X1HYCB Posted August 19, 2017 #1 Share Posted August 19, 2017 Monterey is one of the ports of Ruby Princess in October 2017. I have not seen any posts on this lovely place.
CruiserBruce Posted August 19, 2017 #2 Share Posted August 19, 2017 There is a small number of threads on Monterey, because it gets a small number of ship visits. A search finds these: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2410672&highlight=Monterey http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2466113&highlight=Monterey http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2386555&highlight=Monterey plus a few others. You will see the Aquarium gets a lot of mentions...it is truly one of the best in the world. Monterey is a tender port. Do you have specific questions? jamiski Posted August 24, 2017 #3 Share Posted August 24, 2017 Do you have specific questions? Ooo, *Hand up* I do! :) We will be there in early Oct on the Star. We have a car rented for the day and were planning on going down to Big Sur State Park and/or Pfeiffer Beach? (which I think I read is not actually part of the State Park and requires admission fees?). I saw there are lot of closures and work going on due to last winter's storm damage, any insider knowledge or suggestions?
CruiserBruce Posted August 24, 2017 #4 Share Posted August 24, 2017 Double check on the State Parks website, but pretty sure that area is closed off, and won't likely be open by the time of your cruise. You can also check the Caltrans website.
jamiski Posted August 26, 2017 #5 Share Posted August 26, 2017 Thanks! I'll check Caltrans. We mostly just want to go on a scenic drive, do some easy hiking and see a beach or two. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Kartgv Posted August 28, 2017 #6 Share Posted August 28, 2017 Visit the TripAdvisor California Travel Forums here: https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowForum-g28926-i29-California.html On the right side of the opening page, there is a list of FAQ. At least 3 of them near the top address the road closures near Big Sur. Lots of very good information there, so you shouldn't have any unpleasant surprises.
