  1. Thanks for your posts of your day in Roatan and Costa Maya. We are also going to Cozumel but I haven't checked it yet to see if you posted there yet. We used your itinerary that you did in St. Croix on our cruiselast year and did most of what you did. It was the best day of our cruise.

  2. There is a little store at the pier right before you check in as you enter the building. It's on the left. The selection is decent. We had our taxi driver stop at a grocery store last cruise. Little better selection but next time we'll just get it at the store at the pier.

  3. What time of year is the cruise. Galveston rates are very seasonal. In the summer rates will be crazy even at flea bag motels. Winter rates are very cheap. Check Moody Gardens. They have a bunch of stuff on site for the kids and will have deals on room packages in the offseason

We are sailing 4/8/18 exactly one year from today.

  4. On April 1, 2017 our group of 6 traveled to Costa Maya on NCL Pearl. After reviewing the tours offered by other companies, we chose THE NATIVE CHOICE. It was a 15 minute walk from our ship to their office/pick up point (due to local port rules); but in the end it was WELL worth the hike....and after the tour they were allowed to drop us off very near our ship. Their price was great, the Ed and Ed team of driver and guide were excellent and we had a wonderful guided tour of the area as we drove to the Chacchoben Ruins. Our pre cruise communication was very excellent and our directions to their office was concise and easy to follow. The vehicle was new, clean, and cool!!! :) Bottled water was given (and greatly appreciated) during the tour! We could not have asked for a better tour guide....he gave us all the information that we could have wanted and answered all our questions thoroughly. It was a wonderful tour....I HIGHLY recommend!!

Thanks for your mini review. We are possibly looking into doing this on our upcoming cruise. Which ruins did you go to may I ask?

  5. Sea shells, starfish (unless you store it in your stateroom bathtub).

Bob, do you know the reason why shells are not permitted? We got some really nice ones on Bernard's tour the other year and they confiscated them when we got on ship. My six year old was devastated. I really had no idea they would be confiscated, guess I'm out of the loop.

  6. You will not regret booking that cabin. Just wish the Liberty was back in Florida so we could sail on her again. Enjoy the fantastic cabin.

Kind of wish we were sailing from FL as well. Don't know why we picked to sail from Galveston as I've heard it's more of a hassle but we like to try new things. Living north we have to fly either way. In 20 years I can move down there. Ha.

  7. LFK has several different beach areas and many have white Sandy beaches and all have some of the most beautiful turquoise water I've ever seen! One of the guides walked us around the island when we arrived and I saw a beach area I wanted to use and he told me how to get there. Turned out to be a grear spot not far from the horseback riding and we went by that area while I was on the ride so my group got to see me ride by. I don't know how to upload photos to this site but I have alot, including some of the horseback riding portion. I can send them to you if you want to give me an email.

Sure that would be great. Couldn't figure out how to instant message you my email address so I guess I can put it on here. It's geimans35@comcast.net

  8. When I was in Roatan this past July, we went to Little French Key and I did the add-on horseback ride for $25. Turned out to be a private ride and the guide took me all around one side of the island and into the ocean quite a ways out. The ride wasn't that long but was well worth the additional $25. I had the rest of the day to enjoy the island, kayaking, swimming & lounging in the shallower parts of the island. There is one or two rope swings as well. There are different prices for their various packages that range from reasonable to expensive depending on what you want to do. The horseback ride will be an additional $25. The guides will meet you right outside the port. Beautiful island and hope to go back someday!!!:D

Hey sportscruiser, thanks. I was actually doing some research tonight and saw this at Little French Key and thought that would be perfect. One question I have is how is the beach area at LFK? The rest of the place looked awesome but didn't see a white sandy beach with the turquoise water you usually see in the Caribbean.

  9. We are renting a car through Avis at Hobby when we arrive the day before our cruise. We're staying at the Fairfield Inn in Texas City. Planning to enjoy having a car for the evening to sight see and have dinner in Galveston. We'll drop our luggage at the port Sunday morning, then drive back to Texas City and return our rental car (across from hotel). We will either take Uber (if available) or taxi (quoted $40) to port. We're flying out the day we return and have booked Galveston Limo SUV to take four of us to Hobby. Hopefully it all works as planned!

Sounds like a good plan, we might do this. Have a fun cruise, I see you are leaving tomorrow. Also thanks to everybody else for posting.

  10. Which ship are you on? RCL?

If so, then look at Anthony's Key Resort or El Barrio Dorcas Rancho. AK is up in Sandy Bay so less crowded beach area. Barrio Dorcas is out of the West End. Not sure what route they take.

If on a Carnival Lines ship you'll dock at Mahogany Bay and Carnival ships have a horseback riding excursion from that location, or close by.

We are on Royal Caribbean Liberty of the Seas.

  11. Looking for something to do in Roatan. Was looking at possible horseback riding. My then 9 year old is not the best swimmer so snorkeling is out and didn't want to do an island tour. Anybody do any horseback riding here? What would you recommend?

  12. We booked a cruise not knowing that there was a group of democrats/liberals on board giving lectures and campaigning advice. I don't really care which side of politics people are on but this caused every mixed tables discussion to devolve into who was good for America and who was bad for America. It made the cruise less enjoyable.

My condolences, I think I would have jumped overboard.

  13. As Bob said you will see more Europeans out of San Juan but really not much difference. We've cruised seven times and three times have been out of San Juan. You get to see the deep southern caribbean islands. As the other poster said the Boatyard in Barbados is great. One of prettiest beaches and a great beach experience overall. It was $15 per person last April when we were there. That included a lounger, umbrella, 1 drink which could be alcoholic or not and a ride back to the ship. Adventure is a fabulous ship also.
