  1. Urban dictionary tells me that a cay is: the remainder of the green and smokable bud in a piece/joint. Perhaps, "Funday Cay" is named after that rather than a "key." (I kid. I kid.)
  2. I also wish they would just make the gratuities required for everyone. I would be willing to bet that most of the people removing their grats are the first or second time cruisers that Carnival seems to be so "targeting" as of late. I know zero "seasoned" cruisers who remove grats because regular cruisers have seen the crew work their behinds off and talked to enough of the crew to know how much this money means to them.
  3. If the trip there is the same, I would go on the Horizon because the Vista is older and keeps having propulsion issues.
  4. So, if we used OBC to purchase a wifi package and the cruise sails after the date of the price increase, does that mean that we get the lower rate or will we be charged at the higher rate?
  5. I feel like Carnival is turning into Allegiant airlines or one of those other airline that has cheap base fares but then anything extra (which you need) is $$$.
  6. I predict this means that they are going to be increasing drink packages and certain other items as well in the near future.
  7. The wifi on the older ships is crap and not worth this price at all.
  8. A suite is a little different. It at least has a little more room. Even a balcony wouldn't be too bad. But 4 or 5 people in a tiny inside room? No thanks.
  9. IDK, but God bless you who are putting 5 people in a cabin. The day I have to sleep 5 people (or even 4 adults) in a single cabin is the day that I stay home...or sleep on the deck.
  10. I have an FCC that is about $2500 more than what I have left owed on a booking. (FCC was for a suite and adjoining balcony and the new booking is 2 balconies because that is all we could get in adjoining rooms...hence the price difference.) If I apply that FCC, will the extra $2500 be converted to on-board credit? Or will I just lose that $2500? Obviously if I am going to lose that amount, I will not apply it to this booking (and just pay for the booking outright) and then will plan to apply the FCC to some other cruise that uses the full amount of the FCC. My FCC doesn't have an expiration date. Also, is there any rule against applying more than one "future cruise credit" to a booking so long as the guests are the same? Another question: Has anyone here actually been able to successfully use their on board credit to buy gift cards in the gift shop while on board?
  11. Off the top of my head, I think under 16 only needs a birth certificate so that solves the problem for your 15 year old. I do not know the answer to your question on the school ID, but just for "life" purposes, I would say that if the 16 and 17 year old do not get a driver's license soon that they need to at least go get a state issued ID if not a passport. I would be very hesitant to not have a kid of that age have some sort of photo ID even if it isn't a passport. It will be much easier to get a state issued ID than a passport. Since the school ID does not have an expiration date on it, I would think you would be ok if the CCL website says that they can sail with a school ID. However, if it says 2022-23 or something like that...who knows? FYI: If you are going to get them passports, you need to start now. The process is much more detailed and requires you to go in person with both parents (or provide a notarized affidavit if only one parent can go in person) to a center or certain post offices and when I got my kids their passports last year, they were backed up by months still from Covid. Some centers were so far backed up that they didn't even have appointment slots online--I am talking a 6 to 9 month wait just for an appointment.
  12. On his Facebook page. You just post a question and (usually) he or one of his helpers will answer it.
  13. There have been cut backs and problems among all forms of vacations. We were living in a hotel for awhile due to home renovations and couldn't even get our room cleaned or my trash picked up even ONCE the entire week...in a Hilton! And we were in the most expensive room in the hotel because we were basically living there with our family of 4. They only cleaned your room once a week. (At home, I clean my home more than once a week!) And this was in the last 12 months so not even when Covid was at its worst. I think customer service in general has gone in the toilet since Covid.
  14. I was once on the Vista when we were delayed like 12 hours getting back into port. People were calling and rescheduling their flights from the ship. This was before Covid, though, so I suspect rescheduling a flight was a bit easier. I once had to reschedule a flight due to a sick kid and the airlines just charged me a fee.
  15. Were you on the P&O Arvia or the Iona? My husband said they had some problems at Christmas.
  16. When I had a really bad cruise this past summer (my first that was just awful with Carnival) where there was a situation that was just truly unacceptable by anyone's measures , I emailed their president. It took about a month, but eventually they did get back with me and off a resolution. I would give them about a month to fully look into the situation and get back with you.
  17. No. I want to know if I will be able to check in early for B. I thought maybe it might show up AFTER I go on A.
  18. We did an Alaskan cruise with Carnival last year from Seattle and it was our favorite cruise! Loved it! We were on the Splendor, though. We are a family of four with two kids. We were glad we picked Carnival over the other line as I do think there is more to do on their ships than the smaller ships. Other ones in ports didn't appear to have slides, etc. when they were in port. I highly recommend a balcony for an Alaskan cruise.
  19. I would think yes, but my booking still has the regular check in date and not the earlier one. However, I still have one more cruise before that cruise so I suppose it might change after I take the cruise that increases my days. Alternatively can you can still show up at the first boarding time if you are platinum even if you have a later boarding time? I know that is the case for suites, but wasn't sure about platinum.
  20. Yes, I booked a rate that I can cancel up until two days before and I plan to do what you suggested and check back. Thank you for your response.
