  1. I think they got that idea from the Prinsendam although their layout is not quite the same. 😉 The Prinsendam’s NS all had a bathroom with sink, shower/bath and separated by a door, a separate toilet and sink. ideal for guests indeed 👍
  2. Hi Dot! I think cancelling your Volendam cruise is a wise decision - who knows how long that ship will be housing Ukrainian refugees? (I hope it is not that long but….) Your new cruises sound lovely and I will happily add them for you 🙂
  3. Glad someone had some success 👍 No more of this variety for me - any chili needing overwintering to bear fruit is a write off in my book 😉 Sorry to say - we weren’t on with you even though we went to Rouen in 2018 on our Rotterdam cruise. We were on the Prinsendam’s River Explorer cruise in 2019. Absolutely love it ♥️ I would certainly HOPE and EXPECT they would waive the service charge on quarantine cabins! Sheesh! Yikes on your rain and flooding, Gerry 😱 I saw pictures yesterday and just horrendous. Hope your home is safe. I sure hope that filling lasts a very long time - and certainly long after our cruise 🤞
  4. Really surprising and disappointing. 😢 😢 😢
  5. Oh NO. Your poor DH and Tana. My prayers for Tana continue and have added your DH 🙏🏻 @StLouisCruisers ditto. I hope tomorrow is finally freedom day 🤞
  6. Agree Terri, Rouen is not a cruise port however it is easily reachable from other cruise ports - like Le Havre - about an hour’s drive IIRC and well worth it.
  7. Thanks for the Tuesday Daily, Rich. Yay on Summer Solstice and summer 👍 Hopefully it clears up and we can celebrate the day outside here 🤞 I’ll pass on the other 2 days 😉 I love that quote from Shakespeare’s 12th Night ♥️ Ooh a white wine today - yay. Looking forward to hearing about it. We’ve been to Rouen a couple of times and adore the picturesque spot. Aside from the beauty, it’s full of history. Any Joan D’Arc fans will find the historic spot where she was burned at the stake. The Rose Line (remember the Da Vinci code?) really exists and the marker starts in Rouen. Really worth visiting at least once if not twice 👍 I’ll see if I can find some pics but this give an idea (the clock is amazing). I decided to try to get some stuff done on my list yesterday but one thing took much longer than I had planned. After hearing rave reviews from Jose’s BFF and wife, I decided it would be wise to make more jam. Since rhubarb is available and strawberries just came out - yup - rhubarb strawberry jam. New recipe & I had too much fruit. Talk about a close call when it hit the boiling stage: Looks like it has set already so I will be ‘forced’ to do a taste test today to make sure it is suitable for others 😉 I agree with Rich @richwmn - I wouldn’t go to Paris for a day. It deserves several days to explore. DH and I were lucky enough to go post cruise by train from Rotterdam and very much enjoyed our 5 day stay. Looks like it may clear up today - sure hope so, my contractor is coming today unless it rains (can’t work on electricity in the rain 😉). Like the rest of my life, my house has started to fall apart and needs some work. Prayers for everyone on the Care list & those that need them and a 🥂 to those on the Celebratory / Shout Out list. Have a good Tuesday everyone - a friend of mine posted this and truer words were never spoken. Enjoy every minute of your day today. Stay safe & please don’t forget your 😷 when / where needed.
  8. There’s no tax unless the ship is within waters where the port levies taxes. (Only applicable in certain spots). In international waters there is not tax. So, and $11 drink + 18% gratuity - just under $13 for a drink.
  9. Wow, I am surprised at this. That’s not like the Captain Van Eerten we have cruised with. (I am correct that you have Captain Rens Van Eerten, I believe). That’s disappointing. I thought you would have a great experience with him based on my past cruises.
  10. Have to say I agree with you - HAL’s laundry is a bargain (even if you don’t get free laundry 😉) and well done. Glad you are home safely. Hope you can manage through “great trip withdrawal”. Yay on the roof 👍 Good to hear. But DAM on the shelter manager & a staff member being positive. That’s going to make the shelter take a hit 😔. Hope it doesn’t add more work you you? 🤞 I don’t blame you for being tired and fear you are going to be a LOT more tired before the beach is done. 😔 😉. But, I’m sure you will have fun 🤞 Glad the medication should help. I hope your DH is feeling a LOT better soon 🤞 @dfishnot sure what happened to my quote of your new angel (aka niece). She is gorgeous and looks so alert. Whatever her name may be, welcome to the world, little princess 🙂
  11. We always preferred mid ship, too. DH didn’t like vibration and if the weather was not conducive on the verandah and you were hosting people, the regular SA’s are larger cabin wise for that. that’s why it’s good we have choices 👍 - Different strokes 😉
  12. If your OBC is from HAL (or the CCL stock credit) it is always non refundable. OBC from a TA is usually refundable. OBC you purchase yourself is always refundable. When you get on board, take a look at your preliminary statement. Any obc that has the wording similar to “not for use in the casino or cash” is non refundable obc. (The wording might change but you get the jist). OBC with no conditions listed next to it is refundable.
  13. I’ve always seen the Mariner discount simply posted as OBC with the words “loyalty” next to the credit.
  14. Thanks. LOL on your last sentence. i doubt the Front Desk would know either or worse, would give an answer that’s incorrect 😆 😂
  15. Interesting indeed. What ship was that Dave out of curiosity? I’m trying to figure out how it will work on my upcoming cruise. I have both refundable and non refundable and hoping as long as I don’t exceed the refundable I will be able to use it for the casino? Not sure how i’m going to be able to find out.
  16. Slight clarification. If the OBC is refundable (OBC you bought or from most TA’s) then yes, you can. If it’s from HAL - no you can’t. At least not on the ships I’ve been on and others who have reported here on CC. You USED to be able to but it seems the computer system has caught up. The machine will accept the card, OBC will be charged and then you will see a reversal a day later. When you look at your statement the OBC that can’t be used in the casino says “not for use in the casino” In the old days it didn’t matter - now it appears to. Definitely check first. YMMV
  17. Thanks for our Monday Daily, Rich. I like an ice cream soda but it’s way too damp and cold here for one today. We need some of that heat wave others are getting 😉 I am sure the mosquitoes will multiply with all this rain. As if they weren’t vicious enough this year in the garden 😬 Love bald eagles. They are rarely seen here but we did have a couple one year that liked my trees. Quite the treat. I wasn’t allowed to take the cats to work back in the day, but as long as a kennel wasn’t involved, they travelled beautifully in the car. They moved here with me in the car and took a few trips two provinces away. They loved the pampering they got and were very good. I like that quote today a lot. Love drumsticks but none on hand today. Late to the party today - a very early dentist appointment. Oh well, at least it’s over with 😉. I considered stopping a one of the garden centres on the way home to see if there were any sales - still closed. Just as well. I probably would have had my card declined like this: @dfish a new niece - how lovely and so exciting 👍 @StLouisCruisersI hope Tuesday yields better results for you 🤞 @Seasick Sailorthanks for your post yesterday. I was feeling like this yesterday 😉 Sadly, that dead horse is still being beaten. I’m ignoring and someday there will be a way to repay the courtesy 😉 👿 What an absolutely lovely post ♥️ Prayers for everyone on the Care list & for those that need them & a 🥂 to those on the Celebratory / Shout Out list. Have a great Monday everyone !!!! Stay safe & please don’t forget your 😷 when / where needed.
  18. DAM on your entertainment and the Gala dinner 😞 Hope it improves - FAST
  19. So sorry to hear this Melissa. My continued prayers for your DH’s nephew 🙏🏻. He’s in for a long haul, I fear 😔 Oh NO! So sorry to hear this, Sandi 😞. I hope today’s test clears you both from covid jail 🙏🏻 So sorry to hear this 😔 My continued prayers for Buddy 🙏🏻 So glad his sisters have medical expertise and could catch the problem and help Buddy 👍 I’m a bit late - sorry. A belated very happy birthday to Loren 🙂 Don’t worry about your current limited mobility. I’m sure your DH enjoyed every bite and enjoyed himself 👍 @richwmn love the new thread title. The old and the new combined 🙂
  20. Our CC friends are both headed to Northern scenery and sights. No matter which itinerary they have chosen, we hope they enjoy all the wondrous sights offered & have a great time in ports and on board their Blue Hulled Beauties. And, of course we wish them fair winds and smooth seas. Bon Voyage to Rotterdam - 14 day Voyage of the Midnight Sun: faerievert mr. godfredo Bon Voyage to Noordam - 14 day Double Denali: jimgev Bon Voyage everyone !!!!!! Have a great cruise and a WONDERFUL time !!!!!!
  21. Thanks for our Sunday Daily, Rich. A happy Father’s day to my father and dear husband in heaven and a very Happy Father’s Day to all of you! Juneteenth is a day I join in celebrating even though I live in Canada. I like today’s quote but will pass on chickpeas thanks 😉 It looks like another icky day out there. But, I’m going to try to accomplish something today whether it be inside or out. My plans for yesterday fell apart. Spent a few hours with Jose’s BFF and his wife. He loved the things I took and said I was acting on Jose’s behalf choosing so well. I felt happy at the time but, once I was home I was tired and sad. A part of grief, I guess. Not planning on any visits today so hopefully today I will get something done. @StLouisCruisersrest is good - it will help you both recover. Hoping you are out of covid jail soon 🤞 Prayers for everyone on the Care list & for those that need them and a 🥂 to those on the Celebratory list. Have a great Sunday & Father’s Day everyone !!! Stay safe & please don’t forget your 😷 when / where needed.
  22. Good choice if you had reactions 👍 I luckily had no reaction to my Pfizer’s vaccines other than a slightly sore arm - just like any other vaccine.
  23. There can be some rocking and rolling out of and coming back to San Diego. I don’t think it matters the time of year. When we went, despite the warnings, the way out was fine but on the way back as we were nearing San Diego could you could feel some motion of the ocean. No question if it happens you will ‘feel’ it more in the aft balcony. I did not find it bothersome but was mid ship not aft. You will be fine with this if you like TA’s. You will probably find more activities than on TA’s as well. For example on ours, we had an excellent lecturer (the room was packed) who talked about our ports, the history of the people, the culture and even pearls. All very well done. There were ladies from Hawaii teaching hula dancing, drum playing, etc. It was fun to watch even if you didn’t join in. no, you are not missing anything. The suite perks are not much other than more real estate unless you go to the high end ones. Frankly, on any cruise of this length on any ship, most of the demographic is going to be older due to the time required for the trip. There will certainly be some “younger” ones who can take that length of time off work but generally speaking the demographic will be older. Age is not the issue - it’s how young at heart they are 😉 I know this question has been answered for you (no self serve laundry) but I wanted to add that you can ask for your clothing to be washed in cold water and even dried in delicate. There is a comment part on the laundry order where you can indicate instructions. HAL’s laundry is a great deal (I’ve cruised on other lines and know what they charge) and it is VERY well done 👍
