Looking for a hotel near Heathrow airport

Recommended Posts

As far as I'm aware no hotels close to heathrow have free shuttles. You will need to use the Hotel Hoppa @ £4pp each way. Or if you're lucky, you could you the local bus service which circles Heathrow and is free, but not all hotels are near a bus stop.

Looking for a hotel near Heathrow airport that offers free shuttle service back and forth. We want to come in one day earlier and then go back to the airport and take Princess Transfers to Southhampton.

There aren’t any hotels with their own shuttle per se to LHR' date=' except I believe the Hilton connected to Term. 4 has one from the other terminals. What you have is the aforementioned Hotel Hoppa, and the city buses that pass via LHR which are free within a set radius. More info on the LHR website: http://www.heathrowairport.com/portal/page/Heathrow%5EGeneral%5ETo+and+from+Heathrow%5EBuses+and+coaches%5ELocal+bus/010d2ed4f4599110VgnVCM10000036821c0a____/448c6a4c7f1b0010VgnVCM200000357e120a____/

I personally stayed at the Jurys Inn near Terminal 4 a couple of years ago, and definitely recommend it: http://heathrowhotels.jurysinns.com/

That being said, I believe Princess offers a transfer from Victoria Station, so there's no real need to stay near LHR. Of course, if it were me (and hopefully will be in a few months!), I'd be staying in town and taking the train down to Southampton from Waterloo.

In addition to the Hilton (which is at Terminal 4), there are two other on-airport hotels: the Sofitel (at Terminal 5) and the Yotel (at Terminal 4).

The only conventional hotel shuttle at Heathrow, AFAIK, is run by the Hilton and operates between the Hilton and Terminal 5 only.

If you decide to stay at any of these hotels, you'll want to check whether the Princess transfer operates from the respective terminal or whether you have to go to another terminal to be met.

If you are arriving at Heathrow in the morning of the day before your cruise, you might be better off going into central London and then going to Southampton from there. Doing what you're thinking about is actually replete with lots of complications.

Since last week there are now two Hilton's at Heathrow.

The "old one" is at Terminal 4 the new one is called Hilton Terminal 5 which isn't at Terminal 5 but a short Hoppa Bus ride (7 GBP return) away.

Given this new Hilton hotel, not sure if the Hilton at Terminal 4 will continue to run its own shuttle to Terminal 5.

You can use the local buses around the airport free of charge which gives you access to many similar hotels free of charge from Terminals 1,,3 and 5 including the Arora International, Sheraton Skyline, Reniassance, Radisson Edwardian and Marriott Heathrow.

Good point - we will have to see.

Worth noting, though, that the local buses aren't really suitable for people with luggage, especially cruise luggage. It's also worth knowing the boundaries of the free travel zone and whether your hotel is within it, or close enough to it to be practicable. (Otherwise, it's a standard TfL bus fare.)

Do any of these hotels have restaurants ???

The Jurys Inn does - ate supper there - not bad for a hotel restaurant.

As stated however' date=' you're not necessarily greatly simplifying your life by staying at LHR. Going into London and taking the Princess transfer from there is probably just as easy.[/color']

Assuming that you (a) do not want to use the local buses; and (b) do not want to run the gamut of the taxi rank:

Terminal 4 to Sofitel Terminal 5

  • Take the lift (elevator) down to the Heathrow Express/Connect station.
  • Take the Heathrow Connect/shuttle train from the station for Terminal 4 to the station for Terminals 1, 2 and 3 (this generally departs once every 15 minutes).
  • Change there for the Heathrow Express train from the T123 station to the station for Terminal 5 (again, this generally departs once every 15 minutes).
  • Take the lift up to departures/check-in level.
  • Walk along the walkway to the Sofitel, which is in an immediately adjacent building.

Sofitel Terminal 5 to Terminal 3

  • Walk along the walkway from the hotel to the departures/check-in level of Terminal 5.
  • Take the lift down to the Heathrow Express station.
  • Take the Heathrow Express train from the T5 station to the T123 station (generally this departs once every 15 minutes).
  • Take the lift up to the underground walkway/tunnel system.
  • Walk to Terminal 3 - there are travelators (moving walkways) to help with this.

Of course, you could get a taxi. You might get snarled at for a short trip when the cabbie's been waiting in the feeder park for possibly 2-3 hours waiting for a lucrative trip into town; but the reality is that the cabbie will be able to go straight back to the terminal to pick up another fare without having to back to the feeder park because taking you on either of these journeys should entitle him to do so.

We are looking for a Heathrow hotel to stay for two days after our Infinity cruise that ends May 24, 2013. We want to take a tour to Stonehendge, Salisbury and Bath from that hotel. Any suggestions on hotel (four star) and tour?

Is your cruise to/from Southampton?

A new service by an established operator started this year, offering ship to hotel sightseeing coach transfers. Dedicated to passengers from a single cruise ship, they go via Salisbury/Stonehenge/Windsor or Stonehenge/Bath/Windsor, on to hotels in Heathrow & central London. Priced from £55.

Early reports have been very favourable.

Only a few Heathrow hotels are included, but if yours isn't amongst them the hotel hoppa will get you from a nominated hotel to your hotel.

Alternatively here's some tours from central London, I don't know whether they pick up from around Heathrow.

For a two night stay, Heathrow is pretty bleak even if you have a nice hotel. Instead, consider a central London hotel?

John,

Thanks, our cruise ends at Harwich in East Anglia.

I would look for a good, moderately priced hotel on the outskirts and pay for a taxi. The Hoppa bus cost around £4 each so a taxi for two would be about the same and a lot more convenient.

Unfortunately Harwich-Heathrow is not an easy journey. I rate most ship-sponsored transfers poor value, but it's well worth considering on this route.

The alternatives are

- a private transfer (about £150?)

- or a complicated cross-country route involving two trains, a taxi hop and a Nat Express coach. Not sure anyone would want this option.

- or train from quayside to central London's Liverpool Street station, then cross central London for various options to Heathrow. This is what many cruisers do.

But even more so than for a Southampton transfer, do give consideration to a central London hotel, it's a natural break in your journey, convenient to the sights, convenient to departure points for coach tours or trains for a day out.

JB :)
