  1. @cruisemom42... This is the first I have heard of Roma Shuttle...a search here turns up no mention. I'm thinking you've used Roma Shuttle or you wouldn't have mentioned them. We have used RomeCabs for years, but Roma Shuttle's rates got my attention. @CalLuvsCrusingToo... My recommendation would be to use a transfer service from Hotel Smerlado to FCO. Roma Shuttle's rate would be €65 for four while the train would cost €56 total for 4 plus the cost of a taxi to Termini. The shuttle would cost less in the end and is much more civilized. I also suggest you forego having the hotel setup the transfer. We're staying at Hotel Smeraldo in October and their quote for a transfer was much higher than self booking.
  2. Your confidence in my ability is much appreciated. However, since international phone use has been discussed to some extent on just about every board on Cruise Critic it might be best to reference a couple I have found to be beneficial. Here are two...a thread and a board. On the Viking Ocean board: Cheapest way to use your smartphone internationally The Cruising Technology board
  3. My recommendation would be to purchase a SIM card or eSIM for use in Europe. If your phone is a newer model, an eSIM is the way to go. Check out the eSIM database here.
  4. We missed Livorno on our first Med cruise back in September 2007. The sea that night was the roughest we have ever experienced. We anchored in the bay off La Spezia and tendered in. We had a ship's tour to Cinque Terre booked for the day, so it actually worked out very well for us. Tour buses were diverted so those going to Florence did go, but for a shorter time.
  5. That's a 14½ hour layover if your times are correct.
  6. Why not forego Viking Air and book your flights on your own? We prefer to be in control of our pre-cruise flights and always arrive a day or two prior to embarkation. Scheduling arrival the day of embarkation can lead to some unpleasant results in this era of air travel.
  7. The BABYLISSPRO® NANO TITANIUM™ TRAVEL DRYER is the latest version of the one she has.
  8. Can anyone say whether the Lobster Roll now contains any lobster? It was a huge disappointment last fall on the Edge.
  9. No, the one she has is dual voltage. I believe the link I provided is for the single voltage model...sorry about that.
  10. Will do. Just added a reminder to my calendar. We have a dinner reservation at Salumeria Con Cucina Roscioli a few days later. Our opinion of the wine and food tasting will determine whether we keep the dinner reservation.
  11. We're doing a wine tasting at Rimessa Roscioli in early October. They do two tastings per evening and will ship from their extensive selection. They recently opened a restaurant in New York.
  12. Stefano Rome Tours is a sister company of Stefano's RomeCabs...highly regarded here on the Italy board. If you decide to do the tour, do it with Stefano.
  13. No we don't! I'll agree only that you're incorrect and you're doing a disservice to fellow cruisers who read and believe your insistance that what you espouse is correct. Do the right thing and call Chase Card Benefits Services and report what you learn here. By the way, ALL CAPS in a forum post is considered yelling or screaming. Bold is used for emphasis.
  14. We do not have two cards...just one in my name. In your case, with two cards on one account, your maximum coverage would be $10,000 per person, $20,000 per trip.
  15. @bitob... In the case of doubling up on two Chase Sapphire cards or a combination of Chase Sapphire and Chase United Airlines cards I am, in fact, correct. You are not correct!! I just got off a phone call with Chase Card Benefits Services with a gentleman who confirmed my understanding of Chase's travel insurance coverage. Chase Sapphire will pay up to $10,000 per person for a total of $20,000 per trip. A second Chase Sapphire card does not increase coverage. Coverage will not be combined. Chase United Airlines card will pay $1,500 per person up to a total of $6,000 for common carrier fares such as airlines, cruises, etc. Again, Chase coverage offered by the United Airlines cannot be combined with that of other cards. Chase Card Benefits Services can be reached at 800-348-8472, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They will not answer inquiries via email. I urge anyone who still believes Chase will allow coverage among two or more cards to be combined to give them a call.
  16. Yes, you can. However, it may be taken and held for you until the evening before disembarkation.
  17. My DW has used the BaBylissPRO hair dryer pictured below and purchased at Amazon since December 2017. She wouldn't be without it when traveling internationally. If it didn't work well, I'd know about it.
  18. Flat irons are listed on Princess' prohibited items list here. When we used to cruise that line, irons were available in the laundry room. Check for power requirement on the item itself or operating manual. We haven't used a power converter for years and when we did they did not work well. Perhaps they're better now. My DW purchased a dual-voltage hair dryer for international travel that has worked well.
  19. I strongly suggest you contact Chase Card Benefits Services regarding the validity of double benefits. Having two Chase Sapphire credit cards does not double the amount of travel insurance coverage. Both the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card and the Chase Sapphire Reserve offer identical insurance, including up to $10,000 per covered person with a maximum of $20,000 per trip and a maximum payout of $40,000 per 12-month period. It's important to note that the coverage limits are per person, per trip, regardless of the number of credit cards you have. Therefore, having two Chase Sapphire Reserve credit cards would not increase the coverage amount for travel insurance.
  20. In November 2019 we did a food tour in Rome with Eating Rome Food Tours. At the end of the tour our excellent guide shared his favorites with us. See below...
  21. This is a question better posed on the forum dedicated to the cruise line you're sailing...Carnival perhaps? Cruise lines each have their own rules for bringing wines and spirits onboard and their consumption.
  22. Strikes are announced in advance. Just keep an eye out. RT transportation offered by your cruise line at $64 per person is probably your next best option price-wise. You'll likely be dropped off and pick up at a fairly central location which will eliminate the need for a taxi from and to Termini.
  23. I wouldn't depend on finding taxis for tours at ports in the Med. I suggest you book with your cruise line or join private tours offered on your roll call.
  24. Those lower mileage requirements are available for our city pairs also; however, only for 2-stop itineraries. We prefer 1-stop in the US so we pay the higher price in miles. I note those lower cost itineraries include code-shares with Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Air Dolomiti, or Brussels Airlines. We've flown Lufthansa and Austrian a couple of times transatlantic and would do so again if offered by United on a 1-stop itinerary.
