Solo Cruiser's Roll Call

My first time cruising (although I've been on many overnight+ ferries in Europe). A couple of days ago I booked a couple of solo cruises almost back-to-back (to give it a fair chance if one isn't too great).

The first is Norwegian Sun, southern Caribbean Nov 28 from Miami.

After one night ashore in Miami, the second trip is Norwegian Escape, Western Caribbean Dec 9.

Happy to meet up with other solo travellers on either ship!

Robert

Robert go to the solo meeting the first night for both cruises on the Escape it will be in a public bar but going forward it will be in the solo lounge. If you are in the studio cabins you will have access all the time but if

not you will need to know how to get in for subsequent solo meetings

Nice...look's like you had a blast! Are those like "Dueling Piano's"? Reminds me of "Howl At The Moon" on the NCL Breakaway....

Yes , Dueling Pianos , they put on a good show :) I will be back on board the Oosterdam December 2nd 2017 ,cruising to Hawaii :)

Hi Everyone,

I'm Dave and will be on the Royal for a 5 day Caribbean out of FFL on Nov. 25th. This will be my 5th cruise but my first "Solo". I came across a great deal for a balcony and could not pass it up. My wife is a manager in retail and this is the start of the xmas season sales and she could not take the time off. I could not get anyone else to take some time off to do this cruise.

I myself just retired in July after 40 years as a Mechanic, Fleet Supervisor, Fire Equipment Mechanic ("We might not be the Pride, but without us the Pride don't ride") and I am making up for missed vacations. I do enjoy my Scotch and every now and then a cigar.

I am looking forward to doing this cruise and meeting new people along the way. My wife says I can talk to anybody about anything.

I have been involved with the Roll Call and helping with a slot pull the first sea day along with a M&G. I may be suggesting a Cabin Crawl at the M&G. I have not been on a Royal class ship and would like to see what other cabin layouts are like.

Happy Trails

Well I took the plunge and just booked my first solo cruise. Carnival was practically giving away some of their cruises and I couldn't pass up the chance to cruise for $231. These were casino offers so if you are a VIPF member look under my offers in your profile. There are still lots of cruises left for November and I believe 2 for December. I usually cruise with friends but no one could go as we did just get back from The Breeze on 10/1. I have one week of vacation that I have to use before 12/31 so why not use it doing something that I love.

I will be on the Sensation 11/25-30. I am platinum with Carnival as I have cruised a lot with them but haven't done an older ship in a very long time. I hope I enjoy it but it is a cruise and how bad can that be?? I would rather be cruising than sitting at a desk so I'm psyched. I see that Carnival has a singles get together the first night so I will definitely be attending. I am pretty shy when it comes to meeting people but I decided that I need to change that and I think the drink package will help (lol).

So are there any tips from you experienced solo cruisers that you can give a virgin solo cruiser?

I should have mentioned that I did look at the roll call but there are only 9 people including myself on it. There is a guy cruising solo on it but so far he hasn't responded to any of my posts. I am a seasoned cruiser and this is the deadest roll call ever!! I have made some life long friends from past roll calls and I was hoping that this one would be no different but I have a feeling that won't happen.

I have cruised Solo on Carnival a few times and have switched over to Norwegian which I find more “Solo friendly “. By all means, go to the Solo meet & greet on the first night but don’t have high expectations since my experience is they’re poorly attended and poorly organized (actually not organized at all). Carnival usually seats solo travellers at a large table in the MDR (but not always). If you don’t like your table assignment at dinner get it changed to the Solo table (if they have one).

You are right about NCL being more solo friendly as I love their studio cabins and the studio lounge. A friend and I did the Epic on a Med cruise and we each had a studio cabin. That cabin was only $499 for a 7 day cruise the cheapest cabin I ever had (until now) but the airfare to Barcelona was $1200. So there went my cheap cruise. We did enjoy the lounge and we wound up doing things with several other single/solo people.

Thank you for the information on Carnival's solo meet and greet. I think I will call and see if there is a solo dining table as I am pretty sure they do have them. The only thing I hate to do by myself is eat so being at a table of other solo people would be nice.
