Dinner Suggestions in New Orleans LA?

We are heading out on Triumph on August 21, and will stay in NOLA the night before. We want to have a nice seafood/cajun style dinner the night before. We will be near the warehouse district/riverwalk area. Is there any suggestions on what restaurants that you enjoyed?

We like spicy, music, drinks, exotic (alligator/frog legs), and just having a great time.

How much do you want to spend pp?

Brennans is great but pricey.

Johnny's Po-Boys is great and not expensive. They served the best gumbo I've ever eaten, and the Po-Boy was loaded with oysters. Acme Oyster Bar is our choice for dinner. Both are in the French Quarter.

The Red Fish Grill is in the French Quarter but walking distance from the Warehouse district.

We loved the food there and it didn't break the bank like some other Brennan restaurants do.

We liked Mulate's so much that we ate there twice during our stay years ago. We haven't been there in a while. They were right across from the riverwalk. Prices were reasonable, good service, good food, plus music and dancing! I highly recommend the crab stuffed mushroom appetizer.

I would say maybe $15-$17 per person, if it is worth it.

We have been saving for this vacation and we are only going out of this port to also see New Orleans. Or else we would have taking a 4 hour drive to Galv. TX, since we are in San Antonio.

Acme Oyster House

Acme OYster House is really good and moderately priced. You can look a lot of these restaurants up on the internet and even get menus.

check the Gulf Coast Departures board - there is quite a bit of info there on NOLA. My favorite is Galatoire's, very much the feel of 'old New Orleans', though it is pricey. Brennan's is great also. and be sure to go to Cafe Du Monde for Beignets!

I would think about any restaurant owned by Iron Chef contender John Besh would be great. Just google his name and he has sight with all his places on it.

I think any of the Besh restaurants, Galatoires (my personal favorite), Emeril's and others in that status are way out of the price range.

Since you are driving in (I assume), you might want to stop off in Henderson or Breaux Bridge, LA on the way in? Just East of Lafayette. That is more Cajun. New Orleans will tend to be more Creole.

Is Galatories open? We were in NO this past January and it was closed.

Maspero's is always a good stand-by. It's across from Jax Brewery. They have huge sammie's, but not really exotic or Cajun. Heh, after a night in the French Quarter the Lucky Dogs are as good as a filet. Try one with the works and chipolte Tabasco sauce. Yummy! Just be sure to eat it on the way back to your room. Trust me!:cool:

My wifes family is from New Orleans. One of our favorite special places is Commanders Palace in the Garden District. We love going there.

Yes, Galatoires's is open! So is Galatorie's Bistro in Baton Rouge. Were you there on a Monday? They are closed on Monday (in New Orleans). Actually, they did also close early on a Sunday or two last January when the Saints were in the playoffs on the road to the Superbowl! Both of those events are unusual.

Galatoire's closed for a bit last August because things were so slow, but they are OPEN.

Lucky Dogs are outstanding and especially appreciated with a belly full of alcohol. Those gut bombs are great for what ails you!

I recommend Mulate's as well. They are authentic Cajun (rather than Creole) food. Excellent Seafood Gumbo and Shrimp Poboys.

They are located in the warehosue district, right across form the riverwalk and convention center.

we are from tx and have lots of family there so we sail out of galveston alot. for some time now it has been much cheaper to go out of new orleans rather than galveston, so part of your vacation if probably being paid for by what you are saving going out of galveston.

the trolley's is a good way to see the city in new orleans. our next trip is a week on the river walk in san antonio. it is a toss up if i like cruising or san antonio best.

If you're going with your husband or boyfriend I would suggest the Court of Two Sisters, but it will be more than 15-17 per person (more like $25-30) Very romantic and very good food. Stay away from Emeril's over priced and extremely rushed. Mulate's is a good choice for the price and what you appear to be looking for.

I work downtown San Antonio by the Riverwalk. You are right. We always travel out of Galv TX but its cheaper for our family to drive to NOLA and pay for a hotel and leave out of there. Back when we booked the cruise, we took into account, gas/food/hotel (1 night) against leaving out of Galv. and found it was the same price.

We can afford more, but I just cant justify paying $20 for a 5 yr old girl who probably wont eat anything other than the bread/water.

John Besh's restaurant Luke was very very good.

(going to commit sacrelige, but I don't care for Deanie's fried seafood.... no flavor!)

The Red Fish Grill is by far my favorite! I live in Louisiana, and the waitstaff there is AWESOME!
