  1. I don’t think they serve dinner in the Golden Lion on the QM2 but I have had reports that they do serve dinner in the Pub on the smaller ships.
  2. Looks about right. A child does not receive any discount as the second person in a suite. each passenger receives the premium drink package as it comes with the suite.
  3. Very surprised that your Grill reservation is without gratuities and drinks. Just checked the Cunard site and it still shows that Grill fares are inclusive. In December the area that was the Godiva Cafe no longer had that name. Still served tea and pastries all day including a great lemon tart.
  4. We were on the QM2 in the Queens Grill for 20 days in Nov- Dec. We found the food to be even better than pre COVID. We had whatever we wanted for lunch and dinner. Table side preparations were done with every dinner. In the U.S., Grill reservations come with most drinks and gratuities. The upper limit for drinks was $13 and there were many drinks that fit below that price. However, if you ordered a drink that was $13.50 you were charged the total amount.
  5. I believe you can still rent a Tuxedo on the QM2. If you want to fully experience the QM2 voyage you may want to do this. I am been on the QM2 many times so what is the Yacht Club? The Commodore Lounge overlooks the bow and has either a pianist or a string trio for entertainment. The Golden Lion is the Pub on board and it offers lunch and dinner. The Queens Room has ballroom dancing and there is also a discotheque. You can join the passenger choir and there is a performance during the crossing, sometimes popular music and other times sea faring songs. Don’t miss the huge library and the planetarium.
  6. In Brooklyn, we stayed at the Marriott. It is fine and is in walking distance of DUMBO with many excellent restaurants and wonderful walks with great views.
  7. You will get to use your new Tux at least twice on your crossing. Most wore a jacket every evening. Please remember that the Queens Grill Menu is only a suggestion as you can have whatever you fancy. If your are lucky Osman will be your Mater D. He made us special items every evening. We especially enjoyed his Peking Duck but he has a special spicy pasta he enjoys making.
  8. SLDS, when we’re you last on the Venture or Pursuit?
  9. You should have, at least, had the Butler polish those scuffed brown shoes!
  10. We have been on Cunard for many voyages and never had a bad voyage. Started in an inside stateroom but now we only sail in the Grills. We had an excursion in Southampton on a B2B2B and we were given a time to disembark for our tour. We went straight off the ship and to our excursion. Guess problems can happen on any trip. Look at the Cunard thread and you will see very few complaints.
  11. I believe they would be just as unhappy with Cunard and they would have to dress for dinner.
  12. Actually there is little class structure on the QM2. It is not “in your face” as it is on Celebrity. You will not board on red carpet or be escorted to special seats in the Theater. There is one lounge for Grill passengers with a concierge, tea and pastries. It’s in the middle of the ship on a passenger deck, no windows and nothing fancy. There is also a bar for Grill passengers with a pianist. It’s not restricted as we have had many friends join us for cocktails. The Grill Restaurants are the only really restricted areas. No outside area to speak of on the QM2. We really enjoy the themed crossings and last December we were on a Literature cruise with 27 best selling authors (UK) and the Editor of the New York Times book review and the London Times book review. The crossings typically have some theme or special artists. We missed James Taylor and Carly Simons but you can see some of their performances on YouTube. It is something you need to do at least once, consider it.
  13. You should really add Cunard, Queens Grill, to your list. You would really enjoy it and with everything that is included in the Grills you won’t even miss your Zenith perks. The QM2 is the one to experience, totally different feel from premium cruise ships. I know the two of you wouldn’t mind wearing a jacket for evenings or a tie for gala evenings.
  14. The hike in Nuuk took the entire day! It was also cold and rainy. The shorter hike up the mountain, rocky and slippery was in Kitaa.
  15. We were on the Venture last year for 14 days to Greenland. The hiking activities were definitely not soft. Four hour hike at one village, up a very Rocky Mountain. In Nuuk they offered a seven hour hike and quite a few took the hikes. We are talking about non groomed trails. Guess you didn’t go to Greenland.
  16. Segments of World Cruises are always inexpensive.
  17. Glad there is no problem getting vaccinated in Maryland. Is your wife in poor health? We are in our 70’s and could get the vaccine.
  18. It actually takes less time to throw a load of wash in the self service laundry than to count up garments and fill out the laundry slip. Takes a total of 15 minutes or less to load a washer, put wash in the dryer and remove it to our cabin. We do send the items that need pressing to the ships laundry.
  19. We really enjoyed Earth and Ocean in the Colonnade. Sorry you thought it was a dismal failure. When on the Venture we had dinner every night in the Colonnade that they offered Earth and Ocean ad will continue to do so on future Venture/Pursuit cruises.
  20. Enjoy Regent, however, many of your fellow CCers can’t afford them.
  21. I thought this thread stated that there were no appetizers offered in the MDR, only salads and soups.
  22. Didn’t know they eliminated shrimp cocktails or escargot ? No appetizers now??
  23. Hard to believe any qualified butler would be without employment. Silver Seas and Cunard are hiring. There is a general shortage of employees for all cruise lines. Doubt that Celebrity would let good employees go when so many other cruise lines are short of employees and eagerly hiring.
  24. We also did excursions into the rainforest at several ports. There were insects, some amazingly large.
  25. In the PH, meals from the Specialty Restaurants were included if you ate in that restaurant. We were never promised Specialty Restaurants meals would be served in our suite. Many of the restaurants have tableside offerings not conducive to room service. Hopefully Celebrity will train the Butlers and Retreat Hosts so individual butlers won’t be pressed to break the rules.
