iv never said definitely yank.   but this feels more real, only 3 us ports and short cruises on the smaller ships as a trial run for a month.

you might not have said definitely but you jumped at all of the people looking at the CDC report and the environment when we said it wont be open for at least 100+ days. Told us we were doom and gloom because we read the report and felt it was the minimum amount of time before things got started.

I hope things start in August but I am NOT optimistic about this. I feel September might be the earliest. I'm not doom and gloom either. I'm just looking at the environment, know whats needed in order to sail with regards to people, staff, new procedures, ports and countries allowing the cruises and I think it might be further than August

    but I hope you're right

I would imagine the cruise lines would define what they consider a hot spot.

true but here is the issue

the states that are increasing are obviously hot spots (22 states)

the states that are not decreasing or increasing are not in remission and could be seen as a hot spot (15 states)

the states that are decreasing are places like NY and NJ and those are still looked at as hot spots

so where is remission? and how can they sail and say 40+ stated cant board

Is it in remission?  Some areas, yes.  Some areas, which were “hot spots”, not as much.  I can actually see cruise companies disallowing people who hail from the “hot sports” to sail.

    what defines hot spots?

22 states have the virus INCREASING

15 states have it staying the same

15 states and guam have it decreasing.. decreasing states include NY and NJ and Mass which are still considered hot spots

so what defines remission? the 15 states where its decreasing? that doesnt sound like a lot

(and Florida is staying the same, not decreasing)

no i didnt announce it every month,  may i had at 20 percent chance,  but i did think they would go june or july by the latest. so that i was wrong about, but those i argued with were saying not till 2021

as for carnival im talking southern ports only in the us.  they and ncl  have gotten money to keep them going. ncl has received 2 billion.

to be fair, you were arguing with me and all I was saying was 100 days due to the CDC. I never said 2021. I still love your optimism but I knew it wasnt going to happen until the 100 days were over and I knew they were not going to pull it back

The specter of bankruptcy has already been raised.  https://www.orlandosentinel.com/coronavirus/jobs-economy/os-bz-norwegian-cruise-line-holdings-sec-filing-concern-20200505-p5l5wcqz2je67bbbsnvxwcsqym-story.html

I would hope if it came to bankruptcy all those FCC would be honored.

if 'everyone' is allowed to get their money even though they agreed to an FCC, NCL could be out of business so you either agree to the terms you accepted and hope NCL gets through this or force NCL to go bankrupt...

  6. 8 minutes ago, Oakman58 said:

Personally I think everyone who has a FCC and wants a refund for the value of the FCC should be given it.  These are unusual times to say the least and exceptions to the rule should be made.  The company that makes the terms and conditions can also suspend or make exceptions to those terms and conditions.  I think the OP should be given a refund.  I wonder what those FCC's will be worth if NCLH declares bankruptcy.

so if I have an FCC from a year ago, I should be able to get a refund of the money? You realize how devastating that will be to NCL which is already struggling? I agree exceptions can be made in certain situations but in this case, I think if you chose to get an FCC, you are helping NCL stay in business and hopefully after all is said and done, you will cruise again

People are saying that its good customer service to give all their money back but in doing so, they run the risk of going out of business, customer service is moot

He's on their books with a FCC.  All NCL would have to do is give him the cash that the FCC is worth and in reality that's what they should do.

I swear the NCL cheerleaders would still stand behind NCL even if the company filed bankruptcy and negated al those FCC.

so how far back should they backdate the deal? a day? a month? 6 months? just curious so ALL the people can get in for this exception.... its a very very slippery slope

i wish i booked and went in march , to get it out of my system, but intead i booked april instead and missed out, my last cruise was in august of 2019. so a year possibly more without cruising has me wanting to go badly.

guess I got lucky.. went on one of the last cruises they sailed. Disembarked on 03/13, the day they stopped cruising... I was on the Grandeur and we definitely got luck we sailed under the circumstances

this video explains it well . and why its different then the other supposed start dates in may and june.

Its after the 100 days as was the minimum 'most' of us thought would happen. I am still doubtful but hopeful especially for you since you are as optimistic as they come. your prior predictions didnt come true... hopefully this one does

  10. you can only get the promotions that are available at the time you do them. if you decided to cancel a week before, you would have had to take the 75% penalty and that would not change. then you got a NEW promotion for the FCC and you JUMPED on it which means you were satisfied with that promotion. a NEW promotion came out for anyone that decided to wait that long however you agreed to the promotion of FCC. It was good enough of a promotion to take it when you did and subsequent promotions do not enter into this. you took the 'peace of mind' promotion for FCC credit.

While it feels like you missed out on further promotions, you were not entitled to them and should be happy you were made 'whole' by FCC.

You say in the title that NCL doesnt want your money but you have a FCC credit to go back on and if you want to spend it on NCL as you appear to , there is no difference between an FCC and a refund that sounds like you would put back in NCL anyway

I understand the frustration but you accepted what they were offering at the time

  11. You needed peace of mind before NCL cancelled and took NCL's peace of mind policy. You benefited because you did not have to pay any penalties and we made whole.

people who did not need peace of mind and waited for NCL to cancel got a different policy that had different outcomes.

I feel bad for the OP but its pretty clear at this point.

I would be bothered by this if I was the OP too but there is nothing that NCL did wrong in this case

  12. Personally, I don't think there will be cruises in NY in December. The problem is 2 fold. First NY is the center of all of this in the united states and they will take longer to clear up. Secondly, They are talking of the likelihood of a second wave in the fall...

both of those things make cruising in NY in December unlikely to me

well yes they could , but with things opening up , and covid flattening out that wouldnt be likelyand they are not predicting cases to rise  , unless it got worse in the next month  i cant see it extended .

you sorta hit the nail on the head... things are opening up .... TOO EARLY... there will be a rebound of the virus and it will spike again causing it to get worse , causing the CDC to extend... a rebound is going to happen if things continue to reopen too early

but in 3 months time from now the 100 days would be up anyway.,  but i think depending on how the covid is going, then i think there is a good chance they recend it by the end of june.

as fast as you think they can rescind it by the end of June... its just as likely that they extend it another 50+ days

probably would start with private island and bahamas and then any where they need the tourist dollars bad enough.

interesting article about their opinion of when cruises will start back up and they do mention the bahamas

    https://thepointsguy.com/guide/when-will-cruising-resume/

'Some major cruise destinations from the Bahamas to the South Pacific have been notably strict with their entry requirements since the coronavirus crisis began. They may be slow to open back up. Unlike the U.S., the Bahamas hasn’t even allowed its own citizens to return to the country during the crisis.'

thank you for a mature response, many have been harsh here at my optimism.    i booked an aug one with carnival as a backup.

its not your optimism people are harsh about. its your defiance in other threads that there is a possibility that it will be past June or July. You seem more amenable in this thread to the fact that it might not change in 40 or 60 days. No one minds people that are optimistic. but when they fight others that might not think exactly like them, people fight back.

I truly hope this passes as soon as possible and we all get to go on cruises again and things go back to normal (with better health safety measures in place). If cruises open responsibly and with the right precautions, I would be happy if they started in May but that's not currently in the cards

Optimism is great and you are a very optimistic person and you are not knocking anyone in this thread for other opinions. I hope you get to go on your next scheduled cruise.... We need things to reopen as soon as safely possible

    good luck my friend

i understand you all are doom and gloom. stop reading the headlines.  take it from an old sailor, this wave will pass.  i am not saying go about as normal. now, imsimply saing stay doing what your doing and in 40-60 days things could be different.

are you saying they are not in the biggest lockdown ever? what headline am I getting wrong? if the weather will slow it down... India should NOT be hurting their economy by locking down the country

what part am I missing? is india not hurting their economy by locking down the country? if this is not a big deal because the weather will slow it down, why is India hurting themselves?

'could be'.... true...    Probably will be... HIGHLY doubtful

india has 1.3 billion ppl,  lol  200 isnt too shabby when you you calculate the percentage of the population.   no i dont think it will kill the virus but i do think it will dimish the spread a bit.

you better call them ASAP.. they are in lockdown right now and they dont have to be because of the weather

the peak will pass at some point. and warm weather coming is in the cruises favor.  its already flattening out in some states.  im sure in 40-60 days there will be a deal made with the cdc, carnival already laid out there plan for social distancing and screening and limited cruises.

I hope you are not implying the warmer weather will kill the virus. India has 6,761 cases and 206 deaths... its 95 Degrees there

no i didnt put it because if they meet 1 or 2 3 is null.

they are NOT going to expire the public health emergency anytime soon...

they are NOT going to rescind this order. if anything, they will extend it past the 100 days.

The cruise industry needs to do A LOT of work if they are going to cruise again and it will take a VERY long to time implement and prove before cruising happens. IMO , 100 days is the LEAST its going to be.

if you google CDC 100 day order, you will find EVERY SINGLE professional link will state emphatically that it will be at least 100 days before cruising happens. what do you know that every single professional writer who's job it is interpret these things doesnt know? (this is coming from the left and the right so politics has nothing to do here)
