rob083 Posted May 21, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 21, 2004 I booked a balcony guarantee, but within one week the Princess website has assigned me a room. Is this final? Or subject to change because the original booking was a guarantee? Any one out there with a similar experience, please advise. spongerob Posted May 22, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 22, 2004 Nothing's final. Your best bet is to obsessively check the cruise personalizer at least twice per day for the next 5 months. It doesn't actually help, but it's fun. And you never know... Suncat Posted May 22, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 22, 2004 No your not the only one, I am obsessed too. We booked a BF Guarantee and were told there would be an 80% chance of an upgrade. Our Crusie personalizer status indicated "BF" for the room for about 3 weeks, then they assigned a room, an upgrade to BB AFT. What room did they assign you, and what Category? After they assigned the category (BB) we were able to move to another BB room that had a larger balcony. Good Luck. Alway check w/your TA to see if there's an upgrade. Druke I Posted May 22, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 22, 2004 TahitiMama The Upgrade Fairy has visited us both before and after final payment - and once we were upgraded at the pier, upon check-in. Just off Sun Princess' repo up the Left Coast, where we received two upgrades - and the last put us into an AC mini-suite, which was quite nice. We had booked a BD balcony originally, and had been upgraded once to a BA, and then to the AC. Sis-in-law and her hubby, who were travelling with us, were not visited by the Upgrade Fairy this trip. No accounting for it, other than just plain luck! Michael
Lynda90 Posted May 22, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 22, 2004 We booked a cateogry AD mini-suite on Diamond under a "gty" and were assigned a cabin a week or so later in catetgory AA. This was prior to final payment. After payment was made and about 1 or so months prior to cruise we were really hit with the upgrade fairy and were assigned a premium suite (ps 753) which I understand is a great aft location. So, you just never know. We are leaving next weekend and are greatly looking forward to our first full suite. I will be reporting when I get back. Just remember, with cruising, I don't think there are any really bad cabins--it's all in the attitude and always book what you think you'll be happy with and that way no disappointments. Tahitian Princess Posted May 22, 2004 #9 Share Posted May 22, 2004 Thanks Michael, We actually picked our cabin because we stayed in that one a couple of years ago when it was Renaissance, we liked the location.Although, I certainly wouldn't complain if the Upgrade Fairy sprinkled us with her "suite" dust. 8/15 Back to Paradise on the Tahitian Princess

rob083 Posted May 22, 2004 Author #11 Share Posted May 22, 2004 Hi suncat if you read this please respond. Did you originally book a guarantee? I booked a BD guarantee and within one week they assigned on the cruise personalizer a BA cabin on Carib deck. I would really prefer to be in a BA cabin on Lido deck. Should I just sit quiet and see what happens or should I say something? The cruise is still 5 months away. spongerob Posted May 23, 2004 #12 Share Posted May 23, 2004 Not to be too harsh or anything, but if you want a BA on Lido deck, it's best to book a BA on Lido deck. What you're really asking is, "I went for the cheaper price thinking I'd take what I got, but now I've got something other than what I REALLY wanted, so can I get the same privilege as someone who paid more?" A guarantee means you'll get the minimum specified, nothing more. It's not a license to start making special requests. JMO, of course. Why do you want to move from a BA on Carib (land of great balconies) to Lido? I guess you can try calling your TA and ask to be relocated as long as you are in the same BA cat. it might work! Good Luck. I have to agree with Spongerob - If you book a guarantee you should be happy with any upgrade or be ready to settle for no upgrade. (I'm sure you're happy) My TA indicated to us that we could book BF Guarantee and then if we were not upgraded by the time our final payment came around, we could pay the extra to get a better cabin CAT. Talk it over with your TA... Good Luck!

dcrichard Posted May 23, 2004 #16 Share Posted May 23, 2004 Hi all, I am fairly new to cruising. My daughter and her husband and Me and my husband have balcony rooms booked next to each other so we can open up the balcony. Is there a chance that they would still upgrade us? Not sure I would want to be upgraded since we are looking forward to having connecting balcony. Dawn Princess Alaska
TracyQ Posted May 23, 2004 #17 Share Posted May 23, 2004 If you have been assigned a BA catagory - you can move anywhere within that catagory around the ship so long as there is a room available. You can also "down-grade" yourself to a lower cabin catagory if the location is better for you. We originally booked AE (minisuite) catagories and were given AB. We were able to then change our bookings so that the rooms were side by side - and I "downgraded" two of the rooms to AD because of the covered balconies. Princess had no problem with doing this - and we saved thousands by booking the guarantees! Also - once you are assigned a room - if you like it - you can then call and tell them you want to "lock in" that room. They will not move or upgrade you after that. Hope this helps you! P.A. Posted May 24, 2004 #19 Share Posted May 24, 2004 Question! i'm new here and to Princess. We're booked for BE#739 Aft balcony on 10/02. Haven't made final payment yet and don't have to til July 17th. Should we have done a balcony guarantee? Does anyone know if this room's balcony is big enough for 2 lounge chairs? Also, I've read about all of you getting Blessed by the upgrade fairy....but is she only good to those that have sailed with Princess before? Not a very good chance of her visit to the newbies? Thanks for your info! ~Pam~
LeeLeesCruisin Posted May 24, 2004 #20 Share Posted May 24, 2004 Pam, I don't have an answer for you about the balcony, but I can answer your question about the upgrade fairy. Our upcoming cruise is our first with Princess and the upgrade fairy visited us! We booked a specific cabin in Cat. BE and within a few weeks we were upgraded to a specific cabin in Cat. BB. Didn't seem like a huge upgrade at first until I checked the ship plans and noticed that the new cabin had a balcony that was twice as big! We're really happy with our new cabin. So, yes, the upgrade fairy likes newbies, too! LeeLee Carnival Fantasy 9/6/01 RCI Sovereign of the Seas 8/1/04 Sapphire Princess Honeymoon! GottoCruise Posted May 24, 2004 #23 Share Posted May 24, 2004 TraveyQ --"we saved thousands by booking the guarantees" What do you mean by this??? If you are booked in a Category - specific cabin or Guarantee - it's the same rate??.... (Ithought)! TracyQ Posted May 24, 2004 #24 Share Posted May 24, 2004 gottocruise When we booked our minisuites in January - the "minisuite guarantee" (catagory AE) were 400.00pp less than the lowest "assigned" minisuites (such as booking AE711). They could have put us in ANY of the minisuites or upgraded to a full suite. I don't know if this is often done by Princess as this will be our first cruise with them - it worked out great for us! We booked 4 rooms (8 passengers) so it saved us 3200.00! Tracy DIAMOND ALASKA
GottoCruise Posted May 24, 2004 #25 Share Posted May 24, 2004 Wow!---All these cruises - and I didn't know a Guarantee booking was less than the same category booked in a specific cabin? Maybe because I always book with an agent??? The agent's rates are (usually) lower than direct w/ Princess - and I look for a TA's "group" rate - guarantee and specific cabin rate have been quoted the same --- no advantage that I see to book a guarantee if rates are the same - I book a specific cabin and leave it "Open for upgrade" - that way if I'm not upgraded - I know exactly where my cabin is located.... If Princess' rate and TA Group rate was quoted the same for you --you got a great deal!! (My next booking - I will be sure to check, thanks for the tip!) Enjoy your cruise!!!
