I tried to delete this post that I originally created since I think I got the picture of how people feel about it. I just do not know how to remove it. So to all those who responded...thank you for your input. FYI to some.....I am going on this cruise. My son may or may not. He asked us to go and is not trying to avoid being on vacation with us. He is generally not a paronoid person so he does not need any therapy...he is just like you and I who may or may not be seeing some of the misleading media news that makes you wonder if the world is ending but it really is not. We all know how that goes. I have a feeling my son will still cruise with us and if not we will all survive it.

Thanks Bird...I am going to rely all this to my son who may not really know all these important details. Perhaps it will ease his mind knowing that the cruise ship industry takes threats very seriousely. I also hope who ever is watching for any signs of it that they are on the ball and their intel. It's something we all count on.

This kid is 54 years old and he was the one who ask us to go.........so there goes that theory.

OMG! You are kidding right? He has no problem going on this cruise with us....he is the one who asked us to go in the first place. You are creating a tremendous theory about someone you don't even know.

Well...my son is a musician in a band and they travel by plane but car mostly all over the country and his shows are in various large venues. He is not held up at home in fear. People make a lot of assumptions out of one situation. As for the news....the lack of "facts" and twisted bias reporting is what gives me pause. We have no idea what the truth is and that in itself makes things worse.

They were the ones who initially asked us to go...........so NO they have no problem going with us.

They live in Boulder Creek high in a mountain but not far from Santa Cruz...about 30 minutes away. Yes, it was a very tramatic experience for so many people. When my brother got home that day and saw his house down on the ground, he paniced and didn't know where his wife was, fearing she was somewhere in the rubble. He searched everywhere and finally found her down by the stream sitting by herself shaking and shaking. She couldn't even talk. He was sooo relieved but really concerned about her. She was in total shock. He worked for IBM at the time and they took care of all the people who were affected. They were given a trailor to live in with all the supplies they needed to get by until the remains of their house were carted away and a new house was built. This took well over a year. Terrible time, but they survived!

My brother and his wife lost the home they personally built in that earthquake. His wife was home and the home came down while she was in it. She got out just in time. My brother was coming home from work and just missed that overpass collapsing....both of them very tramatized for years but my brother got over it. His wife developed a lot of fears from it unfortunately. They did rebuild on the same property with high tech earthquake features. They live on the top of a mountain on 5 acres of beautiful land so I don't blame them for rebuilding there.

I wonder if cruise ships are prepared for a terroist attack? Pirates are one thing but a planned out terroist attack could be a larger threat to deal with in the middle of the ocean.

Thanks for pointing all that out. I forgot about some of it but I doubt my son has. He has a photographic memory...nothing leaves his brain. LOL. So the question will continue to remain will he or won't he risk it? I do think it's unlikely they pick our ship to demonstrate their anger against the Jews or the US. I agree. Thanks for sharing that about the head of Morgan Stanley's escape drills. I did'nt know that. Brave man and a true hero. I personally think we will be fine. My son really wants to go and not let his thoughts rule the day so we shall see what decision he and his girl make. I'd really like to enjoy this cruise with them. At my age I want to savor the memorable times.

That said....I did say I was still going regardless. It is my son who is much more concerned. And yes, we are all concerned about the mass shootings that can happen anywhere. I don't think I can pick what I am more concerned about anymore because every day there's something new. If I turn off the news I can maybe live with a false sense of security but I tend to be a control freak and need to know what's going on around me. I will enjoy my cruise and simply pray I don't get sea sick.

Thanks to those who responded. I was simply trying to get another viewpoint on the subject. I don't need a lecture on how silly it seems. I understand the "overly fearful" issue. That said, when you have had people you care about die in the towers on 9-11 it brings terror to your doorstep and you don't forget it easily. I don't think everyone who lived through all that lives in fear but I do think many see the world differently than others. Sad of course....that said, I will still be going. Not sure about my son and his girlfriend.

We have a cruise booked for June on Joy out of NYC. My son and his girlfriend are booked as well. My son just told me that he and his girlfriend are considering canceling the cruise due to all the war issues and threats to the US from the terrorist. Apparently there is some warning from the FBI that an attact to the US is a real possibility. My son is afraid that a cruise ship is a huge target of thousands of people. He is very on the fence about going to any large gatherings and on the cruise ship for the time being. Personally we are up in age and not as concerned....but maybe just a wee bit. How does everyone else feel about the currant state of affairs and our safety???

It was a 4th of july special that did not last long. We have a Penthouse Suite so our bonuse was more but my son has a balcony and he got $200 I think.

Because I thought it would be a "price adjustment" not a rebooking. I would have never wanted to "rebook". Most people have bonuses attached to their booking so why would anyone want to do this? I guess if the bonus is less than the price adjustment but not in our case.

Actually the $400 OBC I got was a NCL 4th of July promotion so it wasn't my TA it was NCL who would not allow me to take that promo with me if I got a price adjustment. It's no biggy at this point. But thanks for your response!

I just called out TA because I noticed that the cruise we booked went down in price ($394). So I asked about a price adjustment. She was willing to call NCL to do that but told me I'd lose some of my promotion money. I have a $100 onboard credit and a 4th of July promotion of $400 on board credit. She said I'd end up losing not gaining if I wanted the price adjustment. Another words you don't take your original promotions with you unless they are offering them today, the day of the adjustment. I could call NCL to confirm that but frankly I just spent 30 minutes on hold and don't want to do that again. So I'm asking here if our TA is correct. You can lose your promotions with price adjustments?

My question is...Why would anyone want to go there during this war?

Well they didn't say they got burned by it....they just didn't like it that hot. Ridiculous....the time it took to go get another one that soup would have been just the right temp.
