  1. He's my favorite cruise director. He's so engaged and enthusiastic. I have been on three sailings with him, and I've been impressed every time.
  2. If I were going somewhere scenic like Alaska, I'd pick Sapphire for the smaller size and far superior viewing areas. For a California coastal I'd go Discovery for the better amenities inside. Discovery does have some substantial differences in decor and venues from the early ships in the Royal class. The basic layout remains largely similar, but as the above poster said, Princess Live is way better, and the additional specialty restaurants are nice.
  3. Wow! That actually let me order the Medallion. Finally! Thank you!
  4. I'm booked on the last southbound Voyage of the Glaciers on Sapphire this year. I just checked my steakhouse booking on the app, and indeed it is now the Brazilian version. Waiting for reviews to come in, but considering canceling. I'm sailing solo and a Brazilian Steakhouse is really more conducive to a group experience.
  5. I have a similar situation. I'm on the last southbound Voyage of the Glaciers this year, and my flights got changed to 30 minutes between flights in Seattle. Obviously that's not going to work, but I can't change it online. The 800 number has been dreadful every time I've called. Multiple calls to resolve issues, long waits every time. I'm thinking of contacting their cruise vacation planner department, hoping they might be more helpful.
  6. That looks like a great sailing. I've been to both Halifax and St. John's. St John's is a really cool small city with a dramatic narrow harbor. I didn't sail in when I visited, but I'd want to be on deck coming and going. The Cape Spear lighthouse is worth a visit - the easternmost point of Canada is there. Halifax has a very walkable waterfront, as mentioned above. The Citadel is a historic fortification at the top of the hill, built to protect the harbor. I believe there is also a Titanic memorial site nearby, if that interests you.
  7. Tldr: not much difference. I would write off the port days as far as side of the ship is concerned. Instead, consider the travel days, which are north-south in direction. You'll have two traveling south, and one north on this itinerary. Do you prefer morning or afternoon sun on your balcony? If you prefer morning, pick the port side, which is to the left hand side of the vessel's forward motion. You'll get two sunrises and one sunset while going south. If you prefer afternoon, go starboard.
  8. I'm aboard the Regal now. Boarding was a matter of minutes. One of the best I've experienced. The transfer from IAH was another story, but that's another story. Great job all around at the port of Galveston.
  9. I'm finally on the bus, so I'll post here what I posted elsewhere: "I'm standing in baggage claim at IAH right now. The transfer setup is totally disorganized. One person is checking in multiple ships and lines, and I have seen nobody with a Princess sign at all. The passengers have figured out where they are supposed to check in by noticing the tags on baggage. They handed me a blue ticket once checked in and told me to just stand "over there." No estimate on departure time. Not much seating, even less information. Disney and Royal Caribbean have people down here to answer questions at let nervous travelers know that they're in the right place. An RCI rep is talking to a group of Princess passengers right now. Why doesn't Princess have anybody here? I'm a really easygoing traveler, but looking at the faces of fellow passengers this is a poor first impression." I've since heard from other passengers that there were problems getting passengers off of the Regal that delayed things. That's fine, things happen. The problem is no signage, no communication. I was told to be at baggage claim at 10am "where you will be met by a Princess representative." That simply didn't happen. Figured it out on my own, as did hundreds of other passengers who will board the Regal Princess with a lousy impression of what is to come. I travel a lot, I can deal with pretty much anything. This was altogether done poorly.

  11. I see Gavin Burke is playing in Crooners, he was a favorite of mine on the Ruby. You've also got Rob Raincock on board, who is a terrific naturalist. I loved his talks on the Royal last year.
  12. You've got naturalist Rob Raincock on board, who is excellent. I sailed out of San Francisco to Hawaii in January and really enjoyed his talks. I did the itinerary you're on in 2022. It's a good trip! Mazatlan was the highlight for me.
