  1. My DH and I are going to San Diego for a conference and plan to drive in the day before. I had heard there is a beach that is good for snorkeling. It is a Wednesday. Does anyone have suggestions? We would want to rinse off sand and change somewhere afterwards.
  2. Good Morning All, So good to hear Kazu’s news on Shadow. @aliaschief Nice pictures. There was still quite a bit of snow when we toured the upper areas in your pictures. That was the end of June. Thanks for sharing. Its house cleaning day here. Oh joy! Have a great day everyone!
  3. @Quartzsite Cruiser Thank you for the recipe. I was just walking through Target doing Dad’s errands and getting the groceries we need that they carry, and the thought struck I should look for a recipe like this ( because I now have the ingredients, and it’s just too hot for heavy traditional shells with marinara.) And then I decided to just make the Daily’s infamous tomato pie. So later this week- veggie shells. (I took note to include a glass of wine😉. Just 1 small glass, as a regular pour takes me out.)
  4. 2013 A private tour through our rollcall that went to Ottway Sound for Penguins, lunch at Sotitos, the cemetery, plaza de armas, etc. 2018 we had a shorex set up ( I think with the same vendor, not sure) and they stood us up. So we got a cab and went to Nao Victoria, the cemetery and Shackletons Bar for lunch
  5. Good Morning All, Another hot day scheduled. It’s interesting that the evenings and early mornings are feeling like fall. Today’s agenda includes lunch with a childhood friend. @kazu So sorry to hear your news. You did all you could for Shadow. That rescue should be ashamed of themselves. @dfish The recipes sound great. Will try one for tonight, with a salad. DH really liked the shells you posted some 6 months ago. I really appreciate the time you take with the meal suggestions- so many times you have brought my interest back to cooking. Thanks. We got to see it several weeks ago in a local theater. I really enjoyed it. So creative. Will be back in a bit with Punta Arenas pictures. I’ve been twice ( Veendam and Zaandam).
  6. I’m not getting the purpose ( other than “window dressing) of requiring a “self test” prior to sailing. It wouldn’t be hard to skip it totally and report a negative result.
  7. In March, Sea of Cortes, a khaki fishing vest worked for one guy. I think he was in jeans, but not certain.
  8. And some of those drawers still have keys.
  9. Here’s the link, with more details towards the end. This lawsuit wreaks of opportunism to me. https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/families-of-4-killed-in-alaska-floatplane-crash-sue-holland-america-alleging-cruise-company-pressures-excursion-operators/?amp=1
  10. Good Morning All, Am just stunned over hearing about Shadow.😢 Things were starting to sound like Jacque would be having something good happen for her. @kazu sending hugs. Happy Birthday to Rich, our keeper of the Daily. Thank you for all your hard work and leadership. It’s clean the house day here. Have a great day everyone!
  11. Your report from today sounds a lot like the HAL of previous years, with maps being provided and scenic cruising. So good to hear. I’m really enjoying your reports.
  12. And now, once again, back to the main topic. Looking forward to Pete’s next post.
  13. Love it. I’d have the same sticker for the same duration, too, if it said “ my dog”. Or any suggestion to test again in another day or two? Sometimes Covid doesn’t show up as soon in the vaccinated. And of course, there are other things ( like flu) that go around too.
  14. Good Morning All, Another morning starting with intensive sun. Our pastor used today’s quote by CS Lewis a few weeks ago in his sermon. We’re studying Ecclesiastices. @smitty34877 Poor Tana! Getting the extra help sounds like a great idea. Hoping @kazu and Shadow are doing well. @dfish I copied one of the recipes and plan to make it on the Big Green Egg either today or tomorrow. Last night’s dinner was a variation of the fish in foil packets you posted a few days ago. I used fresh caught yellow tail a neighbor had given me and dabble on a couple of thin slices of butter, lime zest and juice and a tablespoon of frozen margarita. Served it with cold corn salad (roasted corn cut off the cob, red onion, diced red pepper, cilantro and radish with lime vinaigrette) and our home grown tomato slices. And a slushy margarita. Today’s agenda is to visit Dad, run by the post office and then do battle with my embroidery project. Have a great day everyone!
  15. Good Afternoon All, We currently have 95F out, and heading towards a hot weekend. Just did a number of errands, across a couple of counties, and now plan to sit down and sew. I jammed my sewing machine (again) yesterday, and had to go in for what I thought was going to be a repair. It turned out to be for a lesson on threading the disc. They are just very different, and a bit persnickety to thread. And I got signed up for an operators class in October. 😁I did the online one, but of course, the teacher didn’t see how I was holding the thread ( like for any older machine.), so I’ve been repeating the same maneuver and having an issue about 20% of the time. 🤨 I bought the machine during the early weeks of the strictest part of lockdown for Covid, so no demonstration was allowed. It was a newly released model, and few YouTube videos were available at that time. When lockdown eased, I did get the “sales” demonstration, so that helped. ( In fact, we completed the transaction in the ALLEY behind the shop (because “Essential” work had the front parking lot torn up, and only “essential” businesses were allowed to provide essential services or sell essential things. The Marshals Office was enforcing it.). I put my credit card and trade in machine on the folding table, and stepped away. The shop owner picked it up and brought out my new machine, placed it on the table, and stepped away. I then walked up to the table and carried off my new machine. This, for a $5K+ floor model machine. It turned out the power pack and foot pedal were forgotten, so the owner and I met in a parking lot🫣 in a less strict jurisdiction where we both JUST HAPPENED to be, and I got the missing pieces.) That’s an absolutely true story. So it’s been a productive day: Lab appointment for Dad, podiatrist for a shot in the foot, sewing machine dealer, drop off at upholstery store, market. I’m ready to put my foot up and sew a bit. I only have pictures from BsAs from my 2018 cruise on Zaandam to contribute. It was primarily for Iguazu Falls, but I added on the cruise. The not so lovely container dock where we were tied up. From a shorex to the Rio Delta Galleria Pacifico Mall, near my hotel Parrilla, ordered by a guy sitting near me. It was his first day in BsAs, on a business trip from the US. He didn’t “habla” and it was pretty obvious he didn’t understand what the waiter said when ordered. So I asked him if he wanted me to translate what the waiter had told him he ordered. Yep. Sausage(chorizo), blood sausage, kidneys, I think it was heart and tripe. His expression changed a bit, but he decided to stick with the order, and he ate it. My choice for dinner. Mate ( pronounce as (“maah tay”) gourds. I bought one of these gems. helados. In the US we know it as gelato. This started my hobby of making gelato and my love affair with the stuff. 95ACCEDE-D265-462D-8282-C7F1F2DF96AA.MOV Flight to Iguazu Have a great day everyone! 95ACCEDE-D265-462D-8282-C7F1F2DF96AA.MOV
  16. Good Morning All, Another warm day is planned for us by our local meteorologists. I guess we can at least be thankful for the humidity, as its keeps the fire danger lower. Will be heading out soon as I run cameras today at church. @dfish Thanks for the recipes. Am planning on trying your suggestion this week with some yellow tail a neighbor gave us. @Quartzsite Cruiser Little Veendam looks so- little. And lovely. I miss her. Adding a few pictures of local light houses: Have a great day everyone! Pt Loma Pt Fermin Piedra Blanca
  17. Good Morning All, We have more monsoonal cloud cover this morning. Yesterday it went “poof” in a mere few minutes while we were on our walk, and His Nibs decided it was time for a lay down strike. I’m surprised I was able to get him up and going again. At 115 lbs, he’s a cartload of dog. (I might have needed to borrow RNRs forklift). Tonight am getting together for dinner with a group of friends from work to celebrate 2 years of retirement. I call the group the agency’s “Alumni Association”. We all retired under a golden handshake program. @aliaschief Are you on your own or on an organized tour? I’m really enjoying the pictures and comments. Am hoping to make it to UK in the next couple of years. Have a great day everyone!
  18. Good Afternoon All, Our monsoonal clouds burned off early today, and it’s hot now. Am still planning on getting out on my bike. Haven’t done that in a while. Count me in as another TENS unit user. I bought mine online after my chiropractor got me started on it some 15 years ago. He used estim for most of his patients. He was a trainer for the Angels at the time. Some 40 years ago when I was doing my clinical rotation in med-surg, one of the surgeons prescribed TENS for all his abdominal surgery patients as they needed less pain medication. TENS doesn’t have to hurt. It can actually feel good. Dinner tonight is warmups of the infamous tomato pie ( remember that?) @kazu Does Shadow allow you to pet her? Have a great day, everyone!
  19. Good Morning All! We have clouds again, and they’re expected to burn off soon. With the monsoonal flow, we get thunderheads forming on what for us here is the horizon. So many times these past weeks I’ve looked at them and then went to the internet to see if there is a grass fire. Thankfully, so far, not. @kazu I’m so excited for you and Shadow. It sounds like a great match for both of you. @0106 Thanks for the recipes. I always wondered how they get the indentations on Conchas. I’ve copied the recipe and will try it soon. DH now loves Conchas. He became more aware of them on our cruise to México a few months ago, and was delighted when he discovered the “premium” panes dulces at our local Gonzalez Market. @richwmn Or “Dailyites Day” Am all packed for going to a conference later this week and weekend. We’ve (our circle of 4) been attending it as our “Ladies Weekend” for the past 29 or so years. For various “life change events” (as Selye would phrase it), everyone (but me) has dropped out, and so will be “solo” this year. With that and all the Covid changes, it will be interesting. Have a great day everyone!
