  1. Sorry if I led to the confusion earlier. I'm only used to one Italian restaurant on any given ship so I confuse Giovanni's for Jamie's. I booked Jamie's with the discount today. $20 pp including gratuity. Can't wait. In all our cruises with Royal we've never done specialty (never felt the need). We still don't feel the need but just for fun we booked Chops Lunch, Jamie's lunch, and Wonderland dinner on our upcoming cruise on the Anthem in March. Maybe because I'm not used to getting on a ship when it's cold and need something else to balance that negative? Hmm...
  2. Now that’s a fantastic price. ETA Glad I saw your post. Looks like it is on sale for national pizza day. I just booked it for lunch on embarkation day for our March Anthem cruise. $100 for five people!.
  3. Agreed. I’m sure the picture was taken because it was so unusual. Some cruisers just don’t pay attention to dress attire for the particular nights. That picture sets a pretty low bar, but we all have seen it once in a while in the MDR.
  4. I'm just glad I don't like deserts in general. I normally skip desert and have a coffee instead. If anything I'd rather have another appetizer of some sort. 😆 Just not into rich sweet deserts.
  5. Thank you so much for this! I appreciate the note on the speed of the food. I'm guessing they have to go get it from one of the kitchens on the ship. Doubt they have their own kitchen at the pub. We'll make sure to place our ENTIRE order at one time so that we're not waiting between orders. My guess we'll try to do this night one or two of the cruise and if it disappoints, move on. Thanks again.
  6. Agree 100%. It all comes down to your individual situation and cruising style. Yeah, the cost for the Celebrity "drink, gratuity and WiFi package" can vary widely. We will also be elite on X in December on our 5 night cruise, but still decided to purchase the package. Why? 1) 5-7 pm is a horrible time for us to have drinks. We're at dinner at that time. 2) To upgrade to the package it was only $240 more per person (of which gratuities were $88 which we would have needed to pay anyway). That left the drink package and WiFi costing $152 per person for drinks and wifi which is a steal. HOWEVER, Our three kids in the connecting balcony, (of which only one is old enough to drink) for some reason would have had to pay over $700 per person for the package in their room. That is a total no go. Weird how X's pricing works sometimes.
  7. That's interesting. We've always experienced the same. If it holds 4, I can book it for 3. The restrictions always came in when it's a cabin that holds 3 or 4, but trying to book it for 2. That's what I was referring to, but by what you're saying it's even MORE restrictive than that not allowing 3 to book a room that holds 4. Hmm. We're a family of 5 so always always run into some of these issues with how we split the kids and my wife and I between cabins. If the ship doesn't fill, they will be forced to relax the restrictions. I'm guessing right now, because it's a new ship, they can be very restrictive because the demand is so high. They always relax restrictions as the cruise gets closer to final payment.
  8. Yeah, unless they want to pay the $85 for the additional 5. 🙂
  9. Royal will price it to fill the ship. If the prices are too high and they are having a tough time with occupancy they will be forced to reduce the price. Simple macro economics really. New ships are always high. That's why we typically wait a few years at least. Fortunately we love the Voyager and Freedom class ships (especially if they are amped) as well so we can find some nice prices there. Royal has such an amazing fleet there is no need to sail the newest and shiniest right away IMO.
  10. No worries. Thanks for clearing that up. I thought that might’ve been what happened but wasn’t sure. I do agree about the drink plan with NCL. I’m not sure everyone notices that it’s not truly “free”. Even with Celebrity now, it’s very obvious that there is extra cost when you choose the drink package because now it is bundled with the Wi-Fi and gratuities at a higher cruise fare that you have to intentionally choose during the booking. It’s either choose the bundle, or choose the “cruise only” price. At least that’s how it was for our upcoming Celebrity cruise on the Equinox in December. Honest question… Does Celebrity still run specials where the drink package is truly included? That is how it was for us back in 2017 on the Equinox if we booked a balcony or higher. I think their pricing strategy has changed since the though, to what I mentioned above.
  11. We're doing it in March on the Anthem. Kind of a Y.O.L.O. thing. We looked up some YouTube videos of the experience, and watched just enough to know that we would probably have a good time with it. If it's not our thing we just won't do it again.
  12. That’s only because you have to pay for gratuity upfront when you purchase a boost package so you do in fact pay for gratuity. I’m not aware of any cruises out of North America by Royal that includes a drink package.
  13. Happy to have Joff on the Anthem in March. He and his activities director did a great job on the Independence back in 2014. It's not often I remember our cruise directors, but the good ones stand out. (...and the particularly bad, of which there is one in that photo in post #630) Dan
  14. On sailings where I've had the drink package (X and NCL), I'm about drunked out by day 5 or 6 and am ready for a break from my vacation LOL.
  15. Yes, I think they accounted for it. What I find interesting, with more than 82% of all rooms onboard Icon of the Seas accommodating 3 or more guests, I have to imagine they will lift the restriction of not allowing parties of 2 to book these cabins. The ship has more potential for families with kids but that doesn't necessarily mean that we'll see a substantial shift that way on the sailings. We'll see
  16. We did a 5 night Holiday (Christmas) cruise last year on the NCL Getaway and did not notice an appreciable difference versus Royal. Also, Celebrity offers similar packages and we did a 7 night on the Equinox in mid summer out of Miami and didn't notice the drink package impact guest behavior. ...and before others comment on Celebrities demographics, it felt just like that of Royal. It did not feel skewed at all to an older crowd, perhaps because it was mid summer but there were lots of singles, families with kids...
  17. I just don't like when they tack it onto the first day, or last day of the cruise. I MUCH prefer having at least one sea day at the start, and preferably two sea days at the end of an itinerary. I'm not mentally prepared when it's day 1, and when it's the last day it's way too crammed considering you have to pack that evening. I do feel like it's overcrowded many days though, especially to your point, when you have a mega Oasis class ship with another large ship in port. There are days when you have an Oasis class and a Quantum Ultra class at port the same day! That's just too much. It took us 30 minutes just to find a lounger this past June when we were on the Allure docked with the Mariner. Granted it was 10:30 am by that time, but still, this is NEVER a problem at Labadee and the lovely Columbus Cove beach area and their loungers.
  18. Hmm, I don't know. Kitchens and staff are sized to the ship. We had consistent excellent food quality and service in the MDR on the Allure this past June, and that's the biggest class of cruise ship in the world. So it can be done. Regarding your comments on small ships. Are you saying small ships on Royal do it better than large ships on Royal? Or, are you referencing premium lines/ships like Cunard, QM2, Crystal. In that case of course you are going to get an upscale food experience, but has more to do with the price of your cruise than the size of the ship. Hard to delineate size of ship versus food quality because true premium lines don't have mega ships. The clientele base is smaller due to the cost and they couldn't fill them.
  19. That’s the only way that I have seen the ability to get them on the Anthem as well. I’ve never ordered room service during all of our cruises. I don’t really feel like eating in the room. Seems kind of weird to order chicken wings and have it brought to the room only to carry them down to another venue so you can enjoy where you were eating. The good thing is, I think there is just a single $8? service charge for room service, but you can order multiple items so you could get multiple helpings of wings.
  20. Thank you. I really really appreciate you doing that.! I am excited for these options
  21. The old menu when the Pubs on Anthem and Quantum were "Michael's Genuine Pub" they had... a jar of pickled vegetables, deviled eggs, hard boiled eggs on the Pub Board, and scotch eggs but alas no pickled eggs (which I love)
  22. Didn't even notice, just read right past it LOL.🤣 Regarding the menu, it will get the job done. I'm just happy to have those options. Would have LOVED chicken wings also but oh well. The soup, pretzel sticks and poutine are all right up my alley.
  23. Thanks. Yeah last cruise each evening the head water took her order for dinner the following evening (and even lunch the following day in the MDR if we were doing that on a sea day) Thanks for that. I'll have to remind my sister to provide the information about my niece pre-cruise.
