LighthouseLover Posted January 11, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 11, 2012 We're looking at a river cruise ending in Amsterdam (possibly Uniworld SS Antoinette). What time does the ship dock? How long would it take to get to the airport? I'm trying to figure out if we would be able to make a 9:15am flight back to Newark. Thanks in advance for any info. Ine Posted January 12, 2012 #2 Share Posted January 12, 2012 That early in the morning it will take about 30 minutes to get to the airport. However almost all airlines want you to checkin 2-3 hours before departure. Very unlikely you can make such an early flight.
franski Posted January 12, 2012 #3 Share Posted January 12, 2012 Actually, if you book with Uniworld - they will take care of that detail for you. Transfers on the day of embarkation and disembarkation are included - even if you don't book air with them. They will get you to the airport for your flight - even if it means getting you off the boat before breakfast. I expect the boat will be docked in Amsterdam either the day before (ie: last day spent in Amsterdam) or will dock sometime during the night. paul929207 Posted January 12, 2012 #4 Share Posted January 12, 2012 If you dock in Amsterdam the night before the cruise ends, you can get off early and make the flight. On the other hand if you are arriving in Amsterdam at 7 or 8 am, forget it.
guestyguestyguesty Posted January 12, 2012 #5 Share Posted January 12, 2012 How about spending one day in Amsterdam? Wonderful city.
LighthouseLover Posted January 13, 2012 Author #6 Share Posted January 13, 2012 Would love to spend another day, but unfortunately have to get back to work. Thanks for the info everyone. According to the fine print on the Uniworld website we can get a flight anytime from 7am on so I think we should be okay.
H2Otstr Posted January 13, 2012 #7 Share Posted January 13, 2012 Would love to spend another day, but unfortunately have to get back to work. Thanks for the info everyone. According to the fine print on the Uniworld website we can get a flight anytime from 7am on so I think we should be okay. Our flights from Europe to the US have always been at 7 or 8 am. The cruise company usually had us up and out the door by 4:30 or 5 am. All the cruises that we have taken have all docked at their final destination either in the middle of the night or the evening before departure. Rare FlyerTalker Posted January 16, 2012 #8 Share Posted January 16, 2012 Be aware that security for US bound flights out of AMS have screening at the gate area. Any liquids have to be in STEB or under the 100ml limit. Also, the lines for your screening can be long, as there is also an interview process along with the x-ray and WTMD. cruiserdt37 Posted February 7, 2012 #9 Share Posted February 7, 2012 The boat is docked the night before, so it's just a matter of how early you want to get up to leave.
Lightpackers Posted February 7, 2012 #10 Share Posted February 7, 2012 Did this trip last year , very early departure at approximately 4:30AM, arranged by Uniworld, taken in a private car, just the two of us to the airport, in more than ample time to catch an Iberia flight. Relax and enjoy, it's a terrific cruise. Helen and Bruce
