Kdcruiser5 Posted April 14, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 14, 2014 Hi all I am new to this site. I have no experience on RCC at all. I am heading out in a little over a week and I have a million things I am trying to get straight. My for most question is what is not included in your cruise air. I know alcohol but what else? My 2 children are coming and I want to be well prepared ahead of time. Any suggestions for sea sickness medication. My daughter tends to get motion sickness in long car rides but only in the back seat so I would like to get her as well as myself something ahead of time so its not even an issues. thanks

cb at sea Posted April 14, 2014 #3 Share Posted April 14, 2014 (edited) Included in your cruise fare is: entertainment, Kid's club facilities for those kids over 3 years old, pool, meals in the dining room and buffet, and whatever included eating venues are on your ship (you don't say which ship!)...room service... Drinks include are, Ice water, coffee,, tea (iced or hot), lemonade or flavored water, milk and juice at breakfast. Soda is NOT included, but a can of soda is around $2.80...or, if you don't care how much soda your child drinks, a soda package is available for unlimited fountain soda. Bonine works for most folks for motion sickness...but it depends on your childs age...ask her pediatrician what she should use. A cabin midship and on a middle deck will experience the least movement. Edited April 14, 2014 by cb at sea
Clarea Posted April 15, 2014 #4 Share Posted April 15, 2014 If Explorer, Cafe Promenade is included. If Enchantment, Park Cafe is included.
debbs0723 Posted April 15, 2014 #5 Share Posted April 15, 2014 You will hear many suggestions. I have done the patch and had good luck. If you don't want to get an rx try to start taking dramamine a few days before as well. One trick with this is to take it at night to fight off drowsiness. A more homeopathic option would be ginger pills or ginger gum. Just remember take before she feels sick as a preventative and not after. The quickest way I learned from a seasoned cruiser to combat immediate sea sickness is to get in the pool. It makes your body feel stabilized. Worked for me at least. The worst going is to go hang out in your room. Sent from my Iphone
emilysmimi Posted April 15, 2014 #6 Share Posted April 15, 2014 I used to use Bonine, but I found that it made me sleepy. I changed to ginger pills about 5 yrs ago and highly recommend them. They work like a charm, without the drowsiness.
138east Posted April 15, 2014 #7 Share Posted April 15, 2014 For the kids - Video games are not included. I believe you can go to guest services and have a limit put on your kids' Seapass cards so they can't go crazy in the video arcade. If you use Adventure Ocean it is customary to tip. The Family Cruise board can give advice on that. The cabins have refrigerators, so you can always take out drinks like lemonade and keep it in your cabin. If you request ice, you can put the drinks in a water bottle and store them in the ice bucket. You can also grab pieces of fresh fruit and cookies for the cabin. You can always get milk - just ask for it if you don't see it. It is also usually possible to carry on some extra drinks like juice packs as well as some extra snacks of your preference. Silverhues Posted April 15, 2014 #8 Share Posted April 15, 2014 My son is also prone to motion sickness, and we have used sea bands for him when we have cruised or traveled by airplane. They seem to have been beneficial for him. You can get get them over the counter at most pharmacies, and you simply wear them on your wrists. As already mentioned, specialty restaurants, soda, alcohol, specialty coffee/drinks, And bottled water are not included. Just a heads up that they charge for the bottled water/ drinks that may be in your cabin/fridge if you drink them. If you are on the Explorer, they have an ice skating rink (no charge to watch ice show or ice skate during the open slots), but you will need to bring long pants and socks to skate. We were on the Explorer a few years ago, and will be back in September! Hope you have a great cruise!

Jimnbigd Posted April 15, 2014 #10 Share Posted April 15, 2014 (edited) Add to Not Included: * Purchase from the shops * Photos you purchase (no charge to have your photo taken) * Spa (such as hair or massage) * Some exercise classes. (I've read the Oasis and Allure also charge for the sauna and steam room -- Is this true?) * After-hours baby sitting * Shore excursions (no charge to leave the ship on your own) * Standard gratuities (usually charged to your sea pass account) * Addtional gratuities (usually tip room service a buck or two, and we usually give extra to the cabin attendant and waiters) * Gratuities to Adventure Ocean (not required, but nice to do if your kids use it -- let the kids hand the tip over the last full day) * Gratuities to the musicians (not required, but nice to do) * Bag handler gratuities (before and after your cruise) * Bus driver gratuities (before and after your cruise and on shore excursions) If you run out of dollar bills for tipping, you can get change from the Customer Service desk or from the casino cashier. luvbrady Posted April 15, 2014 #11 Share Posted April 15, 2014 For my daughter (also a back seat motion sickness type) generally a ginger ale or 2 the first night is sufficient until she acclimates. HOWEVER- that is in the Caribbean. If the EOS you are referring to is Explorer out of NJ I would definitely bring something more potent aboard. It can be a different ball of wax in the Atlantic. We had 2 adults and 1 kid have a tough day or 2. Ironically, she was not the kid- go figure. Have fun!
Kdcruiser5 Posted April 15, 2014 Author #12 Share Posted April 15, 2014 (edited) Sorry folks I just re-read my post and realized I could have been a bit clearer. The ship is Exployer out of NJ & my "children" are both over 18. They do plan to see & do everything on board so I wanted to be sure ahead if time what is not free. Don't want any surprises at the end of our trip. My husband & I both lost our dads this past year & we just want & need rest, relaxation, peace and no more surprises. Thank you for all your replies I really appreciate it. I was also curious what are the extra fees on RCC private island? And any good suggestions for old San Juan. A few people have told us to just stay on the ship but that seems like such a waste. One last thing, do you think ginger pills will be strong enough for the great Atlantic journey? Thanks again all :) Edited April 15, 2014 by Kdcruiser5

FireStation46 Posted April 15, 2014 #15 Share Posted April 15, 2014 (edited) For kids you can also get "Sea Band" from Amazon and the like. They just wear it on their wrist. You can also get Ginger Gum, green apples on board (free) in case they get queezy. I will be on EOS later this year. Through RCL I booked the Old San Juan tour, St Marteen tour, cabana at Hati. Just go to RCL site and check out the options. Your kids can not get the adult beverage unless they are over 21 I believe. Even though it is an older ship they will upgrade later, it is a fun cruise with a great staff. Enjoy!
