Ctmspeed Posted June 8, 2017 #1 Share Posted June 8, 2017 I'm a first time cruiser and about to book/travel to the South Pacific in July/August. There's plenty of options I know but which are the best sites for value/options... direct to companies like Carnival or P and O or travel agents ? RenaeG Posted June 8, 2017 #2 Share Posted June 8, 2017 Are you cruising then or wanting to book then? I am from Melbourne but I would suggest you fly to Sydney to go on cruises with better ships. Personally I am loyal to Royal Caribbean but I've heard good things about Celebrity that also cruises from Sydney. The best ship that sails from Australia is Ovation of the Seas which is Royal Caribbean - i am not sure of your budget but it's worth the extra money as it's pretty new and state of the art. Their other better ships are Voyager of the Seas and Explorer of the Seas. I've been on Explorer and the service and food were fantastic but the ship is not as flashy as Ovation. Royal have a good sale on atm, 50% off second passenger - check their website for details etc. Happy to answer any questions you have. cruiserking Posted June 8, 2017 #3 Share Posted June 8, 2017 I think you always get a better deal working with a travel agent. A good agent will save you money and get you perks like on board credit, comp gratuities. Jonathan
Rare Essiesmom Posted June 8, 2017 #4 Share Posted June 8, 2017 There is a board here for OZ/NZ cruisers. You might get more opinions there. EM
buchhalm Posted June 18, 2017 #5 Share Posted June 18, 2017 I agree with booking through an agent, either in person at a "physical office" , preferably with cruise specialist or with a reputable on-line agency. Whilst I could see a lot of great ships, even the tip-of-the crop "Europa" and "Europa2" from my current office window in Melbourne over the past few month, I don't know how many cruises actually STARTED in Melbourne. I agree with the opinion that it would give you a wider range of choices to start your cruise in Sydney.
GUT2407 Posted June 18, 2017 #6 Share Posted June 18, 2017 In all honesty it can vary. I've had some horrendous experiences with Travel Agents, so started booking direct, then after some great experiences booking direct, they changed my contact about four times in two months and everything back to horrendous
