dock next to the Summit.
emmy Posted June 22, 2015 #6 Share Posted June 22, 2015 I read either here on CC or a Celebrity Cruiser fan page that the American team is already down there practicing and they dock next to the Summit. I just arrived home yesterday after a 1 week land stay in Bermuda. We stayed on a boat in the dockyard and yes Team Oracle the US team has their headquarters there. I was able to purchase some Americas Cup souvenirs hat and tshirt in a store Coopers in Hamilton so far the only store that is selling any. Here is a capture of the US yacht. If you are on the ship looking at the dockyard the base is to the left of the Pier 41 Dockshop

islegroove Posted June 25, 2015 #9 Share Posted June 25, 2015 As the ship should be getting in the morning (8am?), you should have plenty of time to catch the racing. Normally, most sailing races don't start until around 10am. If it's going to be broadcast back to Europe, you are probably going to be looking at an afternoon start so it can have a primetime audience. One of the main reasons Bermuda was award the America's Cup proper was for the European audience and this also may hold true for the World Series Races. The NCL Dawn actually doesn't arrive till 11am, which will still work if it's an afternoon start, but won't work at all if they sail in the morning. Oh well, time will tell! welove2cruise2014 Posted July 11, 2015 #11 Share Posted July 11, 2015 I'll be curious to see what impact this will have on the Royal Naval Dockyard businesses being open that Sunday, as well as transportation around the island Sun through Tues. I would imagine this is a huge draw and crowds would be much larger that weekend?
grammy c Posted July 11, 2015 #12 Share Posted July 11, 2015 Just wondering if being there on the 9th&10th we might view a practice race or atleast all the boats. I would think all the boats to be somewhere around the dockyard?

emmy Posted July 11, 2015 #17 Share Posted July 11, 2015 (edited) They're talking about using cruise ships for the America's Cup in 2017, not the America's Cup World Series this October. I was wondering and thought 2017. I have been thinking that cruise ships will be used to house spectators, officials and/or participants. Interestingly when I vacationed in Bermuda last month for 1 week the customs form we filled out on the plane is ready for the America's Cup in Bermuda. :) :) Thanks Edited July 11, 2015 by emmy

calmpets Posted September 1, 2015 Author #19 Share Posted September 1, 2015 Just curious if anyone knows if the ferries are still going to run during the cup race? My guess is no, but I wondered if anything has been announced.
