  1. That is exactly what happened to me. After 3 Carnival cruises, I tried a Viking river cruise last year and a Scenic river cruise this year. No way would I get on a mega-ship(3,000 or more) again. I do like the ocean though, so I am doing a transatlantic next year with Silverseas. Great deal for a solo, free air and all-inclusive. I will let everyone know how I enjoy it!
  2. Yeppers! Hope it is the best of both worlds. I found it last August and put a deposit down almost a year in advance (with the balance due this past April). Others might not not be able to plan that far out, but I couldn't resist. Never done Alaska, Road Sch. or HAL.
  3. So, I am able to combine an ocean cruise WITH Road Scholar! In July, I board Holland America for a 15 day trip to the Alaskan coastal waters. All excursions are included, plus lectures. I am going solo, but of course will be with a group of about 35 so will never be lonely! Free airfare from my state, too. all for about $5,000.
  4. The 2 river cruises I have been on, I have booked the one cabin designated for a solo traveler. Viking and Scenic lines. Just look at the deck plans. You will see (in a different color) a smaller room. Called somthing like single balcony suite as opposed to junior suite or veranda suite. My friends that stopped to check out my cabin were impressed with the layout and roominess. So, you do not pay double because it is not intended as a double occupancy room.
  5. Lois- come on the Trans-Atlantic in March 2020! Silversea Shadow!
  6. What would the temperature be? Heading south should be fairly warm, I think??
  7. You go, Lois! Let me know how Silverseas and Azamara compare!
  8. Yes, the Shadow. Does Crystal do repositioning/trans ocean for about the same price and amenities? It must stop in more ports, too, I imagine? This one is just Maderia and Lisbon.
  9. I'm doing the 13 day transatlantic next March, which means a lot of sea days(I'm fine with that) as a solo and got in for under $5,000 with free airfare, transfers, etc. But if you like a lot of ports, this wouldn't be your cup of tea. I am going for the relaxation and superb service they promise.
  10. What is considered 'maiden'? Will this be a brand new ship or just the first time it has crossed the Atlantic?
  11. Just booked for March, 2020, from Ft. Lauderdale to Lisbon transatlantic 13 days. This is on Silverseas Shadow and includes airfare, transfers, gratuities, alcohol, butler, 6-star service. 8 total sea days(which I love). Total cost $4,680. Must pay in full by the end of the month. 0% solo charge. Check it out!
  12. What does Crystal usually offer for solos? That's how I travel.
  13. What is the policy on transatlantic cruises for smokers? Hopefully, away from non-smokers. Maybe just in the casino?
