  1. Another issue here--with the Silver Explorer leaving the SS fleet next year, without adding the Endeavor--what (if anything) will replace it in Antarctica, the Kimberley etc.? SS has already shifted from the Explorer to the Cloud beginning November 2023 for the Antarctica fly/cruise packages.
  2. That is precisely what many people I know are thinking, especially because relatively few cruises are currently selling out well in advance. If not ensuring a top suite or another particular stateroom on a ship works for you, there is no compelling reason to have to accept a non-refundable deposit many months before final payment date.
  3. Have you looked at SFO-MIA-SCL and back? The MIA-SCL-MIA flights leave late at night and arrive early in the morning, so you may not need overnight layovers in Miami.
  4. Here's an article on the acquisition: https://thepointsguy.com/news/crystal-cruises-ships-bought-restart/
  5. In addition to the great advice from carefreecruise, keep in mind when you try the parka on that you will be wearing various layers underneath it much of the time--so it may actually need to be a larger size that what you usually wear--I needed the next larger size up for that reason.
  6. An interesting idea--thanks. The only downside other than the increased cost is that we don't sleep well on trains, and that's 3 nights instead of 2. In any event, the Ghan's website shows "sold out" in both directions 14 months from now--I'll have to keep checking, find availablity for a package deal or see if there's a waitlist.
  7. We are going there on the Explorer in June '23, but we will book our own flights to add pre and post cruise land trips as was suggested, flying RT from LAX or DFW to either MEL or SYD and then on to Darwin or taking the Ghan train there from Adelaide (our cruise is Darwin-Darwin). Those flights are nonstop and are much more available and easier to get with awards, at least Premium Economy.
  8. Whomever wrote that was using one of these:
  9. Jack--thanks for your great report. How did disembarkation go after your 6:30 AM arrival in Brooklyn? What time were you able to get off the ship and get transport (and what method did you use)? Thanks.
