We are boarding Viking Hervor in 2 hours. Have really enjoyed Basel, just taking in the sights with perfect weather absolutely no Covid restrictions here and we actually have Viking guests quarantining here post cruise except since no restrictions, not really quarantined! Yikes! hoping we have glorious weather the day we cruise the castles as shown above thanks for all the advice!

We are in Basel now, embark tomorrow. Masking is required on and off the boat, and I believe testing is still done daily. We did ask here what the Covid situation is and we were told “you dont wanna know”, so we are using common sense and masking where needed

We fly to Basel thru Frankfurt. We are fully vaccinated and boosted. Since we are technically entering Germany do we need to also provide a Covid test taken within 48 hours?

We are always “anxious” about the testing. We are a bit confused about flying thru Frankfurt on the way to Basel. We are fully vaccinated and boostered, but reading German requirements we may need 48 hour test to transfer thru Germany. Thats stricter than our Viking requirement. Anyone know if we need to provide negative test results to transfer thru Frankfurt?

That explains the 20-25 degree temperature drop that we see! Musta been one heckuva cold front! But tornado would be the last thing I would have suspected. Did our Covid testing today for our Monday flights…really excited now!

As we look ahead to next week and beyond for our trip it looks like more “normal” temps, not quite so warm as the past week, and a daily chance of rain. Can handle showers, just wont want those all day rain events.

Viking Basel to Amsterdam!

We are now 10 days out to our first River Cruise adventure on the Rhine and it looks like the weather forecast is much better than I expected. Current temps look nice and warm for this time of year, and if we can have mid to hi 70 degree days I will have a very happy wife!

Youre probably right but at same time This WC has been all over Europe and masking had been dropped recently….the River cruises were also scheduled to be maskless but that didnt last more than a week….no big deal!

We are ok with whatever is expected. The email said it included independent excursions too so I have no clue how they can expect to monitor everyone not under watchful eye. We will be careful as there does seem to be an increase here in the States. I just thought it was interesting the differences between Ocean/River. Interesting update on Covid Quite different vs River we embark in 2 weeks for the Rhine and were notified that masking will be required on and off the boat thru 5/29

Does any of your insurance cover medical out of country?

We just got same. I dont know how they expect to enforce on independent exploring.

We are seeing same for our Rhine cruise in 2 weeks. If I recall, Viking did an about face and extended mask wearing for an additional 2 weeks, I guess based on some of the positivity being found on board. Im thinking now its going to be a day to day decision. We have the mindset now we will just go with the flow, be careful, and enjoy cause we really look forward to our first adventure. We havent received our E-docs yet either…whats involved once we receive?

How have the shore excursion choices been?
