  1. Maybe it's changed but we cruised Alaska at least ten years ago and the ports were so crowded due to cruise ships that port time was pretty much ruined for us. The Canada/New England trips have always appealed and we'll hit them soon hopefully.
  2. It seems to have quieted down lately but the brouhaha over Simply More was astounding IMneverHO. And I will certainly keep in mind how O has handled things like the Red Sea. Operative words "keep in mind." And I'll be looking at SS and SB. We've been talking about spending our 'play money' on a single big thing so maybe that. We were actually booked on SS for Galapagos a couple of years ago but I had an accident that would have limited my off-ship activities.
  3. I booked them as quickly as I could. No problem. We've never done ship-sponsored excursions so we'll see. We're not hard to please.
  4. As do I. But I'm an info-junkie 🙂
  5. Oh, thank you so much for that reminder. We have a lot of ports coming up in July where we won't be doing excursions.
  6. We don't travel with one but the ones we have at home are plastic and fold up super well.
  7. We travel with what we call "lounge wear" a title that came from some elastic waist cotton pants and knit tee that my husband bought ages ago. Now it's just anything that we can change into when we go to our cabin. Keeps our real clothes cleaner and less wrinkled. We're pretty religious about this, even do it at home.
  8. But one can always put ties, tags, stickers, whatever.
  9. Maybe substitute "after many years of all sorts of travel including cruises." ?
  10. Surprised I miss this. I'm from the South and never had sweet tea. And when it started showing up, I tasted it and loathe it.
  11. Hold on. I don't confess this to many but I've never seen a single Star Trek!!!! I keep meaning. And I'm old as dirt 🙂
  12. And/or the expedition-type cruises (never knew that term before). Here's a photo of a house that you have to climb steep stairs and walk in. This is completely uninhabited except for a military family who spends one year there. This was a man, woman and two young'ish kids. We planned this trip two years ahead and, no, it wasn't inexpensive but was one of the best trips ever.
  13. My first accomplishment in my CotU will be to remove all bins for overhead containers on airplanes! And my plans for professional sports has brought my husband almost to tears 🙂
  14. No intl travel for us for about three years. But saved a lot of travel miles that way!
  15. I never ask "what do you or did you do for a living?" Rather what kind of work were you involved in?" I see/feel the difference there but perhaps others don't.
  16. I've long had a goal to be "Czarina of the Universe." I could add this.
  17. Exactly. Why not set up an out of the way table for passengers to leave those items with some kind of sign.
  18. How close do you get to shore? When we were there I remember seeing the "sail by" ships but I can't remember how far out. On our zodiak excursions we could almost touch the whales. The 'drivers' could clearly see things that we couldn't and they always left their engines idling so the whales knew we were there 🙂 Here's my favorite iceberg. The contrast is light was super.
  19. I've done things like that also. 🙂
  20. Probably not even born when I left there in the late 80s 🙂
  21. I used to work for QANTAS in their San Francisco headquarters. Pretty much pre-email. Talking to Sydney always took planning.
  22. We did the Denali trip in conjunction with a cruise quite a few years ago. Enjoyed it honestly more than the cruise. Ports overcrowded with tourists from ships. Did a portion of the Rocky Mountaineer trip, Vancouver to Jasper to Banff to Vancouver. Stayed nights in hotels so you didn't miss any sights while sleeping. Will never forget it.
