sandydownunder Posted August 17, 2009 #1 Share Posted August 17, 2009 I wouldn't mind visiting the LL Bean store (or outlet store) if I have time. From my research I am a bit confused. I have the address as 542 Congress Street. I assumed it was in Portland but it may be in Freeport. Where is the store? If it is in Feeport how far away is that from Portland? How long would it take? Is there a bus? Thanks, Sandra

daytona Posted August 18, 2009 #5 Share Posted August 18, 2009 Sandy-There's an outlet in Freeport also right near the flagship store. Go to the llbean website and it will list the information for the Portland and Freeport stores. Here is a link for a map of LLbean in Freeport. http://cdn.llbean.com/shop/retailStores/freeportFlagshipStore/images/2009_Freeport_Map.pdf Freeport is worth the 1/2 hour drive if you have the time. sandydownunder Posted August 18, 2009 Author #6 Share Posted August 18, 2009 Thankyou for the link Daytona. Cute map-I love those. Unfortunately I'll have to settle on Portland. We are doing two tours city & lighthouses so there won't be enough time to go to Freeport. Sandra
TheWog Posted August 19, 2009 #7 Share Posted August 19, 2009 That's too bad, because the outlet stores do not do LL Bean justice. The flagship store is just that, a flagship. Have a great time.
ellbon Posted August 28, 2009 #8 Share Posted August 28, 2009 the main store is open 24/7 and i shop there at night- less people. the outlet is the sell stuff- nice for a jacket or two but not big at all.
chatdad Posted October 3, 2009 #9 Share Posted October 3, 2009 Outlet in Portland not worth a visit unless you find yourself in need of a jacket if you left yours at home.
Donder1 Posted October 3, 2009 #10 Share Posted October 3, 2009 I'd ditch the city tour as the Old Port is the best area and that's where your ship docks. LLBeans flagship store should not be missed. I seldom go to the outlet store.Don't bother. Go to Freeport.
Spender Nui Posted January 5, 2010 #11 Share Posted January 5, 2010 The REAL LL Bean store is in Portland. Once you've been there (regardless if it's 3:00 AM or any holiday). It's the one to visit.
SailBadtheSinner Posted January 6, 2010 #12 Share Posted January 6, 2010 The main store is located in Freeport Maine; the store located in Portland Maine is an outlet. I do agree with the time (24/7); the store in Freeport is the one to visit provided you have the time and transportation. http://www.llbean.com/shop/retailStores/freeportFlagshipStore/homeStore/homeStore.html SBtS
daytona Posted January 6, 2010 #13 Share Posted January 6, 2010 Yep the original since 1917? is in Freeport. Open 24 hrs a day since the 50's I think. The small Portland outlet closes at 5-6 PM.
sail7seas Posted January 18, 2010 #14 Share Posted January 18, 2010 we'vebeen to the Freeport store and was at the Portland one this summer. We found a few useful things in Portland but the Freeport one is very much better. If you don't want to take the time to go to Freeport, it's worth a visit in Portland IMO

sopo pirates Posted January 28, 2010 #16 Share Posted January 28, 2010 Anyone traveling to Portland Maine after Sept 2010 will find the LL Bean Outlet on Congress Street closed - Bean announced earlier this winter they are not renewing their lease, so come September your only choice will be going to Freeport. skyview851 Posted February 16, 2010 #17 Share Posted February 16, 2010 I want to visit the store in Freeport. How do I get there? Taxi? Are there any local tours that include a stop at LLBean?
SailBadtheSinner Posted February 16, 2010 #18 Share Posted February 16, 2010 Q: I want to visit the LLBean store in Freeport. How do I get there? Taxi? local tours that include a stop there? A: I'm not aware of any tours originating in Portland that stop at the LLBean store in Freeport; IMO, it is not a tourist destination but a destination for the serious shopper. There are really 2 options: rent a car or go by taxi. If you search this forum for car rental Portland, you should receive numerous hits because your question has been asked before. The distance from Portland to Freeport is about 17.5 miles. SBtS
jagsfan Posted April 4, 2010 #19 Share Posted April 4, 2010 It's a short drive in a rental car, but an expensive one in a taxi. The main store is wonderful, and the outlet is across the side street. There's a guy selling red hot dogs on the corner....delicious. If you do go, and you do drive, go to Harraseeket Wharf for your lunch.....lobster rolls, steamed clams, fried clams and boats to look at. Anyone can tell you how to get there. LLBean is like Wonderland, tons of outdoors stuff, but also t-shirts, jackets, boat totes, a kitchen section with jars of wild blueberries for pies, etc. It's a destination in itself!!
