  1. Thalys was the brand name of the France-Belgium-German and The Netherlands network of high speed trains based upon the French TGV trains. Thalys became the Eurostar brand somewhere in 2023. The European high speed train network never really gotten what it had to be, except for France and Germany with a decent network. It sill can compete with air travel on the shorter distances like the mentioned Amsterdam - Paris route. To buy tickets: Dutch Railways Nederlandse Spoorwegen International website, for international and international high speed trains: https://www.nsinternational.com/en Dutch Railways Nederlandse Spoorwegen domestic website: https://www.ns.nl/en To plan train travel: One of the better train journey planners for international train travel in Europe is the German Bahn: https://int.bahn.de/en
  2. Expecting a theme park within 5 minutes from the Rijksmuseum address, err.. that's a new one. I am sure you are not wanting to insult Amsterdam, a city that is centuries old and even an UNESCO site but the ignorant expectation if I may say is a bit insensitive towards our heritage.. Also for your own safety and comfort I would recommend not trying this question on the streets in Amsterdam, it will attract unwanted attention to you. I can't really tell or feel the vibe I am feeling with your posts but going by your username and I assume birth year (1992) I do hope you can "read" your surroundings, be informed and stay safe. I do hope you find something of your liking, other Dutch posters have given good suggestions.
  3. My suggestion (as in the other thread) would be the Oude Haven. The weather this month is perfect for an evening on one of the terraces, with a cold drink!
  4. Major Marine is excellent for a fjord tour! Or for an once in a lifetime do an air tour with glacier landing: https://www.sewardair.com/ with Joey. Alaska/Seward from a different perspective. Flying in between the mountains, spotting a whale below, over several glaciers and landing on the ice field with Joey's commentary and playlist I can't recommend this experience enough!
  5. Returning Visa Waiver applicants are allowed to use MPC, used it successfully in SEA last month.
  6. Leo #4 coming in in Venice, end of April. Fincantieri's hull's number is 6301, which sometimes gives a better result for searching the interwebs for scoops..
  7. Yeah, number 4 went into the dry dock a few weeks ago. I think the FB page of the Ormeggiatori Venezia had a photo of the block coming in.
  8. Whoa the negativity here.. I've found Tongass Trading Company very useful for buying our family some extra clothing and a new pair of flip flops for the pool deck when the Alaska weather was quite warm! So I, for one, appreciate having such a large store close to the ship and I support locally owned businesses. Talking about tacky souvenirs.. The China made wooden clog and tulip keychains sold here in The Netherlands probably fly IN as cargo on the same airplane as the people that buy them. It's part of the tourism industry, not so sure why one would be so aggressive about it. I am glad a locally owned business can make a living in Alaska and make some extra with souvenirs, running a business in Alaska is quite different from what I've seen and what I am used to in Europe in ways of logistics and challenges.
  9. We went with M&M Tours on the dock at the booths, I think it was $79 per person. Just the transport and park admission. We hoped for an taxi but they were insane with their fees, no Uber either. To answer my own question; I would not have missed Mendenhall because of Hubbard Glacier and a extensive 7.5 hour cruise in the Kenai fjords afterwards ($239 per person, lunch included). Plus an icefield landing, flying over the same Kenai fjords glaciers with Seward Air Tours which was truly one of the highlights of our cruise/vacation! Flying over the fjords, spotting wildlife and with Joey's commentary and playlist is an experience to recommend. I did enjoy the difference of Mendenhall but I would not call it a must.. But, if you have less glacier visits planned, yes go for it. On the other hand, forking out that much for just a bus trip and a few hours.. so if you have an extra day in Seward, DO book the fjords cruise with one of the companies there. You will catch up on anything that you may have missed on your Alaska cruise in the days before. We used Major Marine and stayed at the Harbor 360 hotel (both family owned and operated) and they were absolutely wonderful.
  10. One would think so but not on Cruise Critic, unfortunately. We were alongside Bliss/you in Sitka, Bliss had just docked and lowered her gangway and there as a constant avalanche of humans on that dock towards the port buildings while we were trying to get back to Summit after an excursion. We were too early for salmon spawning but this was what it will be hehe!
  11. Aqua is only getting a drop slide on port side, I never realized that until now. I am getting old..
  12. I noticed they also painted the lifeboats orange, where is this going?
  13. As said above. Lots of places in Greece close down after summer/early fall, be aware of that.
  14. In embarkation port: "Will this tugboat be under my balcony all cruise long?"
  15. Don't count on getting any messages. CC does not have a PM system.
  16. Your port of call in Amsterdam will be hot! We're getting our first week of summer after lots of rain.. Amsterdam will be out and about, full bar and restaurant patios, the canals full with small boats, very vibrant!
  17. Both answers above are the same spot. Google Maps: https://maps.app.goo.gl/6nBvRLFjF4pkVKd37 The naturalist on board pointed it out, we saw no whales but it was a very scenic (but brief) passage. Spotted some other sea life and eagles but I see why it would be a good whale watching spot. Good to be on out on the deck after dinner in between Ketchikan and Juneau indeed!
  18. Did not see it applied on June 7-14th on the Summit with a beverage package, now I am sure we ordered any drinks within that 3 mile limit or in port during the cruise.. did read about it once in a daily, no signage on the bar though.
  19. I agree completely, I subscribed, never got one email so I rely on this thread too
  20. If only we could keep this thread down to PUP links I would subscribe for daily email notifications..
