  1. I noticed on the post cruise survey we received that there was a question about any outstanding crew/anyone to recognize.
  2. So what does “reputation” in CC mean? And anyone know what the “rare” is on some people’s avatar?
  3. Good Morning All, We have cloud cover for a while ( I think it’s marine layer) and we’re expecting a hot day today. We had clear skies for last night’s eclipse. The meal looks interesting. I’m wondering what an egg wrap is. Is it a thin omelette? Have a great day everyone!
  4. Good Morning All, We have a bit of a heat wave this weekend. It’s pretty hazy, and you can definitely smell smoke, especially on exhale, ( from the Coastal Fire- which is a good distance away) but interestingly, the SCAQMD says air quality is good. We’ve got some work in the yard to do today. The wildflowers (first wave) have pretty much gone to seed. Have a wire trellis to finish installing for the passion fruit. And there’s the garage that needs attention. Yesterday a friend and I went on a day trip up Route 66. We started at a favorite donut shop, (for their strawberry donut), did the museums in Barstow, then on to Calico. Have a great day everyone!
  5. Congratulations! I’ve never been carded at TJs, and I’m not that far from you. I didn’t even get carded when I went to Senior Hour at TJs on my 60th birthday. Nor when I went to Costco Senior hours. Target requires an ID from everyone and the cashier has to key it in when you purchase alcohol. So guess who needed to go to Target that same day?
  6. One article: https://www.smh.com.au/world/ring-of-lax-baggage-handlers-caught-in-one-of-the-largest-property-heists-in-airport-history-say-police-20140329-zqo85.html
  7. Here’s one of the machines in the airport in Buenos Aires (BsAs). They were located pre-security. After my first South America trip I talked about that with a friend from Peru. Her mother had flown from Lima to LAX and back, and on the return leg, she had several blouses and a coat taken from her checked bag. She didn’t unpack for awhile after returning, but did report it when she found out. At that time there was a ring working LAX in the LAN terminal. When I went for a second trip, I used packing cubes, and put then all in a heavy contractors bag, and sealed it with tape inside the bag. So if anything was tampered with, I would have a clue. This was also some protection from the elements. Also I got a slip on neoprene cover to cover the belly of my bag and a locking strap. While not totally protecting the bag, it at least “ hardened the target”. 😉 And it made it easy to spot.
  8. Theft deterrent. I asked the same thing after seeing many people using the machines in BsAs and Santiago airports. There were a number of young ladies soccer players who were flying domestically and they all had their luggage wrapped.
  9. Gee. 17 teens onboard- that seems significant to me, and like a pretty good showing. If only 3 or 4 were interested in participating, I could understand not planning anything. With a potential group of up to 17, it would be nice if they tried (as we move more towards “normal”. On our last cruise ( and previous ones) there were several activities that 15 or less pax attended, and they weren’t cancelled.
  10. So for those who got internet under HIA with 2 in a cabin, did it allow you to both connect simultaneously? I bought a plan, and in order for DH to use internet, he had to log into Navigator as me. Then bump my device off. He also was only able to see his account (shorex and expenses), while I saw both. The booking was under my name….
  11. That’s really cool that got back to him. Can you share a bit more about your book project? Is it about HAL, the Captain, or ?
  12. If bringing one’s own soda is that important, it sounds like Carnival might be a match made in heaven.
  13. About Naked Gardening Day- I’ll inform my husband. He’s out working on the slope now. He can use a little extra vitamin D from a natural source! @dfish Welcome home after the retreat from hell. That is totally outrageous! Back from our ride, and it was beautiful. Had a malfunction with my bike rack ( I forgot to put on the secondary tie down) and my bike bounced off and got wedged between the car and rack a few blocks from home. Thank God it didn’t happen on the freeway at 65 mph. So my bike is spending the remainder of the weekend in the shop.
  14. Good Morning All, Adding my welcome to @HELENPSL. What a lovely post. I was on your Zaandam sailing in 2018. You organized some great shorex. We have clouds now, sun expected later. Am heading off to meet up with my mountain bike group for our quarterly ride. We’re supposed to wear our New Jersey’s, so I hope it stays cool. Have a great day everyone!
  15. What about in cabins that have no fan in the bathroom? Is there still a vent? Our VB on Zuiderdam had no bathroom fan.😜
  16. From HAL’s website on CPP ”Trip cancellation protection is in effect once you activate enrollment by purchasing the plan, up to 24 hours prior to the start of your scheduled travel (sea, land and/or air) arrangements made by Holland America Line with CPP Standard, and up to the start of your scheduled travel with CPP Platinum. Other benefits and services provided with the Platinum Plan are effective once you depart on your trip.”
  17. Doesn’t the delay coverage only come into effect after the trip starts? I’m not sure what you are referring to is trip delay. It’s a change in plans pre-trip.
  18. We just uploaded a copy of the PDF our testing copy emailed us. It was simple.
  19. If you continue for now, maybe into early next week, she might read this thread. In which case, you’ve brought it up, and she picked it up ( the message/ question) and can decide/ clarify with you if and when she is ready.
  20. The Windows seminars are no longer available as HALs contract with Microsoft is no longer. So you can line them out. World of Le Vain is jewelry sales. Those items are also available at our local mall. Acupuncture seminars may provide you with some information, but they are geared towards sales of shipboard treatments. The lectures on shorex will focus on the available shore excursions at upcoming ports. Don’t expect a lecture on the port, and you won’t be disappointed. In the past, HAL had some excellent lectures about the ports, their history, what to do. Etc. that was apart from the shorex presentations. Shopping Ashore, you can pretty much expect to hear what stores are cruise line recommended (ie: Diamonds International, where to buy the tanzanite you absolutely need, etc.) No simple descriptions because they want you to come and find out.😉
  21. Many of those “activities” are ads for sales “events”/sales spiels. Such things as diamonds, expensive watches, purses, arch supports, etc.
  22. I think what Carol is referring to is tying the online person to their real world identity. CC is set up so we don’t share that publicly. Many members don’t share their identity. Some do, in detail. CC leaves it up to the individual as to what they share about themselves.
  23. We’re going to be in PV for the full weekend on Zuiderdam in a couple weeks. We might want to use a taxi. A couple questions please: 1) Generally, are the taxis safe? 2) Is there anything about the taxis we should be aware of? ( such as how to know they are official). 3) About how much should we expect to pay to go to old town?
