  1. Have done two Christmas's and one New Year's on the Getaway. All werevere crowded with lots of large family groups. The ship was beautifully decorated. On Christmas Eve, the Senior Hotel Management went through the ship singing Christmas Carols ending with Sing Along in the Atrium. Christmas morning Santa Claus arrived with gifts for all the kids. Traditional Christmas dinner in the Main Dining Rooms. Peopl dressed up for Christmas Eve and Christmas Dinner. New Year's Eve there were parties all over the ship with a Countdown toward midnight. Very crowded and loud. Some people dressed for New Year's but many others did not. Would do another Christmas cruise in a heartbeat, not so sure about New Year's Eve.
  2. I can only tell you what happened on The Jewel last month. A passenger from Vancouver, British Columbia board The Jewel for a West Coast Alaskan cruise. The cruise ended in Vancouver on a Sunday as a Port of Call. Even though she lived in Vancouver, she was NOT ALLOWED to disembark until Monday morning. There is a long thread on this website about her adventure.
  3. No, you can not. Violation of the 1886 Passenger Vessel service Act. Jones Acct deals with cargo ships NOT passengers ships. If you did leave: (1) you would have to pay a fine, (2) NCL would have to pay a fine AND (3) the Captain of your cruise ship would have to pay a fine. Would that be worth it?
  4. According to Freestyle Dailies, I have seen posted so far--Splash is ONLY open for a couple of hours late afternoon and a couple more in the evenings.
  5. From postings I have seen Splash is somewhat open on some ships and not at all on few. Freestyle Dailies are saying Splash is open for a couple of hours late afternoon and another couple of hours in the evening.
  6. Thank you for the pictures of the Officer's. Lots of famililar faces.
  7. I am wondering who the Captain and Hotel General Manager are. The picture frame should have individual pictures of all the Senior Staff memebers-- position and home country. The Captain may be from Italy.
  8. Piano Bar--- Deck 6 Mid ship Could you post who the current Officers are when get a chance? There is a large picture frame just inside the door going spa (Off the pool deck) giving names and positions.
  9. They are on some ships BUT so far they are very limited hours 2-4 hours in the evenings. Fully operational NO. Due to the lack of qualified staffers, it still might be awhile before they are fully operational and it might be on a ship to ship, cruise by cruise basis.
  10. Small ships: Jewel Mega ships: Getaway
  11. It is called a Glow Party-- Neon colors plus white
  12. So Muster Stations are scattered around INSIDE The Spirit and Not OUTSIDE under your assigned lifeboat??
  13. Question: How is the Muster Drill done now? Last time I was on The spirit, you had to go outside and stand under your assigned life boat.
  14. in the last week or so, I have seen postings quoting both Mr. Del Rio and Mr. Sommer as saying both The Sun and The Spirit were going to experience re-deployments. Have not seen anything yet as to when or what the new itineraries would be.
  15. Do you know if they took the staircase out in the Spinnaker Lounge going down to the Bridge Viewing Room Window?
  16. For the last several weeks, the Pacific Northwest has been hit with very bad storms about 3 days-- heavy damaging wind, record breaking cold temeratures and record breaking rainfall amounts on almost a daily basis. Hopefully, finally, the Winter storms have ended.
  17. Splash is open on some ships now, however it is open for only a few hours in the evening and the child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. NO Drop Off as of yet.
  18. No fireworks. Parties all over the ship. Some people will dress for the occassion but many will not. Very crowded and noisy.
  19. When I flew from Seattle, Washington to London in January 2014, NCL booked me on British Airways nonstop.
  20. If you are talking about the Alaskan cruises, many of the Shore Excursion vendors have gone out of business as have many stores in the various port stops.
  21. It may just mean that you cannot prebook but can book once you are on board the ship. It has been that way since ships are running at reduced capacity.
  22. As a solo passenger, I never make reservations until on board ship. Most times, as a solo you do not need to make a reservation. Even at the Speciality restaurants, just go to the Hostess Desk and they will eat you.
