  1. So … the Oceania slogan might more aptly be, “Our World, Our Way?”
  2. @hankandteri, it seems the quality and style of senior managements, in many industries, is increasingly paternalistic. Perhaps there have become more sheep, unaware of being fleeced. Many things have become Orwellian. I had hoped the cruise industry would be more resilient against this.
  3. Non sequitur. The manner of the announcement and follow up begs serious questions. With cruise lines seeking to recover from the impacts of the shutdowns, it seems plausible decisions formerly made by a ship’s staff might now be made by management on shore. If so, this is likely a slippery slope for success. It would affect staff who may have lost autonomy (a possible factor for how the captain made the announcement) and guests, especially those who are well travelled. Notwithstanding observations about the busyness of the ship’s future cruises office, thankfully there is increasing options available to travelers due to competition as several lines are expanding their fleets, almost as if said shutdowns never happened.
  4. We don’t cruise the way things are, we cruise the way we are.
  5. So . . . does this give Viking marketing another “no” to add their list?
  6. Head East, on their Flat as a Pancake album, got the title of their one hit wonder song wrong. It should have been Never Been Any Raison.
  7. It may have been a case of “I don’t think” by the design team or someone who overrode them. Or, perhaps they decided since many guests use smart devices to track fitness that we would be grateful for the extra steps!?! 😎
  8. Are the “terms and conditions” of this offer retroactive then?🤪
  9. If Regent is laying an egg, it might as well be a Fabergé one. 🙃
  10. Airlines and resorts are now receiving most of our our travel budget. The last time we cruised was exactly 4 years ago on the Mediterranean Odyssey itinerary. We had cruises booked for 2020 (cancelled by Viking) and 2021 (we cancelled). Our TA had difficulty getting Viking Air to book our requested business class flights. It wasn't until we threatened to cancel for a full refund (right up against the deadline) that Viking Air acquiesced. I don't enjoy the haggling and it really shouldn't be so difficult for the on ship and on shore services to compliment each other to produce truly memorable experiences for guests. Unfortunately it appears the onshore ops are every bit a challenging as before, but now there are reports from former Viking cheerleaders of slipping (sinking?) on ship standards. Slipping standards seems to be an issue across many lines in the small ship cruise line class, whether premium or luxury.
