Distilled Water for CPAP in Barcelona

April 2018: We found Auga Destilada (Spanish) / Aigua Destillada (Catalan) at Carrefour (Walmart/Target, but better) in the AUTOMOTIVE section. Our hotel was across the street from the Glories Mall in the Sant Marti section of Barcelona. All non-grocery departments were on the second floor. No water was located in the infant/baby or small appliance departments. The price was 1.70 euros for a 2 liter (0.5 gal) square plastic bottle. Also, stop in for other forgotten or last minute items.

Contact your cruiseline...they will supply distilled water and an extension cord for use with your CPAP machine...no need to lug it on yourself.

I suspect they may have been looking for it for use in their hotel room.

We have not had to purchase distilled water on shore and schlep it back to out rooms. We travel with Viking cruise lines. Set this up before your trip as part of your special needs. Viking's real test will be our 2019 Jan 3 World Cruise for 128 days. We hope they meet this test of fine service.

For a pre-cruise stay in Abu Dhabi, we found it, finally, at gas stations. Not at pharmacies, not at grocery stores, not at convenience stores. So the factoid is: around the world, if all else fails, check where auto batteries are serviced.

Also have CPAP and my last three cruises I sailed Celebrity and contacted them before the cruise. Gallon of distilled water and extension cord were in the room upon our arrival.

Even if you schlep the first gallon onboard your World Cruise, and customer service says that bottled distilled water is not available, in most cases, a friendly acquaintance with your cabin steward should reveal that he/she has a friend that works in engineering, and that during sea days, they can take your water jug down to the engine room for refilling directly from the evaporator; pure distilled water, less than 1ppm total solids. A little gratuity for the engineer involved may help as well. Particularly on a long cruise like this, most of the water onboard will be from distillers, so even using tap water (though you may want to get water from ice melt, room service or the buffet as this will have the chlorine filtered out), or putting the tap water through a Brita type water filter pitcher/bottle will produce near distilled water for your CPAP.

  • 2 months later...

On September 18 we are taking the Viking Eastern Seaboard Cruise from Montreal to New York. We are also on the Viking World Cruise on January 3.

I was wondering if anyone on the Viking Eastern Seaboard Cruise is also on the World Cruise. It would be fun to meet on board the September cruise,
