New to Norwegian Gem

Hi, looking forward to our cruise on Norwegian Gem on 7th Oct. Haven't sailed on her before. Want to see The Colours of the Fall, not sure if leaves are turning yet in America? Can we use US dollars in Canada?

Peak in Central Park is usually around early Nov.

Canadian dollars are what should be used in Canada. One would guess that places around the port are used to US dollars but I would go with Canadian dollars.

When we sailed on Gem's RT to Quebec City several years back, I don't recall us using anything but US dollars or our credit card.

We just returned home from a Transatlantic Cruise that stopped in two Canadian ports - the people in those ports told us to use our credit cards for purchases because the currency conversion would be to our advantage. As an example, I went to an ATM and withdrew 100 Canadian, which turned out to be 85 USD that was taken from our account. We use a debit card that does not charge ATM fees or foreign transaction fees. The credit card we used at also did not charge a foreign transaction fee.

You could possibly be a bit late for some of the leaves, it depends if it's on time, late etc but you will see some lovely colours even next week.

Want to go out of the cities and see the countryside. Don't want to be herded around on a large coach excursion, but would like to share a smaller van/car particularly in Halifax Oct 9th Companies won't book just two people, so any ideas how we can link up with anyone else?

We rented a car in both Halifax and St John, which got us ahead of most of the large bus tours and allowed us to go at our own pace, which was really nice. I booked with Enterprise in Halifax (they picked us up and dropped us off at the port) and I think we booked with Avis in St John (the rental office is about a block from port).

Edited to add: we were also there this time of year, and the trees were just starting to turn. I think if we'd gone a week or two later we would've been at peak.
