  1. It is possible to just turn up at the MDR without a reservation and be seated pretty quickly in my experience. I wouldn’t worry if you don’t or can’t reserve ahead of time
  2. They are no longer offered. The soft drink package is also no longer available.
  3. I did a Princess Lodges rail tour that was completely separate from my cruise and loved it. There was no bus travel nor were there lots of organized group excursions or planned meals. We could pick the excursions we wanted at each lodge or book something on our own. To me it was the best of all worlds - hotels, train tickets and transfers arranged, leave luggage outside your door each departure morning and find it in your room at the next destination but spend each day as you wish. To me, traveling every leg by train was way better than doing half by bus on a land tour. https://www.princesslodges.com/alaska-rail-tours/learn/ i chose this unescorted 6 night tour from Fairbanks to Anchorage and would highly recommend it. https://www.princesslodges.com/alaska-tours/itinerary-3ts/?from_search_query=dG91clR5cGU9ZXhwbG9yZXImc2VhcmNoT25seT0w#3TS
  4. Closed toe shoes and long pants were both mentioned.
  5. I thought it was well worth it. It wasn’t rushed and there was plenty of opportunity to talk with officers and ask questions. I liked seeing the laundry, trash and recycling, galley and storage of food and drink as much as the engine control room and bridge.
  6. On a full sailing Discovery Princess this week they were periodically announcing exactly how many passengers had not complied. It was over 2200 at the 90 minute mark and still close to 500 less than 30 minutes before sail away. I was astonished.
  7. I feel the same way. While I believe the people who say they love traditional dining for the opportunity to meet people, I don’t want to commit to eating dinner with the same strangers for 7- 14 nights. One really unpleasant experience was enough.
  8. Great answer! In my experience it is pretty easy to get the same table every night for a private party. If that’s what people mean when they say traditional dining, Princess does manage to deliver it most of the time. The concept of an assigned table for a group of strangers for the duration of a cruise is the only thing that is gone. I don’t think that it will ever return. It worked very easily in the days when the single MDR was the only option for dinner, but with the many choices on ships today it isn’t as practical.
  9. For my booking - 1:00. Princess transfers from airport in Rome have meeting times from 8am to 11am
  10. I don’t like the Crooners on Discovery either. I feel like I’m in a hotel lobby or the food court at a mall. A nice mall, but still a mall. I have the same issue with the Crown Grill Bar. I feel like it’s all too open to people walking through that space. It’s like sitting in a hotel lobby or a train station. Hoping the reports that Enchanted is getting a Vines and Sky is getting a Crooners are true.
  11. Here is the information you need https://www.princess.com/learn/faq/pre-cruise/what-to-pack-for-a-cruise/
  12. I remember those. Might have pinched a finger a few times playing with them
  13. There has been open play for a couple of hours once or twice a day this week. The times vary but usually at 9 or 10 each morning. You can see the schedule for your cruise in the Journey View activities timeline in the app. It might populate several weeks before sailing
  14. We’ve been on several Caribbean cruises in the last year and there were always enough men in tuxes or dinner jackets that you wouldn’t have felt like you stood out if you chose to dress formally. It’s less than in the UK, Europe or Asia, but there were always men in tuxedos.
  15. There are many, many reasons why I like Celebrity but the thing that sets them apart is their smoking policy. I wish all cruise lines would step into the 21st century and eliminate indoor smoking.
  16. On the Discovery this week they handed out cards at boarding showing which venues were open for lunch. The MDR was listed. Times may be changing.
  17. Dinners can be booked in the app bu it’s also possible to just turn up at the MDR. Shows cannot be reserved. Their travel summary will show how many formal nights are on their itinerary. It’s generally as below. They can see which nights will be formal in the Journey View activities timeline in the app by looking at which evenings show formal portraits available.
  18. Ship - Island Class Deck - Fiesta Cabin # - 502 Category - Oceanview Port/Starboard/Bow/Stern - Port, Midship Connects With Cabin # - n/a Accessible - no Quiet - some noise from chairs on Promenade Balcony Size - n/a View - very large window Privacy Issues - n/a Wind - n/a Soot - n/a Problems - none Comments - this cabin was a fantastic location on a hallway beside the Casino. There was no noise at all from the casino nor was there any smell of smoke. There was occasionally noise from the Promenade deck early, probably as they moved chairs to clean the deck. The window was very large and the ceiling higher than normal as this was formerly a publ space
  19. I saw it happen in December on two different evenings on the Sky Princess. My response is to the original poster whose brother-in-law only plans to wear shorts to dinner. I personally don’t care what he wears, but if he has no long pants he should be aware that he may not be able to eat in the MDR.
  20. Good Spirits at Sea has coffee drinks and pastries in the morning. There is also a coffee machine at the Casino Bar and in the buffet The Elite Lounge is in Explorers
  21. Just read back though this thread and see that a number of posters here have seen people turned away for trying to wear shorts in the dining room. If eating in the MDR is important to the original poster’s brother-in-law , the best thing to do is pack a pair of pants. You cannot be sure that the dress code won’t be enforced on his cruise.
  22. The restaurant manager may not feel it’s a suggestion. If a passenger wants to eat in the MDR they should be aware that they may be turned away if they choose to wear shorts. It is not fair to tell people that the the dress code won’t enforced unless you are going to be the person at the entrance making the decision.
