  1. We did not expect to have to deal with a bankruptcy procedure. We did not expect to maybe receive only a fraction of our money. We did not expect not to get even the Us 2250 until now for one of our claims. And we are not able to cruise so often in two years to book 10 cruises with the new company to think we are recovering our money by spending larger amounts at increased prices. But you know what? We are tired to even be talking about it. So this is my last answer on this regard to you. I am moving on.
  2. If everything were so simple… my cruise price has increased in 30%. So not much of a good investment. And by the way, thinking that it was a good investment with the old Crystal, we ended up losing our money. We do not gamble. We have trusted once and it did not go well. We have learned…however this applies for us. Others might be willing to go under those deals. I wish them all the best.
  3. Interesting but a full payment one year in advance? With the previos experience from Old Crystal?
  4. Mein Schiff has cancelled today two itineraries in this region.
  5. Is there a possibility that they move you to another room?
  6. Thank you very much for starting this thread. I also hope that you do not experience rough seas often on this WC. Ivi
  7. I can tell you about my experience. My solo cabin was nice, well appointed and taken care from a wonderful cabin attendant and junior butler. Small closet but enough. The solo cabins come with a lower supplement. It is not zero but I think it is around 10 % of a double occupancy. I would have to look on my solo bookings to be able to tell you how much. The big disadvantages of the Solo cabins is that they are located forward and there is no balcony. Fortunately during my cruise the seas were smooth. I did not feel any ship movement. I do not know how this feels in case of rough seas. There are only few of those cabins available and they sell out very fast. I felt that the air could get very dry and heavy because there is no possibility of getting fresh air. I was able to get a small humidifier and this improved the quality of the air. I have opened the door quite often to get some air from outside the cabin. As a guest on those solo cabins you are in the lowest category posible for guests. I was not aware that this is the case until some one told me this onboard when I went to enquire about something. I have got a funny feeling never felt on any of my solo cruises because of this. For the perdiem you pay as a solo passenger on Crystal you could book a concierge cabin on Celebrity or a balcony suite with Explora or at least a veranda cabin in Azamara and Mein Schiff. At Crystal you have on board, access to everything that guests in the other categories have and it is not like on Cunard or those ships wit yacht concepts like MSC in which you do not have access if you did not pay for that category. I have heard that there is the possibility to book the cabins for double occupancy as a solo with solo supplements of about 50% (this would give you a better location, but still no balcony). At the moment I have booked my cruises, this was not possible. Unfortunately we are not able to benefit from the current three category upgrade offer unless we pay almost the price of another cruise. I wish the new Crystal would reinstate the policy of the old Crystal with the lower solo supplements in all categories. This is my wish thinking, but who knows… Now, I like Crystal very much and I cruise solo many times. I have booked those solo cabins because of the price and because of my willingness to sail on Crystal. I enjoyed my cruise and I am sure I will enjoy the following cruises. Ivi
  8. Amber 14, thank you for your nice review. I am glad you had such a beautiful time and nice experiences that made you feel like a VIP (the invitations from the Hotel Director and the Captain). I am sure your suite was beautiful appointed. I was on the same cruise with you and I agree with several of your observations. But as a solo passenger I did not have the suite experience you are describing. I just had the solo cabin and it did not include any VIP treatment. I had a very nice cruise also and this was not my first time with Crystal, so I knew more or less what to expect. I have enjoyed very much the itinerary. Some ports of call were new for me and I have liked specially the French ports of call very much. Crystal has very nice itineraries, so maybe your time will allow for you to book again with Crystal. Have a wonderful time with Regent. I have cruised with several cruise lines but never tried Regent because I am very independent and I like to explore the ports on my own. The concept of Regent of having the included excursions does not appeal to me. But I am sure you will also have a wonderful cruise. Ivi
  9. Sorry to hear about this. Are you in one of the solo cabins? If yes, how is your overall experience on that cabin and specially now with rough seas? Since this thread was intended only until February 3rd, maybe you or a fellow cruiser currently on board could start a new thread for the current sailing? That would be nice. Ivi
  10. Lovely picture. Have a good and safe trip home. Thank you for sharing your experiences 👍 Ivi
  11. Unfortunately it looks more difficult to flight directly to Quebec City if you are coming from Miami. No direct flights to Quebec City. Connecting flights only give you a little over an hour to make the connection, which it is nowadays very risky to book (you might make the connection if there is no delay but your luggage might not). The flights arrive late in the evening unless you take an 8.00 am flight from Miami (meaning you have to be at the airport at 5.00 am making the night before the flight stressful with little sleep). And arriving late in an unknown city is something we avoid to do. This is the reason why making a stop in Montreal and taking a couple of days to visit the city is easier than trying to fly to Quebec City on the same day.
  12. Thank you for your answer. I have looked at the web page of Via Rail and it appears that one can only bring a small bag that either fits under or over your seat. But for our cruise this is definitely not possible. We have to take one carry on and one piece of luggage each. How do people transport their luggage on Via Rail?
  13. Our cruise is living from Quebec City. We will be flying from Miami and I do not see any options than to fly to Montreal (YUL). Or to the YQB with one stop in YUL. What will you recommend is the best way to get to Quebec City? We like trains (not buses) but our experiences are trains in Europe. If possible we would like to take the train from Montreal to Quebec City after a stop in Montreal. Would you recommend to take the train? Are they reliable? Where to stay in Montreal close to the train station? How many days to plan for visiting Montreal? We do not speak French unfortunately 😔
  14. Is the funicular free of charge or how do you get the tickets?
  15. Voyager Radiance The big ships are my least favorites
  16. Some of us know what to do and do it consistently not only because ourselves but also because others. Others know what to do, are polite and care about others and just don’t remember or think about the importance of it (those are a large number and wouldn’t have a problem of being reminded). Others just don’t care, like the guy that came coughing into the elevator and when one passenger asked him if he couldn’t use a mask, he answered he wouldn’t because this was his vacation. Keith, we will have to disagree on this one but I have seen it successfully implemented in other cruise lines even in the times of the pandemic. I think it can be done without much effort or investment from Crystal. In any case I would suggest it and see what it happens. By the way another area which needs more attention at the moment ( or at least did it during my cruise) at Crystal is the cleaning of the public toilets. Ivi
  17. I have visited Puerto Vallarta many years ago with Oceania. I have liked that port. The below picture reminded me of Crystal at that time.
  18. Keith, in those cruise lines that allocate a crew member at the entrance of buffet they just have one at each door and this happens on peak hours, not the whole time. I have always encountered a waiter at the entrance of the buffet on Crystal. So they are already there. I do not think that additional staffing is necessary. When they increase health protocols at the cruise lines where I have experienced Noro, what they have done in addition, was to avoid that guests serve themselves. There were crew members serving and not allowing guests to touch the serving silverware. Ivi
  19. Mein Schiff, Royal, Celebrity and Silversea do it. But I think it is not the point that all do it or just some. Imho it would make sense to do it since many guests of cruiselines, luxury or not, do not seem to have very good hygiene habits. If you read this thread from the beginning, you will realize that there are comments pointing that out.
  20. During my cruise they were also those communications in the reflection about hand sanitation, etc but very few people paid attention to them. Even though there was a wash station before entering the Market Place the majority would just pass by without paying attention. I remember talking with the restaurant manager in a joking manner, pointing that I was probably one of the few washing hands before entering the Market Place. Once, I was sitting close to the entrance and to my dismay I saw someone picking his nose while entering the Market Place. I think that in this case Crystal can learn from other cruise lines placing one crew member at the entrance of the buffet to remind guests kindly but firmly, to wash wash their hands and sanitize before entering the buffet. This is done by other cruise lines for example Mein Schiff. Not only COVID is the problem. There are some funny respiratory diseases going around and the well known Noro is always a risk. Ivi
  21. Has Covid been reported on the current sailing or how was this information communicated? Ivi
  22. Thank you Rob for your summary of observations. I like your honesty and balance about what you are experiencing. Ivi
  23. I have traveled many times solo with Azamara and I have enjoyed it very much. You can be on your own or join others (solos or not). Azamara has sometimes solo discounts. The solo supplement has increased in the last year for many cruises. I hope Azamara makes more cruises available at lower solo supplements and shows that they are, and remain solo friendly. It has been nominated under best for solos in the current competition from USA today readers.
  24. How do you do that? You do the whole checking process online and everything and then you just arrive solo at the ship and say she couldn’t make it? Hasn’t Royal realized that you do this often?
  25. Crystal cruises will allow you to book designated solo cabins with a lower solo supplement. Everything included from gratuities to internet. It is more expensive than Royal but it is a luxury experience.
