  1. Hello everyone. I appreciate this board. I have MS and I do have a service dog. My obedience instructor did have me test her for CGC, CGC Advanced and CGC Urban as well as Therapy Dog to prove public access, aside from her task work. I would be lost without her at work but I am nervous to cruise with her. My husband is my "Service Human" when we cruise but should I ever travel without him I will need my dog. Has anyone ever worried about a vet emergency and lack of veterinary care at sea? I lost a puppy to GDV (bloat) once and I tend to be a worrier.
  2. If you will be cruising at least once a year, it may be better to buy your own scooter than rent one. Facebook Marketplace will usually have them at 1/2 the price of new.
  3. Are there any fellow travelers with MS who can handle the heat on Royal Carribean's private island, Coco Cay? Any tips and tricks? Last year I was drained walking in the sand and sitting out under an umbrella and we traveled in November. This year we're traveling a month earlier. I do have tickets for their Beach Club, but I am not sure they will allow me to stay in the restaurant area where there are solid floors and ceiling fans as they reserve those tables for lunch. That area I think would be the best for me with my disability. I am pretty new with my dx and any tips or tricks are appreciated. Thank you in advance.
  4. There are also handicap-accessible shuttles that do have a pull-out ramp if you are unable to do the step-up. Just let the attendant know while waiting to catch a shuttle at the ship.
  5. Are any of the Skipper's Grill or Snack Shacks handicap accessible without sinking in sand?
  6. Great job!!! I'm crocheting away myself. They will be Oasis on October 15.
  7. Thank you! We sail on her in October and are looking forward to it.
  8. Good to know! In 2018, on our first Anthem sailing, the only venue open for breakfast was the Windjammer, and it was sheer chaos. Our last two cruises we did get a good deal on The Key, and we really enjoyed the debarkation breakfast. Right now, The Key is more than what we want to spend for our Oasis cruise.
  9. Thank you everyone. It is good to know that we can get a sit-down breakfast on debarkation morning without purchasing The Key.
  10. We've never sailed on a ship of this size before. With over 6000 passengers, what are our options for breakfast before we disembark? Thanks in advance!
  11. I have my own scooter and I took it on a cruise for the first time in November. I drove it onboard myself. No problems at all. We always book a handicapped stateroom so there was room to drive it into our cabin. If you go to the Disabilities boards you can get some other feedback as well. On that board I did read that your Stateroom attendant can store and charge your scooter at night if you do not have an accessible room, but I do not know how true that is.
  12. We had a whole .02 in onboard credit left when we disembarked from our Anthem cruise thisp ast November and they did refund it to our credit card on file.
  13. THANK YOU - I experienced the same level of kindness and courtesy in November on our Anthem cruise. It was my first cruise using a scooter and, unfortunately, the way I must cruise in the future. People were kinder than when I cruised just using a cane. In years past, they would rush the elevator and make us wait for another, standing there with a cane. My scooter has given me freedoms I wouldn't be able to have otherwise with my disability. For that, I am so thankful.
  14. Please email me. I use the popular Google server. First part is shepherdquen @ <-- this is correct.
  15. We purchased the beach club on Black Friday and only because I am disabled. I can use my scooter on the paved areas and I hope that they will allow me to sit in a chair at the restaurant area to read my book and relax. Walking in the sand kills me and I can't get up out of a lounger.
  16. We've decorated our door for every cruise. Our large magnets hold up a photo of all our critters (we raise show dogs, have a couple cats and a whisker of a racehorse - no children). The large magnets were ordered on Vistaprint (prior to Etsy). The year we sailed on Halloween and I made cute, holiday magnet decorations, they were all stolen from our door.
  17. We sailed on the Anthem in 2017. We had an accessible OV on deck 3 while a friend had a solo cabin with a virtual balcony. She had a much better view of what was outside then we did with our window.
  18. I am enjoying your review very much. I am glad you enjoyed Wonderland - that was definitely our highlight of this ship when we were on her in 2017. And, thank you for the photos of your virtual balcony.
  19. I love following along. And thank you for the photos of accessibility. This year will be the first I will be traveling with my scooter due to MS. We're in an accessible virtual balcony in 3 weeks. Could you share some photos if possible? Thank you so much!
  20. I have MS and I use a cane for most daily activities, I use a rollator when I do activities where I cannot watch every step I take as I trip, and we did buy a scooter which I use for fairs, museums etc. Next month will be the first time I am taking it on a cruise. I know that even with the rollator I would be extremely uncomfortable walking these distances on a large ship. The rollator is staying home.
