  1. Not sure what you mean by “side by side same alcove.”  There are no “alcoves” relative to the cabins.  To see if a cabin is connecting there will be a black line linking the cabins.  Check out cabin number 1251 and 1253 and you’ll see the line.  The cabins you reference are not connecting.  To see bed placement see my instructions in post #8.  IMG_5913.thumb.png.7c87467c35e32ff380655d3dfc54c381.png

  2. It was more of an issue for me, probably, because I spend a lot of time in the cabin.  Journaling, looking out at the sea, napping…. If you were just sleeping in the cabin and either a sound sleeper or have ear plugs or a white noise machine (I had both) then you’ll probably be fine.  And maybe X has done some fixes!  And Beyond is a stunningly beautiful ship.

  3. We were in 7161 on Beyond last year.  Loud bangs throughout the day and night.  I had ear plugs and a white noise machine and just tried my best to ignore it.  But it was enough of a problem for me (light sleeper) that I decided never to sail on Beyond or the later ships.  I have sailed Edge and Apex with no problem…but maybe I was just lucky then…

  4. This is an area where people’s opinions vary.  Celebrity will allow shorts in the MDR on the first and last nights of a cruise because it is possible that your luggage did not arrive in time for your early dining time on the first night…and your dinner plans for the last night are late and you have already packed.  Some people take that to mean all men are allowed to wear shorts on those two nights.  IMHO it is really only designed to help people who do not have access to long pants those two evenings.  So my husband wears long pants to dinner on the last night and then we go back to our cabin where our suitcases are already 99% packed and he changes into the shorts he’ll wear for the trip home.  And then we go back out to a show or to listen to music.

As I was asked specifically by DJLDRUMS, I’ve answered.  But rest assured I do not feel it’s my responsibility to be the short police.  😁

  5. Minnie did not care for our TV selections last night…

nor did Diana for that matter…. She just sleeps with less wild abandon…

We’re going to a dinner party this evening.  Bringing Caesar salad, Italian bread and wine…it’s currently raining the proverbial cats and dogs.  I sure hope it stops by 6.  I do fine with a rain slicker…but not when my hands are full…

  6. Reflection’s Sky Lounge was cut in half and ceiling lowered to make room for suites on the forward port side.  Reflection’s pool deck was raised so it’s on the same deck as the Oceanview Cafe.  Reflection redid the Sunset Bar with a tiered seating area…moved the bar from against a wall to a free standing oval one with low stools (that light up in different colors at night)…and moved the stairway from the bar down to the OVC to behind a seating area.  IMHO that frees up more space for ocean gazing.  Reflection also has more cabins than Silhouette and the MDR often had longer waits at dinner in Select (without reservations.)

  7. I remember vividly the first time we saw Oasis.  We were at Costa Maya on a Celebrity ship and our cabin was port side so there was nothing next to us as we were docked facing the port.  When we exited the ship the gangway was on the starboard side.  As we walked out onto the pier…there Oasis was…completely blocking out the sun.  If you’re standing right next to her for the first time she is MASSIVE!!!  We shuddered and thought…we are never ever ever getting…on that ship!

But eventually our curiosity got the better of us.  We did sail her and were amazed at how well she was designed to break up the crowds.  Central Park was absolutely amazing.  There had never been anything like that before!

If you close those bifold doors, does that let the AC work with the outer window down?  Just curious if you could sit out there with the window down, and those doors closed so it would be somewhat like a traditional balcony.

No, the bi-fold doors being open or closed have no effect on the AC.  Window lowered any at all = no AC.  Trying to sit with the  bi-fold doors closed behind you will be somewhat cramped.  You really need to think of it as an oceanview cabin with a window that opens.  Obviously better sounding spin to call them Infinite Verandas versus Oceanview Window Cabins.

  9. @bobmacliberty The IV (infinite veranda) cabins are very subjective.  I love a real balcony as well but the main comparison to me is not just the IV issue but the Class of ship.  While it is true on the Edge Class that “real” balconies are scare…only options are port hole balconies, Sunset Verandas and $uites, the IV cabins are extremely nice.  As I don’t want to be in the sun I use the floor to ceiling glass air-conditioned space as my personal solarium.  The king size beds, multiple power outlets, modern decor are a feature of all cabins on Edge Class.

But to me the charm of Edge Class is the ships are magnificently beautiful.  Eden is an amazing space.  The rooftop garden is stunning.  Magic Carpet is unique.  Also, the four MDRs are a pleasure to try and offer more menu choices than M or S Class.  The theater design and production shows are very impressive.  (Oops, well, they are to a Celebrity cruiser; I realize Loyal Royals may be less impressed.)  The specialty restaurants are many and a nice change of pace.  (Personally I get fooded out after one day on a cruise and am perfectly content with the MDR.)

If I had to pick a favorite Celebrity ship it would be whichever S Class was sailing out of the nearest port.  But there’s a lot to love about the E Class.  Lastly sometimes the itinerary and traveling with friends is the more important factor.

And who could pass up being immortalized in video by Sea Dog?!

  10. @Sea Dog I just had Ken book the Ascent cruise for us!!  You are a bad influence…😎  We also watched the Herb Alpert documentary on your recommendation.  It was very interesting…he seems like such an honest, nice person…not to mention SO GOOD LOOKING!!!  However, very annoyed at having to watch it with ads.  I pay for Amazon Prime…I pay extra to have ad free Prime…but they ding me anyway!!
