Envelope21 Posted September 20, 2017 #1 Share Posted September 20, 2017 Can anyone tell me which news channels are carried on NCL ships?
Rare mking8288 Posted September 20, 2017 #2 Share Posted September 20, 2017 This was from the Breakaway - lineup is pretty much unchanged & same across the fleet. https://www.dropbox.com/s/tunqs81br9fcyhf/IMG20150322_2130%20%281024x768%29.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/6il79yeo07nwtse/IMG20150322_2128%20%281024x768%29.jpg?dl=
newmexicoNita Posted September 20, 2017 #3 Share Posted September 20, 2017 It pretty much depends on what and who they contract with, but you can be relatively sure you will get Fox and MSNBC. After that it is anyone's guess. There will be plenty to enjoy whatever news you are used to watching. What is often missing is decent sports channels. Cafedumonde Posted September 20, 2017 #4 Share Posted September 20, 2017 Love that NCL does not have CNN. Too bad Carnival does.

Poipu04 Posted September 20, 2017 #6 Share Posted September 20, 2017 We had BBC, CNBC and SkyNews on the Jade from Southampton. People who needed info. about the hurricane in FL were very upset that there was hardly any coverage.
Rare mking8288 Posted September 20, 2017 #7 Share Posted September 20, 2017 (edited) CNN Int'l was one of the news channel offered 10 years ago (we're on the Star doing Mexico Rivera) and it was discontinued while en route ... while there're negative news coverage about crime, safety & tourism, etc. about the region  (can't say if there was a direct correlation whatsoever). For better or worst, I will take Skynews coverage over Fox, biases aside for what's shown. Weather channel used to be available in those days as well, old-timers might recalled & I believed it was briefly "enabled" or added recently during Harvey/Irma. All these, as I recalled, from previous discussions, had to do with licensing fees for coverage to NCL as cruiselines do need to paid for access. We travel light even when sailing out of home port but to pickup independent news - one can always bring along a compact, digital multi-band SW radio ... to pickup a good AM signal over the horizon at ultra long distance in addition to and/or in lieu of going to satellite internet or local cellular signal while in foreign ports. For storm coverage, it's been hard for some of the hard hit islands with nearly total power outage & almost no way for communications to get out. Amateur (ham) radio stations had been struggling too - to relay & get the words out - as many had taken their antennas & transmitters offline to protect them and need time to setup for emergency broadcast, once the storm passed & find ways to raise their signals ... or hit undamaged repeaters at nearby/islands. don't-use-real-name Posted September 20, 2017 #8 Share Posted September 20, 2017 Don't expect a lot on sports - what is there is mostly European Soccer. Of course YMMV by cruise ship and cruise line - so find a way to enjoy the respite from the TV.
