  1. The way I understood it was that drinks purchased on board while in U.S. waters are subject to taxes and then once in international waters, no further charges are incurred. I figured that with an Alaska cruise leaving from Washington that taxes would pretty much be charged most of the voyage considering the assumption that travel would still be in U.S. waters. On the other hand, not having the drink package I suppose would make the drinks more expensive over the week long trip
  2. On past cruises, I've used the beverage package for drinks and haven't had any extra charges except for drinks purchased on sail away while in US waters. I'm wondering if while cruising in Alaska if there's going to be taxes on each drink purchased for the duration of the cruise?
  3. I did a street view walk and it looked like there was sky bridge. Do I go over that and into the terminal? I was sort of looking for the entrance so that I know what to look for once I'm in the area.
  4. I'll be staying at an air BNB outside the city of Seattle so I'll be taking the bus into the city. The bus would drop me off at 3rd and Virginia. I've looked at the walking directions on Google maps and it seems like from that location to the pier is walkable but I wanted to confirm if that's the case. According to the street view, it looked like there was construction on one of the streets.
  5. I kind of have to wonder about OBC and why potentially it's not a good option to consider. Let's say you decide to book a last minute excursion or you know you might make some purchases onboard. Without the OBC those charges would be applied to the account with whatever card is used at check-in.. With the OBC though, those charges could be offset until you reach the end of the OBC. What about an unplanned specialty dining or an unplanned specialty event on the ship that requires an extra cost?
  6. Chocolate Cowboy was on the Prima cruise I went on last November. I always stopped by the Metropolitan bar regularly just to have a few drinks while he was working. He definitely provides a fun environment when he's working. I'm planning a Viva cruise maybe next year, so I'm hoping I'll see him again.
  7. So, I had been thinking about an OBC but after reading this topic, it seems like I should use points for statement credit. As for cabin upgrades, I'd love to do that but am concerned about the extra supplement charge. Currently booked for studio but I don't really think there's an upgrade that I could do without adding more cost (plus already inside of final payment timeframe).
  8. I attempted to clarify the self serve alcohol both on board and post cruise with NCL but never did get any information on this. I understand it's in the terms and conditions of the drink package, but honest question: what's the difference between swiping my card at the machine in the lounge vs handing it to a staff member at a bar? If I have the drink package then I won't be charged and if I don't have the drink package, then the cost of the drink is added to the on board account.
  9. This is exactly what I was trying to do, but was unsuccessful. I have the NCL credit card. Every purchase I make earns points. I have enough points for OBC. I wanted to use the OBC for excursions before sailing, but NCL wouldn't do it. I could only get OBC to use once on board, and by then, it might be too late to get the desired excursions. I now have to pay for excursions and then get a statement credit.
  10. I'm 50 points away from platinum. There was a behind the scenes tour that was showing up in the entertainment section of the NCL app. I understand space is limited, but really hoped that there was a way for just one more person to join. Guess I'll have to check with guest services.
  11. I maybe missed out on the behind the scenes tour for an upcoming cruise. Any chance that if I call NCL that 1 additional person could be added? Never had the chance for this tour on prior cruises.
  12. Any chance that NCL might have another show for Encore this year? Prima had Donna Summer and Noise Boys. I saw Choir of Man twice on the Escape. Wouldn't mind seeing them again, but then on the other hand, it would be great to see something new.
  13. @MagnoliaBlossom I understand what you're saying about the points process. For the upgrade though, the reason I say I'd be spending more is due to the single supplement that would most likely be applied to any cabin other than studio. I do recall other solos from my last cruise that had cabins other than solo but I think they may have also booked closer to sail date.
  14. So when I go to the NCL rewards points website, it provides a number to call to redeem the points. I called the number and the first thing the recording says is "did you know that you can redeem your points online through Bank of America?" I logged into the Bank of America app and the only two options are to redeem points are either a statement credit or a check corresponding to the point value My intent was to redeem points for on board credit and then use that credit due shore excursions instead of buying them now and paying with whatever card. Since I would have to wait until the last minute, that may not be the best option. For cabin upgrades, well, maybe that could be done ahead of time but then I'd probably end up paying more for a different cabin than the one I have now. Putting that and shore excursions aside, I don't know how else I can use my points other than applying then towards the monthly bill.
  15. According to NCL.com/world-points, points can be redeemed for things such as upgrades, on board credit, etc. I called the world points phone number and asked about obtaining on board credit to use for excursions. They said that could be done but I'd have to get my excursions once on board. I had hoped there was a way I could use the accumulated points, but it seems like the only thing I can use them for is for a monthly statement credit. There's a whole list of what the points can be redeemed for, but it seems like the whole list is setup to be used for redemption upon boarding. I guess I'll have to just purchase the excursions using the NCL card and just accumulate more points.
  16. I wanted to redeem accumulated points and use them as on board credit for shore excursions. With an Alaska cruise coming up in the second week of September, is there any risk of excursions being sold out? I guess I didn't understand that the whole points system is setup for on board only use It would appear that I can possibly redeem points to apply as a statement credit if I book excursions using the NCL card, but then that redemption method will redeem all the points. I had hoped to be able to use say $100 credit for shore excursions and then if anything was left over, use it as credit for dining or some other ship purchase.
  17. Not long after I booked my cruise, I went to NCL and made a list of excursions I was interested in at each port. I took a closer look at excursions in Juneau and found that everything I has on my list (such as salmon bake, bike and brew glacier tour) aren't listed anymore m so I'm assuming that I'm starting too late getting shore excursions booked. Is three anything within walking distance of the pier to do? Is it possible to do some of the excursions mentioned, but just not through NCL?
  18. I have the NCL card and was wondering if it was possible to use reward points to upgrade from a studio? Would there still be a single supplement charge for any cabin other than studio? What about instead of using points, if i were to check in with guest services upon boarding and ask about the possibility of an upgrade? Someone suggested this on the last cruise I did.
  19. The NCL website from what I've seen only shows prices for inside and above. Knowing now that the price difference is done via a FCC then considering I've already got an existing FCC to use within the next couple of years, I'm not sure if I need yet another one to use up in a certain period.
  20. I've got an Alaska cruise coming up in September. Final payment is due next week. When I last called NCL, prices hadn't changed yet. Since I don't seem to have a dedicated CC to speak with at NCL, not sure how I'll be able to find out if there is any price charge other than to periodically call and check. The last time I had a price reduction after final payment I got an OBC for the difference. Are FCC the way it's done now?
  21. I'm booked for a cruise in September and am wanting to stay on top of everything this time. As I did with my last cruise, I opted for a speciality restaurant (one night). I wanted to be able to book as early as possible to avoid possibly having to go to the same venue I went to last time. Right now, everything shows in the app as too early to book.
  22. That's kind of a tough decision. I sailed on prima last November. It takes a bit to get used to the layout and there's a bigger outdoor space. Haven't sailed on breakaway yet, but if you're looking for something less crowded then I would go with prima.
  23. I sailed on Prima back in November 2022. While the questions have been answered, already, Donna Summer and Noise Boys were the two shows offered. Both seemed to sell out before I got on board but I was still able to see the shows on standby. Indulge was free. I had seen the rumors about how that venue would start charging. Looking at sailing on Viva at some point (hope indulge will still be free). Mini golf was free and it's interesting to see that it's still free as of the end of February. It might be best to get to the mini golf right when it starts for the day so that you're not stuck behind large groups. I didn't experience the spa area. Maybe one of my future cruises, I'll check that out.
  24. Over the years that I've been cruising with NCL, I've typically had an NCL consultant to call with questions, rescheduling, or booking a new trip. Those consultants have come and gone from NCL. I got in contact with NCL before my last sailing on Prima to schedule what I thought would be my next cruise for April of this year. I ended up having to cancel. About a month or so ago, I got a call from the same consultant I spoke with previously informing me about a promo that NCL was offering. I spoke with the consultant for a while and booked my next trip. Once the confirmation was sent, I didn't hear from them again despite calling and leaving messages to ask about details on my current reservation. Just wondering if most here work with a travel agent or just call into NCL and speak with whoever to book or ask questions about their reservation.
  25. I was thinking the same, but what I read was that reservations are based on latitude levels. I hope there is a fair way of making reservations such that everyone can get reservations for the shows they want to see instead of having to rely on standby.
