If I can purchase the pkg up to the final 2 days ... I can USE the drink pkg for 5 days and SEE if I am spending less than or more than the 50 bucks a day it costs ...if I'm over ... I can PURCHASE the pkg and they will charge me for the 7 days and wipe out all individual drink purchases on my account ???

does this sould right ???

Hello, folks.

[some of you have seen earlier versions of this message, but it has always been posted previously as a reply within a thread started by another person. I decided today to use this message to start a new thread for a couple of reasons, but especially because of "enhancements" that I have made here and there -- made in part because of suggestions by some of you. Various "no-extra-charge," non-alcoholic beverages have been added. Also the list of wines available by the glass now has notations showing which can be ordered in the main dining rooms. Thank you.]

In order to help you decide whether or not a Celebrity beverage package would be "worth it" to you, you need to know what will be available and at what price per glass.

Here is a series of lists of the various kinds of beverages found on 2010 menus aboard the Solstice. (I presume that the same/similar menus will be found aboard Equinox, etc. -- but I cannot guarantee it!) Photos of the Solstice menus are on the Internet and have been linked by other CC members in the recent past. I copied all this info from those dozens of photos. The numbers after the items' names are the prices in dollars.

Thanks so much! Am I overlooking the cost of the NON-alcoholic frozen drinks? I believe there is a package for it so would like to compare. Mr. Ski doesn't drink alcohol (except for a SIP of wine at dinner just so I'm not drinking alone at the table...LOL). He does enjoy the frozen drinks though without the alcohol.

Can someone clarify what is meant by "premium drink package?" I've never done this before so I'm a little confused as to exactly what this means. :o

For example: Let's assume that a "premium drink package" I might purchase would cost $200 each for my hubby and me. Does that mean that once we've purchased drinks that would total $200 each, we would then have to pay additionally for drinks?

Or ... does this same $200 each mean unlimited drinks of our choice for the entire 7-day cruise?

If we decided to get a bottle of wine with dinner for our anniversary (as opposed to individual drinks that night), is that bottle included in our $200 purchase or is it extra?

The reason I'm asking is that there are so many different drinks that I might like to try but if I don't like it, I could get something else instead.

Thanks in advance.

No. :)

Yes - with some limited exceptions (e.g.-anything priced over $12 is not included, nor drinks in your cabin mini-bar and via room service).

That would be extra.

The reason I'm asking is that there are so many different drinks that I might like to try but if I don't like it, I could get something else instead.

And that's a huge advantage of the package. :)

Thanks, Jobeth, this is very helpful. We will probably try this. I don't want to give the impression that I'm a "lush" but I'm tired of ordering the same drinks all the time (Pina Colada, Bahama Mama, Strawberry Dacquiri) and would love to try something different. But, if I didn't like that "something different", I could try "something else."

I don't suppose the cruise lines make any money on people who can "hold their liquor." (Me? Two glasses of wine, I'm all giggles and my hubby is "out of luck!!)

Hello, "skiiergirl."

I see that you -- yikes!!! -- copied my entire opening post into your message, with its long list of beverages. When you "quote" a message, you don't have to show the entire thing. You can use "block deletion" to get rid of 99% of it, if you wish to save storage bytes and spare readers the need to scroll past what is irrelevant.

All right, now, with that comment out of the way ...

You asked about "NON-alcoholic frozen drinks." Although the list of beverages in the opening post was long, it was not "exhaustive." It showed all the drinks that I had been able to find (on published bar menus and wine lists) at the time of my posting. Since then, I have located additional menus/lists on the Internet, so the opening posts' list has twice been enhanced quite significantly.

Included in the "new material" are the following additional non-alcoholic beverages, which may provide at least a partial answer to your question:

Cranberry Juice 0.0

Grape Juice 0.0

Strawberry Banana Soda 4.0

Peach Sangria 4.0

Sparkling Mint Lemonade 4.0

Carrot & Cranberry Cocktail 4.0

Watermelon Tropic 4.0

Smoothies [all 4.5 at the AquaSpa Cafe]:

-- "Longevity"

-- "Ageless"

-- "24-Carrot Gold"

-- "Energize"

Just a clarification-if I have a beverage package can I get bottled waters in the main dining room with my dinner?

Yes, "FritzG."

In fact, when you are having dinner, you can order BOTH bottled water AND a second beverage (e.g., wine or special coffee or liqueur).

This is the only situation in which you can order two things simultaneously with a single beverage package.

This is my first post on this forum. We just signed up for our first cruise EVER! It will be next June sailing from Amsterdam. I have read this whole entire thread. I didn't even know there were such things as beverage packages!

My DH and I aren't drinkers, so I'm not sure if a package would be good for us. So, let me ask this: What if any beverages are simply included in the price of the cruise? Is water served at meals or do you have to buy bottled water? We drink a couple of cups of decaf at breakfast and pretty much just water otherwise (boring, I know :-) ) I am such a travel/cruise novice, that I don't even know what questions to ask. Advice? Help? and Thanks

Wow! How wonderful to book your first cruise. It would help if you would tell us what ship/cruise line you will be sailing on as there are some differences (or so I have been told). Folks that have experience on that ship/cruiseline can give you more specific answers. We have only done Royal Caribbean so that is all I can tell you my experience on. Usually you can get water free anywhere onboard. You can usually get coffee (plain...not specialty) (regular or decaf) most anytime of day for free. At breakfast there is usually a couple types of juices offered for free. At lunch in the buffet you usually can get water, ice tea, or lemonade for free (in addition to coffee). In the dining room you can usually get water, ice, cofee (again...not specialty) for free at lunch or dinner.

Hello, "banby" (fellow midwesterner)!

Welcome to CruiseCritic and to the potentially addictive practice called CRUISING.

Chances are that you and your husband will enjoy yourself immensely!

I am going to guess that you will be on the Celebrity Constellation, traveling from Amsterdam to Germany, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Estonia, and Denmark. Sounds like a great itinerary!

In replying to you, I am going to use the abbreviation, "NEC," meaning "No Extra Charge." Some people like to use the word, "free," but nothing is truly "free," because you pay for everything as part of your cruise fare (or via a surcharge). So I use "NEC" to refer to things that will not appear with a monetary charge on your account, at the end of the cruise.

At ALL meals, in ALL dining venues, you are always 100% permitted to drink tap water (NEC). [Often it is referred to as "regular" water.] You never have to buy bottled water. I have never had a bad-tasting ounce of tap water on any of my eight cruises.

Based on what you stated about your drinking habits, I would say that you definitely do not need a beverage package. (You could think about buying one if you ever become more "adventurous" about what you choose to drink.)

I realize that my opening post on this thread is very long and perhaps a bit overwhelming to a newcomer like yourself, but I think that you overlooked the following information about the beverages that will be available to you at "NEC" (no extra charge):

[THESE BEVERAGES CAN BE FOUND AT THE BUFFET RESTAURANT (SELF-DISPENSED) ... AND IN RESTAURANTS/DINING ROOMS (SERVED FOR NO EXTRA CHARGE) ... BUT ARE NOT NECESSARILY AVAILABLE ALL DAY (I.E., SOME ONLY FOR BREAKFAST):]

Water (tap)

Ice Tea

Tea (hot, self-made with a teabag)

Coffee (regular or decaffeinated)

Milk (whole or skim)

Lemonade

Fruit Punch

Juices (some of these are available in the main dining room, but not at the buffet):

Orange, Pineapple, Grapefruit, Prune, Apple, Tomato, V-8

[if I recall correctly, these are available (NEC) only at the AquaSpa Cafe:]

Passaguava (Passionfruit/Guava) Juice

Cranberry Juice

Grape Juice

Feel free to ask more questions, "banby," on this thread and others, as they occur to you. In fact, you can start new threads yourself, if you wish. Relax and don't worry ... You have plenty of time between now and June.

PS: I just realized that the list, above, is missing "hot chocolate," one form of which you can make for yourself -- using high-quality chocolate powder from a packet -- at the buffet restaurant.

Two different Celebrity call center agents advised us that the drinks package could only be purchased for the full duration of our sailing (it is a 7 night cruise). It can be purchased onboard - up to 2 days before the last night, but you will be charged for the full seven days!

Very confusing... Has anyone actually purchased it onboard for less than the full duration of the cruise?

* Packages are sold on a per cruise basis, are not sold on a per day or any other basis, and no refunds will be issued for unused amounts. Packages may not be shared, and do not include beverages sold in gift shops, mini-bar or room service. Ordered packages may be modified up to four days prior to sailing by canceling and reordering the package. Cancellations or refunds will not be issued onboard the vessel after embarkation day. Availability of beverage packages varies by ship.

• The fountain soda, bottled water, and all other all-inclusive packages must be purchased for the duration of the cruise (ex: 7-night cruise = 7-night purchase).

• Beverage packages can be pre-purchased up to 4-days prior to cruising and are also available for purchase onboard.

• Cancellations up until 4-days prior to sailing will be refunded to the original form of payment.

• Cancellations inside 4-days of sailing will be refunded to the guest’s onboard (SeaPass) account.

• 15% gratuities are included in the purchase price of each package and are reflected in the pricing.

• At a future date, “unbundled” pricing will be published to reflect the separate cost of each package and its gratuities.

This will provide guests with a clearer understanding of pricing. Gratuities will remain pre-paid at time of purchase.

• The Taste of Vineyard Wine Packages (except for the “Build Your Own” Wine Package) are not available on Celebrity Solstice® Class ships.

• For Customer Service, please contact: 800.722.5941 (Select Option 2)

Wow what a great site. Anyway, I was just wondering if a package can be upgraded once on board. I was thinking of buying a classic package and my husband a premium. If I decide that I would prefer a premium package after seeing what my husband is able to get would I be able to upgrade during the cruise?

Thanks

Lynn

Hello, "topcruiser16" / Lynn.

There is language at the Celebrity site that indicates the possibility of canceling a package on Embarkation Day only. It seems to me that, having canceled one package, you should be able to simply turn around and purchase a different one. I would think that Celebrity would be happy to see you wanting to upgrade your package! What I don't know, however, is whether or not they would let you do that after Embarkation Day.

Good luck.

I'm wondering if anyone knows which package would cover N/A beer ex. O'Doul's??

Thanks!

Hello, "cruiseduet."

That's a tough question to answer, because Celebrity does not make it clear (at their site) whether non-alcoholic beer is covered under either non-alcoholic package.

According to published bar menus, there should be two such beers available:

O'Doul's, which costs $5

Buckler's, which costs $6

Here are the package descriptions from the "X" site. See if you can figure out which one (if any, other than the Premium [Alcoholic] Package] would cover O'Doul's and/or Buckler's:

Classic Non-Alcoholic Package: In addition to enjoying your favorite Coca Cola can and fountain sodas selections (such as Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, Fanta Orange, and Coke Zero), enjoy fresh squeezed and bottled juices, Premium Coffees and Teas, and Non-Premium Bottled Water.

Premium Non-Alcoholic Package: [Adds] Premium Bottled Water (from Evian, Perrier and San Pellegrino), Specialty Coffees and Teas, Non-Alcoholic Frozen Drinks, Smoothies, Red Bull Energy Drink, and Specialty Waters from Vitamin Water.

Classic [alcoholic] Package: [Adds] all Beers up to $5 per serving, and [adds] spirits, cocktails, and wines by the glass up to $8 per serving.

Friends,

There has been a bit of a debate (on at least a couple of threads) about a certain aspect of purchasing beverage packages once on board a Celebrity ship.

--- Some CrCr members relay the word, from "X" phone agents, that on a ship, one must pay "full price" for a package, even if it is purchased after Embarkation Day. [in other words, on a one-week cruise, if purchasing on Day 3, one must pay the same amount as if one had purchased on Embarkation Day (Day 1).]

--- Other CrCr members, relying on wording found at the "X" site, believe that a passenger does NOT have to pay "full price" for a partial-cruise beverage package. For example, they believe that a Day-3 purchase (on a seven-day cruise) would cost 5 times the price-per-day figure, instead of 7 times the price-per-day figure.

I am happy to report that we have confirmation -- from a recent passenger -- that the LATTER is true (partial cost for partial cruise). Please refer to post numbers 12, 14, and 15 in the following thread:

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1260923

Now, I think that I should add a clarification/speculation, which still remains to be confirmed or denied ...

It may be possible that one can VOLUNTARILY pay the full seven-day price on Day 3 and ask to have canceled the individual charges for all beverages obtained up until the time of package purchase (for example, if one can see that doing this would be financially beneficial).

Wow! How wonderful to book your first cruise. It would help if you would tell us what ship/cruise line you will be sailing on as there are some differences (or so I have been told).

Sorry. We are going on the Celebrity Constellation leaving from Amsterdam and sailing to several N. European ports. Any and all tips for any aspect of cruising for the first time is very appreciated.

PS: I just realized that the list, above, is missing "hot chocolate," one form of which you can make for yourself -- using high-quality chocolate powder from a packet -- at the buffet restaurant.

.

Thank you for your reply. That information helps a lot. My husband occasionally has a beer and very occasionally I will drink a margarita, a glass of sangria or something else mild, but certainly never on a daily basis....hardly on a monthly basis, so I will have to consider what will be best during the cruise. I'm sure I'll have a lot of questions, and I thank you so much for you willingness to answer them.

I recently emailed celeb cust. service ... with the following

QUESTION:

Please explain the difference between Specialty coffee and premium coffee in the prepaid drink plans.

Also, are frozen drinks such as a pina colada included in the classic package?

REPLY:

Thank you for your email.

Premium coffee refers to any coffee beyond your standard espresso. This includes Cappuccino, Latte, Mocha and Frozen Coffee drinks. Specialty coffees have fruit, nuts, cookies, etc.. as additional ingredients.

Frozen drinks are included in the Classic Alcohol Package as long as they are $8.00 or under. For your convenience, we have included some of the bar menus in the attachment. *Please note that prices are subject to change at any time without notice.

thank you for choosing Celebrity Cruises.

*************

Also included with the reply from celeb was 6 different bar menus listing various prices and drinks ... many of which are listed here in one form or another. She did include the MARTINI bar menu ... NONE of the martini's on the menu were included in the classic package and would require the PREMIUM package ...( I believe the cheapest martini was 10 dollars)

not sure if this helps anyone out but I was happy to have this info...

I've slogged through all 10 pages of this thread, done about a dozen searches, and hunted the X website, but I can't find anything that explains how the wine packages work in terms of how many bottles of wine are covered by the quoted price.

Does anyone know?
