  1. I remember our very first Windstar cruise. We embarked in Rome (Civitavecchia), and it was raining. I fretted the whole way on the drive from Rome to Civitavecchia that morning because I knew we were going to be early, and I pictured us standing in the rain with our luggage. Well, no. There was a very nice enclosed waiting area with drinks, cookies, restrooms and plenty of seating to wait for 1:00 p.m. boarding time. I should have known.
  2. Petoonya, as r&d points out, on the sailing ships those forward cabins are pretty darn mid-ship. When I figured that out I booked a B cabin on the Spirit, very far forward (I think it was next-to-most-forward). We were very happy with it.
  3. Susiesan, Get a massage or two at the spa. That'll help chip away at the OBC. On one trip with Windstar we had so much OBC left on the last day, that my husband bought a $600 watch in one of the onboard shops. So, if you get desperate you can always buy a watch or some jewelry. Only if you're desperate though. :-)
  4. True, but in our case Windstar offset this with $50 pp onboard credit. Not sure if they routinely do this, but they did in our case. We saved a total of $950 by re-booking at a lower fare. So, a good deal indeed.
  5. We did the package and thought the no-hassle, seamlessness was worth it. I'm surprised that the airfare is more than if you booked it yourself. It's usually less. A sign of the times, no doubt.
  6. I would definitely avoid our winter months (December through March). It's not so much the rain, but the humidity that will kill you. While the temperature does not vary that much throughout the year, the humidity during their summer (our winter) makes it seem oh-so-much hotter. In July the extreme humidity is gone, but it can be windy. My favorite months: August and September The 11 day over the 7 day is a no-brainer! :-)
  7. That's because no one has posted an opinion about it yet. Perhaps you could do so upon your return.
  8. Yes, my husband and I took the Huahine motu picnic excursion thru Windstar. It was great fun. I honestly don't remember the pearl farm or the vanilla farm though. We got in on it at the last minute when our private motu picnic company didn't pick us up as promised and were pleasantly surprised at how much fun it turned out to be.
  9. Great review and an excellent road map for those taking this cruise in the future. Our 14 day back-to-back that included this itinerary was to depart this Saturday. 😞 If we should re-book it someday I will be consulting your review for ideas! Thanks!
  10. Yay! Thanks for letting us know you're OK!
  11. I too am a little conceerned about her. It is unusual for her to abruptly terminate her posts. Hoping to hear more from her soon.
  12. Ugh, we'll be in 136 at the end of March. Hope the stinky stairway issue is resolved by then.
  13. I had to google "Parrotheads." I thought maybe it was a school mascot and I could see when their spring break was! LOL. Not quite! Thanks so much for the input.
