chuckaroney Posted July 18, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 18, 2018 We will be sailing on the Norwegian Jade's trans-Atlantic voyage in Sept and understand that visiting a swimming pool, heated my mineral waters, is a lovely thing to do in Reykjavik. Which pools are closest to the dock and./or most accessible by public transportation from the dock? Thank you!!

Which pools are closest to the dock and./or most accessible by public transportation from the dock? Thank you!! Every town and village in Iceland has at least one pool or multiple pools, swimming its a a huge social event in the country, everyone of every age does it.. The local pools are just that, local swimming pools like you would go to in the US but the water is naturally heated from the earth with the minerals in it naturally. If you go to the local pools you will not encounter many tourists. The blue lagoon is an option but is very touristy, we have been to iceland 5 times and it is one our favorite places on earth, we did the blue lagoon the first time and were glad we did it but said we would never go back, although we did on our last trip because we were with family that had never been. Not sure how much time you have but if you are doing the golden circle you may be able to arrange a side trip to the "secret lagoon" or to one of the spas along the way. Lastly please be advised that you will be required to shower without your bathing suit before entering any of the pools and they are very very strict about this. Sauer-kraut Posted July 18, 2018 #5 Share Posted July 18, 2018 This would be an excellent question to post on the Northern Europe board in the PORTS OF CALL boards for Europe. Lots of wonderful information on Iceland there.
chuckaroney Posted July 19, 2018 Author #6 Share Posted July 19, 2018 Thank you all for your help. We realize that there are many wonderful pool complexes, particularly Vesturbaejarlaug and Sundhollin but are not certain how far they might be from where Norwegian docks or if they are easily accessible - by local transportation or taxi. If anyone knows this, we would bet most grateful.

FYI Iceland is one of the most expensive places in the world ,, there is not a lot of public transport and taxis are very costly. Make sure when you put the pool names in you have the spelling correct , there is a funny story about one miss placed letter and the guy wound up a day from where he wanted to go, he has become a national name lol.
